Rolo wants your input

As the old saying goes, opinions are like belly buttons. Everyone has one. (Well, except for Jeannie, who didn’t have a navel the first few seasons of “I Dream of Jeannie.”)
This time, Nick Rolovich is seeking your input. As part of a challenge, Rolovich asked the Mountain West head coaches to bring gifts representing their school/state to the media summit.
In 2016, Rolovich distributed this to the other coaches:

Last year, Rolo brought this:

And this:

Rolo’s question to the readers: What should he bring to this month’s Mountain West Media Summit?
* * * * *
By the way, while Elvis did not wear blue suede shoes, San Jose State’s Brent Brennan wore these:

And the previous Spartan coach brought bottles from here:

Which produces just the best wine. Ever.

Rolo should take poke & Primo!

  3. haka July 10, 2018 9:50 am

Or maybe he should give them each a lava rock for…ahem…good luck!

  4. NorthShoreFan July 10, 2018 9:56 am

Snow Puffies from Pa’ala Kai Bakery

  5. NorthShoreFan July 10, 2018 9:57 am

Yup, poke from Tamura’s. To make it more tempting, put em on one cracker.

  6. 808WarriorFan July 10, 2018 10:05 am

    #2 … “Haka” … Primo isn’t brewed here …

LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS … !!!!!

  7. haka July 10, 2018 10:09 am

No mattah, it’s still Hawaii’s beer…to us old guys anyway. Shelve da IPA stuff.

  8. burro sabio July 10, 2018 10:10 am

    Rolo should give them charcoal.

From Yesterday: Counselor Boola, could UH “borrow” some of BoolaBoolaU’s endowment?

From Yesterday: Mr. A-House, no forget UH faculty are in a union. We can’t afford to keep the good ones and the raises only help to keep the bad ones around.

  9. haka July 10, 2018 10:11 am

Or substitute with a retro Vili the Warrior bobble head doll!

  10. A-House July 10, 2018 10:20 am

    el burro:

    so true, so true

with a Personnel & Industrial degree, i was encouraged to apply for a “union” job

refused and joined/enlisted in a different “band of brothers” for 4 years.

  11. A-House July 10, 2018 10:23 am

lava rocks? no, it’s the person taking the rocks becomes “bewitched”

how about a kukui nut lei from Walmart? still on sale for $2.99 each?

  12. Inyoface July 10, 2018 10:37 am

    Kaki Mochi

  13. haka July 10, 2018 10:42 am

Okay, in my haste, just forgot a few minor details to my suggestions. Hehehe…

How about a bottle of rum and pineapple from Maui?

Okay, how about a quality dashboard hula girl with a rainbow flower in her long dark hair, coconut top and an “H” logo waist banded green grass skirt that rocks to the potholes! Every coach in America should have one! In fact, every vehicle in the world should have one…..or maybe just me.

  14. PONO July 10, 2018 10:58 am

Bring some maui wowi. Put the coaches on their ass.

  15. H-Man July 10, 2018 11:06 am

I like Snow Puffies, They’re delicious, but perishable. So I suggest stick to the basics. Choco Macnuts or Hawaii Kona coffee.

  16. cappie the dog July 10, 2018 11:08 am

Mikayla Tablit could be the new Michelle Tokoro.

Tokoro was a dominant player for Cal State-Los Angeles.

When Susan Valdez would show up for Iolani games, I presumed that she was recruiting Tokoro, not the shooting guard.

  17. Boolakanaka July 10, 2018 11:21 am

My list: dim sum from Char Hung Sut, cake noodle from Lee Ho Fook, sushi platter from Yanagi, laulau from Young’s fish market and one fafa from Halawa (I bet you dollars to doughnuts he/she will be bigger than most of the players.

  18. BigWave96744 July 10, 2018 11:31 am

A Beaver Weasel Toy for each coach so they can be reminded in this game there is no difference between a Beaver and Weasel

I would say Kona beer but they not local. Malasada’s would be killah.

  22. suckkabooya July 10, 2018 12:22 pm

  23. 808WarriorFan July 10, 2018 12:32 pm

https://twitter.com/AsaAvengers ASA Junior College out of NY recently congratulating signees from this year’s team moving on to 4 year programs and has a 3* OL Malik Messek 6’4 280 as coming to Hawaii. Was this announced earlier or is this a pending sign depending on qualifying. Looks like he had some offers but didn’t sign earlier. A welcome addition if this happens.

  25. A-House July 10, 2018 12:45 pm

we like hot, sticky rice with natto!

one time Masaboy wanted natto and shoyu/sugar sardines for his birthday dinner!

what is unique, non-perishable and inexpensive omiyagae, but totally recognizable to Hawaii?

  26. A-House July 10, 2018 12:46 pm

eye know — cheap rubber slippahs for wack’um on the head!

  27. Nani Vincent July 10, 2018 12:52 pm

Liliha Bakery makes killa CocoPuffs. Now that is local 😁

  28. Nani Vincent July 10, 2018 1:01 pm

Liliha Bakery makes a killa cocoa puffs. Now that’s local 😆

  29. suckkabooya July 10, 2018 1:05 pm

Malik Besseck. His highlights don’t pop your eyes like Alex Dalpe’s does but he does seem quick and agile. Had lots of offers per ESPN’s recruiting page with a 79 grade. I hope its true.

