Kapolei’s Toilolo picks Warriors
Linebacker/safety Dylan Toilolo will join the Warriors next week. Here’s the skinny:
> Credentials: Toilolo was named to the Star-Advertiser’s all-state first team as a Saint Louis School linebacker in 2016 and to the second team as a Kapolei High safety last year. He can mix it up (he was an inside backer in the Crusaders’ 3-4 scheme) and all over the place in the Hurricanes’ 4-4 defense.
> Road to Manoa: Toilolo was all set to join Utah. He declared as much during the commitment ceremony in February, exiting wearing a Utah hat. But then … 1) his mother, who also had planned to move to Salt Lake City, received a promotion at her job in Honolulu, and 2) he was impressed with UH’s new coaches (defensive coordinator/safeties coach Corey Batoon and assistant head coach/linebackers coach.
> Easy fit: Toilolo can play safety, linebacker of hybrid. Jacob Yoro is the hybrid coach.
> Quick help: Toilolo said he begins classes on Monday, the first day of UH’s second summer session. He will report on July 26 for the opening of training camp.
> Thinking ahead: Toilolo is physical and cerebral. He is a chess enthusiast who was partly responsible for starting a chess club at Saint Louis.
Nice…losing Keala doesn’t sting quite as much now…I remember watching a segment on cover 2 about him last season I always thought he was under the radar.
1st, i think
2nd
Nice pick up! Toilolo> Santiago
Wait. If he signed with Utah, how is he coming to UH? Did Utah give him a release. Or is he walking on for now?
Keeping ’em home … NICE … this one is sweet with the exit of Santiago & Moale … hopefully we’re on to something with this Coaching Staff …
LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS … !!!!!
You win some and you lose some. Some stay and some go. In the end, it’s the one’s that want to be Warriors that count so welcome Dylan!
If the Warriors are to succeed, they will have to improve greatly on defense. With the much anticipated resurrection of the “run and shoot” getting most of the attention, we cannot forget that it’s the defense that will dictate our fate. As we know from the past with the RnS, the defense must have quality and depth to compensate for quick scores and even quicker three and outs. Games will be long with probable no huddle possessions and incomplete pass clock stoppages. That is where our new defensive coaches will show their greatly needed experience. Experience that may just be the biggest improvement in any one area on the team.
Go Warriors!
Trade Dylan for Moala any day. His mother’s boss must be a big Warrior fan and made her an offer they couldn’t refuse! In any case another local boy who wants to stay home. Can’t have enough of those. Welcome aboard!
Great to hear Toilolo staying home. I’m with #5 though…he likely signed his LOI and faxed it in which makes it binding. That new NCAA transfer rule doesn’t go into affect until October and he still has to site out a year. I guess we’ll see once ST confirms.
When you’re 17 or 18, a long-term plan usually means envisioning life at 21. It’s hard to see that far ahead. I know it was for me. It probably was for you, too.
But if you’re in college, just make the most of it. Take the classes you want to take, make the most friends, build connections. And just have fun.
The real world will never be as much fun as college.
And people should always look for happiness. Real happiness. Not just a nice locker or a team that serves post-practice smoothies. Go to a place where (see above) you can take the classes you want, make the most friends … and so forth.
Someone said he was a walk on at Utah ?

The good Lord giveth and the good Lord taketh away. Here’s wishing Toilolo a great future at UH!
I never was, and remain, not a bot!
GO WARRIORS!!!
I saw in a movie – “God must love crazy people, He makes so many of them”.
Interesting to read about these top tier players deciding to play for the Warriors after all. Meanwhile, outside there’s a drizzling rain and bright sun. Liquid sunshine. RAINBOW WEATHER!
Thanks to all recruits who will be playing for Hawai’i!
GO WARRIORS!!!
some have raised the same questions that entered my head, but in the end, he chose to stay home and play for UH
walk-on or scholarship — does he have to sit a year?
DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He plays immediately
has this been posted ?
Kahuku’s freshman-to-be quarterback Tiger Adolpho, has already been offered by Hawaii.
GO WARRIORS !!!
Can someone please clarify if Dylan was offered a football scholarship by Utah and signed his LOI. Wondering if this was the case, how he will be able to play right away. Aren’t LOI’s binding when signed, or if you do not report, are granted a release; then you are free? Nice to get good news about a local star coming back.
🙂

