Warrior Beat: Warriors arrive in Fresno

OK, the Red Mile really isn't a mile and the path earned its nickname because of the sea of Fresno fans. On game day, this simple path is quite impressive. / Photo by Stephen Tsai

FRESNO, CALIF. >> After staying overnight in Fremont and then practicing today in Gilroy, the Warriors finally arrived in Fresno this afternoon.

They headed straight to meetings.

The ESPN2 crew also met with the UH coaches.

Meanwhile, we took a quick trip to the university area. The stadium, of course, is not menacing without the red-clad hecklers.

Back in the day, this area contained bone-shaped “tombstones” of Fresno opponents. Alas, the “boneyard” is no more.
The wall remains impressive.

Go Warriors! Hope to see the whole bag of trick plays to keep their defense off balance! We need to run and shoot them with at least 5 TD’s to have a chance for the upset!

  4. Andrew October 26, 2018 3:50 pm

Their stadium seems to have much more of a college football feel and look to it.

My buddies are doing a Hawaii tailgate at Fresno tomorrow, text me if you want to join, 415-324-0585.

Hope not, ye of waning faith, but believe it true!
The spoils shall go to the Warriors!

One of my favorite commercials of all time is the one where the guy bring quinoa to a tailgate party because his wife is into health food.

    Let’s go bows
    Let’s offense

I think this is how it is with a young team and a (mostly) young staff. Up and down (and side to side as well, geez) the whole “shebang”. The hit the “wall” physically and mentally, you can see it on video. Reluctant to make contact offensively and especially defensively. Coaches struggling with some issues as well. Just do your best. Solve everything by UNLV.

  11. suckkabooya October 27, 2018 12:13 am

I should clarify. Offensively the receivers seemed “reluctant” to catch in traffic (I don’t blame them) and defensively the reluctance was to “collide”. The mental issues seem to be “trust” related. The coaches trying to figure out how to deal with adversity. They can figure it out. I believe it. Step by step. Harder than it looks.

I never hear that song long time. Perfect “good energy” song. We can use some of that right now. Alright, now I’m ready for Fresno. Let’s go! Bring em’ on! Chee hooooo.

    GoWarriors!!!!

  15. cappie the dog October 27, 2018 3:32 am

Why doesn’t Aloha Stadium personnel ever use Scandal’s “The Warrior”?

“And heart to heart you’ll win if you survive, the warrior”

They should play that song as the player come running out of the tunnel.

  16. cappie the dog October 27, 2018 3:37 am

I love it when Dodgers’ closer Kenley Jansen messes up.

He is the guy who took over Brandon League’s spot.

  17. Maddog50 October 27, 2018 5:08 am

Coach Rolovich has this right when he said at the least be a “decent” football team. There are 4 to go needing as many wins as possible. Yep I’m optimistic if we play passionate emotional sound football. They ain’t that good and we ain’t that bad when we play to our ability. The outcome of this game will not be a surprise either way. Play like we did the underdog role is pretty close-play like we can and the prediction will be securely placed where the sun does not shine! GoWarriors!!!!

Does that mean Red Sox are up 3-0?

    Maddog50 –

You are right. All we want to see is the Warriors doing their best, every position, every play, all game. You can’t ask for any thing more. We’ve been underdogs before and won. It’s time to just play the game.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  21. Savich October 27, 2018 8:33 am

4:15 p.m. HT, ESPN2 and 1420 AM radio. Fresno, California.

24.5 + points favored. It will be some feat if they could win.

  22. suckkabooya October 27, 2018 10:03 am

If AP poll had top 30 Utah St. would be 27, San Diego St. 28, Fresno St 29 this week. ESPN power rankings (this week) have Fresno St at 25, Utah St 41, San Diego St 74. As reference Hawaii is 110, Army 55, BYU 68, Navy 102, UNLV is 108 and Rice is dead last at 130.

  23. suckkabooya October 27, 2018 10:52 am

It’s hard to believe but every (even Navy and BYU, maybe not Duquesne though) game could have went either way this year. Little lucky, little unlucky (more lucky this year though) weird. Momentum is (was) the key. If Armstrong-Brown makes that first quarter catch against Army (they were so on their heels). If Augafa doesn’t muff the punt (BYU was on their heels too). And if Coach Rolovich’s strategy were more traditional (I think we would have crushed them) could be undefeated. Understanding how momentum works and how to apply (by maintaining focus at key points to dispirit opponents ) it is something that a young team (and staff) has to learn. Important. Part of a larger process. Be ready to apply everything next year. Marketing as well (momentum here too). They can do it. Let’s Go Warriors!

    1. Fresno’s O line is huge-UH has to outscore them. 2. McDon apparently has problem with depth perception with zones. That’s why he is hesitant to throw into new schemes against the RNS, also lacks some peripheral vision. 3. Going to have to stop relying on “up the middle” like former coach’s schemes. 4. “O” coaching lacks creativity when RNS bogs down, bet their playbook is kinda short. Got to make some changes soon otherwise Musubi Bowl w/ side of chicken katsu in front of TV at home. And if they don’t make it FIRE SOMEONE.

  25. burro sabio October 27, 2018 11:14 am

After practice in Gilroy, the team should have ate a LOT of garlic, just to annoy Fresno during the game.

  26. seewhy October 27, 2018 12:16 pm

Watching the New Mexico vs. Utah State game. New Mexico defense looks as porous as ours. Yikes… 5 – 52 USU at the half.

  27. clyde October 27, 2018 12:40 pm

Sobering reality? Can a Hawaii team that got demolished by a BYU team that just lost to NIU 7-6 rebound and beat a three-touchdown favorite Fresno State team? As the saying goes … that’s why they play the game.

  28. ai-eee-soos October 27, 2018 1:01 pm

    F U BYU !!!

    next loss at boise.

    lol

  29. Old School Dave October 27, 2018 1:22 pm

Yes indeed! NIU sacked BYU’s Wonderboy QB 6 times and intercepted him once. Kaufusi made a few stops, but was not a factor. NIU 7, BYU 6. Anything can happen and that’s why they play the game.

    GO WARRIORS!!

  30. iGrokSpock October 27, 2018 1:27 pm

    Go Warriors! Get chance, ya?

  31. seewhy October 27, 2018 2:08 pm

I predict another blowout with our anemic offense… And I hope out defense can step up and defend the pass. PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG!!

  32. seewhy October 27, 2018 2:08 pm

Like everyone above said, anything can happen. Especially in Fresno.