  30. Inyoface July 10, 2018 1:48 pm

June Jones helping Masoli get 300 plus passing yards in nine straight games, a CFL record.

  31. al July 10, 2018 2:02 pm

A case of Maui Brewing company craft beer.
    Atebara’s chips.

  32. Inyoface July 10, 2018 2:03 pm

Do they brew it in Maui or Oregon?

  33. suckkabooya July 10, 2018 2:06 pm

“I Dream of Jeannie”, “Bewitched”, and Primo beer. 70’s retro day. Nice.

  34. A-House July 10, 2018 2:06 pm

sports related — entire Thai soccer team and coach rescued from cave!!!

all seem to be doing well — that’s positive news!!!

  35. suckkabooya July 10, 2018 2:10 pm

Now we just need some “kamaboko” slippers, Kikaida, and Checkers and Pogo references.

  36. manoa mist July 10, 2018 2:57 pm

KONA COFFEE, my crop is sold out but a max crop is coming, if not this year than next,if he wants it I will donate the coffee.

  37. Kev-1 July 10, 2018 2:59 pm

Poi … but since the taste and texture is a hard sell, the next best option would be … POI MALASSADAS

  38. kalua pig July 10, 2018 3:08 pm

just bring big island cookies every year.trust me,they will be happy every time.tradition is best.

  39. H-Man July 10, 2018 3:18 pm

How about WAIALUA coffee from the Old Sugar Mill. Rather expensive, but very good.

  40. turfwar July 10, 2018 3:27 pm

I say bring coupons for free admission to Femme Nu for any visiting team on the Friday nite before game day.

  41. oldtimer808 July 10, 2018 3:57 pm

Mahalo #27 for correcting #24 name spelling error to Besseck and not Messeck. He seems to have some quickness and upper body strength. He was offered by Hawaii in August of 2016.

  42. oldtimer808 July 10, 2018 3:59 pm

MacNuts and pineapples and don’t get too exotic with all the local kine foods.

  43. oldtimer808 July 10, 2018 4:03 pm

I like Alex Dalpe too. No quit in this offensive lineman.

  44. diamonds808 July 10, 2018 4:21 pm

Wow V Sattui – some of the best wine I’ve tasted!
If poke – I know one of the best poke places sold in Vegas (owned by my cousins!) so he can get it fresh there!

Big Island candies are always a hit (maybe try the chocolate covered ika? haha)
Hawaiian Sun juice (cans, not the mix) and spam musubis! 🙂

  45. MauiBoyAlaska July 10, 2018 4:40 pm

Guri Guri from Maui. LV will be hot that time of year.

  46. Nani July 10, 2018 5:47 pm

Maui pineapple or poi malassada’s from Kamehameha Bakery.

  47. UH4eva July 10, 2018 6:44 pm

Rolo should hand out free “live Aloha Play Warrior” bumper stickers

  48. koakane July 10, 2018 7:11 pm

IMHO nothing because UH already has to ante up to much just to be in the league.

  49. cappie the dog July 10, 2018 7:29 pm

    Gabby CDs.

    I’m a horrible art snob.

Gabby Pahinui is as good as anybody who ever recorded music.

It’s the only local music I own.

  50. azwarrior22 July 10, 2018 7:49 pm

    Cecilio & Kapono

  53. Chef ADG July 10, 2018 8:35 pm

Bring Kona coffee over breakfast coach Rolo. Let the opposing coaches, know that Kona coffee will keep them awake at night, on how to figure out, on how to stop Hawaii fly O potent run and shoot offense this season. Go Warriors!! In Rolo, we trust! 🤣

  54. Casual Observer July 10, 2018 8:57 pm

Manapua from Libby Manapua. Call and ask for Sandy.

  55. AllG July 10, 2018 9:31 pm

    Li Hing Mui for sure!!

  56. Jimbo July 10, 2018 9:49 pm

Why not bring another cookie from the Big Island and bring Kelly Boys Likikoi Short Bread Cookies. If I could I would dip the whole cookie in the lilikoi sauce.

Some other suggestions that aren’t perishable will be Stone Cookies, Donna’s Cookies, Kaui Cookie Company. Also has Atebara potato chips.

Perishable items which are my favs to bring back to oahu are Chocolate Mochi from Maui Specialty Chocolates or Strawberry mochi from 2 Ladies Kitchen. Also cream Horns from Stillwells or Goodie Goodie ice cream in Maui. Kanemitsu Bakery bread on Molokai, if they still got it. Kamehameha Bakery has their poi donuts. Too much deserts to mention actually so I will stop there.

  57. Aaron July 10, 2018 10:29 pm

He should say he’s bringing “lots of lavas” making like it’s from the volcano but he should show up with nice lava lavas from the swap meet for everyone.

Oh and Kona Brewing and Maui Brewing have brewmaster alliances or distribution alliances (Kona with Red Hook and Pyramid and Maui with Stone) but I think the beer we get here is still brewed here to a certain degree. Craft breweries have to work together to compete with the big guys. But if those are too mainalnd for you, Aloha Beer, Honolulu Beerworks, and Waikiki Brewing have some nice beers on island. Kohola in Lahaina has some good stuff too…
