Warrior Beat: Warriors add Moore
After a slight delay, offensive tackle Ernest Moore has joined the Warriors.
Moore needed to complete two summer classes at City College of San Francisco to earn an associate’s degree and finalize his transfer to UH.
Moore has gone through the orientation phase — no-padded practices — and is expected to be cleared for full participation as early as tomorrow. He said he has kept up by studying the playbook and going through tutorial sessions on the run-and-shoot offense.
Moore did not begin to play football until his senior year at Washington High in San Francisco. Since then, Moore has added 55 pounds to his 6-foot-8 frame, and now weighs about 315.
Coach Nick Rolovich said Moore does not have “a lot of football history. But there’s a frame and athleticism that most people would want.”
Plus, Moore is a CCSF alumnus, just like Rolovich. “He’s a Ram,” Rolovich said. “I trust those guys when they coach ’em. I’m getting an honest opinion, and I get an honest assessment if they’re going to be contributors.”
Rolovich acknowledged the junior-college path is not an easy one.
“IF you can survive at City,” Rolovich said, “you can survive anywhere.”
GO WARRIORS !!!
I hope they have the the large size knee braces for the new comer. He is very big. Good recruiting.
His height and weight are impressive. I look forward to seeing him play.
Nice – another OL. Great to have Ernest here. Can’t have enough OL. Being relatively new to organized football, having a position coach like Mark Weber will do wonders for his development.
Welcome, Ernest!
Welcome Ernest! I saw him play basketball as a junior in HS and honestly he was terrible. Obviously things have changed and now he’s a D1 athlete.
Warriors may be the Sleeping Cinderella of the conference about to be awaken.
Welcome addition to the O line. UH needs those big bodies. Their Red Zone O last 3 years was pathetic to say the least! Unlike the 2000’s. We’ll see their play calling come game time-better be decent or the season will be sour cabbage!
Wow gr8 we need OL!!
Anyone know a good psychiatrist? Or too late?
Shrink, for whom? Us, or him?
ST: How do we get rid of a troll? Really bothers the entire board…
Like a zombie cockroach, the troll (insert new name here) just never dies.
Can’t teach big. Welcome Mr. Moore!
That body can add 20 more pounds easy. Especially his backside and legs. Poi and lau lau.
Was watching the Fresno state game from last year, forgot we almost made a comeback. Hopefully the defense can hold teams to under 20 and we’ll be good all season.
Ernest coming out of the gates a little late in fall camp, so maybe he can play in 4 games and still red-shirt.
H-Man: Not sure if Moore is a 3-to-play-2 guy as it appears he graduated from high school in 2015. Stephen will know.
He has three to play two
Tristin Kamaka awarded a scholarship.
Last years Scout Team Award (offense ?) winner.
saw this on another board.
ST: can you confirm
Welcome to the Warriors Mr. Moore!
Nah….I don’t think it’s necessary for Ernie to put on more weight. He will be playing tackle and as a tackle he will be going up against rush ends and outside linebackers. It’s not like at guard or Center where you will be facing 300lbs or two every single play.
Most rush ends are between 240-280. Better to have athletic abilty and quick feet then to have bulk. As a tackle, you will spend a lot of time going one on one in pass protection mode. You will be blocking in space and got to learn to hold off the charging defender…..not plowing into the d line in traffic and bulldozing d linemen.
What Moore needs most is repetition and learning. I suggest he spend a lot of time with Coach Weber learning the finer points of playing tackle and watch films.
Ernie Moore:
best fit is at a “guard” position rather than a tackle
seems to “set-up” high — looking at the pics.
