Warrior Beat: McDonald eludes sack
Upon further review, quarterback Cole McDonald had a better opening weekend than first thought.
Not only did he account for five touchdowns in his first start in a 43-34 victory over Colorado State, but he also kept perfect his record of never having been sacked in a UH uniform.
McDonald was ruled to have been sacked during the game. But the Warriors appealed, insisting that it was a designed quarterback draw. CSU officials agreed, and changed it to a tackle for loss instead of sack. The corrected game file was sent to UH this morning. Because of procedural things that only people who deal with procedures understand, the change should be finalized this week and reflected in next week’s official NCAA stats.

Firstestestest!
Cole was as close to perfect as you can get. Imagine when all the iterations of this offense are being used by him!
GO WARRIORS!!!
Hey, ST, what about the fake PAT? Doesn’t someone get assessed a pass attempt for that throw attempt?
Great win! Been waiting for our Warriors to put on an exhibition like that for a long time. How did we come out of the game injury wise? Haven’t heard anything about that. Congratulations, boys, on a job well done.
Mojo, I don’t think they keep statistics for PAT’s, other than the point(s) scored.
Hey Mojo! Long time!
Warrior Mojo
It goes down as a failed pass. Doesn’t count in game stats
By the way, Gaudion is not the backup QB
Cole McDonald’s parents’ has a group of 45 family/friends sitting with us at SDSU; come join our group ($35 each) and meet them. Text me 415-324-0585; or email: tomkitaguchi@yahoo.com

Hawaiian Airlines to kokua …
The University of Hawai’i at Manoa today named HawaiianAirlines as the Official Airline of UH Athletics. The exclusive three-year sponsorship agreement broadens a sales partnership announced last year and makes Hawaiian the preferred carrier for the university’s 21 varsity athletic programs when they travel to and from competitions in North America.

Hawaiian Airlines is wonderful and generous but my butt has flown 1.3 million miles on United.
is hawaiian airline a jtb change issue?
On to the Middies-this game will provide those unique challenges that the triple option carries. It not so much the offense but the level of relentless effort that they give on both sides of the ball. Wouldn’t look for a ton of miscues/penalties even though this is their opener. Good news is Tavai will be in the rotation and our youngsters have game experience to build on. Gotta say this after watching replay twice-lotsa good things but Derek Thomas showed up big time motoring to the ball. Very noticeable was overall much better tackling even though there were some misses?-outlook is bright-GoWarriors
Good win for the Warriors.
Navy will pose a whole new set of problems.
Take way the dive. Stay in your lanes, defend the edge. Navy will be disciplined, quick and they do go over head….IMUA!
Did we have any sacks?..I know we had some good hurries but not sure if we sacked any…
I am looking forward to this game more than any since coach Rolovich’s debut. But after the the first quarter of the UCLA game, it seemed pretty clear that the Rainbow Warriors weren’t back to McMackin years strength. But after watching the team perform against CSU at altitude, I am really glad to had season tickets.
13. No sacks recorded by UH. However, CSU had 8 holding penalties called on them (including 1 on a UH kickoff, 1 on a UH punt and 1 on a CSU punt) .
Navy cadets will shock and awe attack.
So UH should choose to receive the kick off to keep them off the field.
One game at a time. Navy produces a whole new set of challenges as everyone has said. However, I think Coach Batoon has a solid game plan. We’ll have Tavai back and a gull full roster to rotate more guys and keep things fresher. As NSF said basically gotta stay on your assignment, stay in your lane, and don’t be like Tom Cruise and go Maverick…LOL Which is easier said then done…especially if you like being aggressive on D.
Mojo…long time no see.
Go get um boys. Now, where is my man friend Koakane and my cuz…Koamahu
Please no let down, NO LETDOWN. Stay focused. Geef um Warriors!

Aranda came up with a great defense vs Navy when he was our DC. I read in a story here that Batoon has had some discussion with Aranda on how his defense worked. Maybe that will work.
ESPN isn’t acknowledging Hawaii in its offensive statistics.
#22 I had similar thoughts about Aranda’s game planning against Navy. Hopefully our defensive coordinator would have reviewed that particular game that was played to understand what Aranda’s game plan to defeat Navy’s triple option attack. I enjoyed watching our offense take it to CSU. This will be an interesting year.
cappie is right. What’s up with the stats and who is going to address it.
Last week was what many called an upset. So many unknowns outsiders, media et al figured that the Warriors could not possibly improve and progress to the point of a 37-7 lead at one point-stunned is a word that comes to mind. I would rather call it setting the record straight. Look for the Warriors under Coach Rolovich to continue to improve in all 3 phases of the game as season progresses. I predict more of the same in coming months and the MW has been put on notice UH is no longer the toss-up or gimme game they have been since entering MW play! GoWarriors!!!!
Batoon said he has faced Navy about three times during his career. He also played against Georgia Tech. Said he had success in defending the triple option but ultimately it’s up to the players to execute the game plan.
Can someone explain the broken point after play with the crazy line up? How is it supposed to work? If it was to be a pass, and obviously not kicking it, why not a QB taking the snap? Loved it and want more of it.
Hawaii football has a chance to make a statement this season.
You can win without selling your soul.
Hawaii just beat a team who built a new stadium.
I think it’s ironic.
C’mon, Aloha Stadium Transit Authority: Give UH a cut.
hiya, Warrior Moj!
glad to see you back!!
Back in Black(uniforms) I hit the sack it’s been to long I’m glad to be back!!
Ac/Dc
Perfect intro song for games
Bumped into Koakane in Aiea a couple of weeks ago…He was with his family and busy being a grandpa. He looked good.
Close down the hatch in the middle. Take down the outriggers on the edges. Swarm the qb keepers. Then defend the missiles. Good test on team discipline. Hoping no Warriors will violate team rules again!…IMUA!
while McDonald did a great job, how about some congrats to the young offensive line. they did a hell of a job, protecting him and opening holes for the run. this line is way better than that of last year and that line had many experienced guys. the defense needs speed at all positions. they will be the weak spot on this team. they should concentrate on speed next year, especially at the defensive backs and linebackers.
I’m sure Mr. Batoon has talked to Mr. Aranda about defending Army and Navy. I think they could repeat. Aranda was a genius!! Also Mr. Tsai, I believe when Utah played Hawaii, Rick Majeurus was the coach. RM always had great players and would have been hard to beat in most cases. Riley Wallace beat Utah I think once or twice when RM was the coach. Have a Nice day and hope the wahine’s recruit well
Another difference maker in the last game that my wife pointed out–no personal foul penalty(s). Cheers to keeping that trend Warriors. GO BOWS!
One more thing, We just gotta outscore Navy and strike quickly and early. May as well apologize now to KN as he was a great QB but never got the chance to show much while at UH. There was another QB ahead of him that was also very good.
Hope we don’t do the haka or ha’a this year. Just concentrate all practices and pre-game prep on defeating the opponent. Seems like doing the haka before a game can create an adrenaline dump during the game also.