good to hear!
last time UH offered a youngster in intermediate school — he went where???
good to hear that UH coaching staff is letting players/parents know that UH should be considered every time!
go get um!!!!!
perhaps there will come a day when UH, like The Ohio State, can tell recruits that he has 3 days to accept an offer — there are NO second chances!
perhaps, also, that the PAC 12 will look kindly at UH and offer membership — it may not be in my life time, but it would be nice.
then I can join all the Tsaikos looking down and doing the “shaka” sign with great glee!
@ Stephen Tsai, he plays immediately? Walk on Scholarship?
He is not listed in Utah’s recruiting class and checking the internet he was not mentioned as being recruited by Utah so he probably was going there as a walk on. He can play this year.
I heard some local boys teared it up at the All Poly camp in Utah. I heard 1 DE made mvp, 1 DT made mvp, 1 OL (C) made mvp, 1 RB made mvp, 1 MLB made mvp, 1 OLB made mvp, 1 safety made mvp, and 1corner made mvp. I sure hope these young men get some serious looks. Hawaii coaches better get on them before they slip through the cracks and go away.
Hope we have a winning season, it’s been too long!

Savich now has the best comments to post.
I’m not an expert on transfer rules, but I think a player is eligible to play immediately if he receives a release from the school (Utah) and does not transfer to a school in the same conference (Pac 12) even though he signed a LOI. Maybe ST can confirm.
I have to do some stuff until 9:30 so I’m going to close the comments until then. See you guys in a bit.

We’re back.
First
Stephen, saw a twitter picture w/Justus Tavai. Has he checked in yet? GoWarriors!!!!
re: #23 A-house
Pac 12 membership may not happen in our lifetime but UH (with the support of the whole State) can surely do their best to set a higher standard, so to make a more compelling and competitive proposal for future consideration should they expand. We should do it (set a higher standard) not only for membership consideration, but for our own fulfillment as a People here.
Hawaii is such an international region, so much potential is out there for the University to somehow tap into. We just need to figure out how to do it before some other School does. Some “outside the box” critical thinking is needed (especially the funding aspect) but its not an impossible task. There are enough smart people out there that can do this.
Improved academic quality, athletic program success, increased enrollment, improved Community (on and off campus)infrastructure, international audience and an ultra-modern right sized new Aloha Stadium. Maybe not in our lifetime but we should at least try to raise the standard here.
#35-could not agree more-invest in one of your more visible assets! I have so much H gear I almost never go out without the H on. Hats shirts coats, my car is forest green with an H decal-people every day and I mean every day recognize it normally with go Warriors, Hawaii etc. always followed by how they miss the bombs away passing days and swarming defensive play-can’t come soon enough! GoWarriors!!!
burro sabio: I had to check the movie. I couldn’t believe it was a line from ‘Rambo III”. It sounded like something out of a Billy Wilder film.
“Why didn’t he just make one, another angel. I mean, he’s God after all.”
This is from “Rabbit Hole”. Nicole Kidman delivers this line.
Nicole Kidman, born in Hawaii.
This film is so deep. Instead of heaven, the protagonist finds comfort in parallel universes. In one of these worlds, her child is still alive.
It’s science that comforts her.
Yup Cappie Dog, Rambo III.
I’m not a robot, still yet.
Just checkin’ if the bot fairy got me last night…
nope, apparently not!
GO WARRIORS!!!
lazy, hazy days of summer are here!!!
are the players still practicing on their own? end of spring, coaches tell players what they must to before reporting to fall camp?

DLM your #41:
thank you for update — it’s tough to run on “dry” sand, but it strengthens your lower body and builds stamina
comparable to running hills?
we are watching Korean historical drama, Warrior of the Wind — dates back to 4 AD — a tribal King created a special ops unit trained to infiltrate and assassinate rival leaders, speak several languages, learn their culture, attain combat skills, etc. — part of their training included running, non-stop for 4 days and nights.
I’m watching my first CFL game ever.
I have a question.
Is it an illegal pass if you throw it through the goalposts?
