Filling the line up

Blessman Taala and Kendall Hune

Two things have been noticeable about the defensive tackles: 1) Ricky Logo has established himself as a tireless recruiter and detailed instructor, and 2) the gaps are being filled.

Blessman Taala, who enrolled at UH in January, has fully healed from a knee procedure that led to him grayshirting in the fall. He was impressive in spring training.

And Kendall Hune recently arrived in town and is prepared to contribute this fall.

Zeno Choi, Eperone Moananu, Doug Russell and Samieula Akoteu are established interior linemen. Even with recent losses, there appears to be depth at defensive tackle and nose guard.

A banging defense and a running shooting offense. Looks like things are coming together nicely.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

    1st! After DPK . . .

    Things are looking up!

There is a video somewhere of the Samoa vs Hawaii all star game where a OL from Waianae I believe pulls on a play from the right side and Blessman meets him head on behind the line of scrimmage. Blessman was like a brick wall. The other lineman simply crumbled. It reminded me of when I witnessed Kesi Afalava collide with Jessie Sapolu in practice on a crack back block. Tomey ended practice right there.

Patiently waiting for more arrivals. BTW Tony Finau the only professional golfer of Polynesian descent is I the final pairing for US open. He is said to be the longest hitter on the circuit-

I used to worry that we weren’t getting enough quality big guys. I don’t feel that way anymore.

Meanwhile, on ESPN2, JJ and Glanville on the Hamilton sidelines brings back very special memories! It’s half time. Still time to tune in!

Very nice. All part of the learning process on building a program. The “blue print” is different for UH Football, but this looks like the right track. Now I hope some solid leadership emerges from key players, on and off the field. Looks loaded (but young yet). The pieces are falling together for sure. Thank you for the hard work everyone (players, coaches, even alumni). Go Warriors

  8. suckkabooya June 16, 2018 2:53 pm

Oh yeah, and the media too.

I kind of like the Canadian rules.

Always fun to see my former teammate on TV-

  11. islandman June 16, 2018 4:21 pm

I like the 1-pt rule, something about the ball going in the end zone.
Tiger-Cats were leading after 3 quarters, 11-9. TV showed Dan Morrison on the sidelines with Jones and Manziel. Briefly also McKnight.
The telecast showed a picture of the 1988 Houston Oilers staff. HC Glanville,QB coach Jones and DB coach Nick Saban .

Hune looks big; not fat. Also awaiting the arrival of Jalani’s brother, Justus Tavai, DT 6-3/290. Interior looks solid. Lot’s of new guys at DE. Wonder if they’re ready.

  13. AllG June 16, 2018 6:35 pm

Don’t remember Kendall Hune as a signee is he a schollie or walk on?

  14. H-Man June 16, 2018 6:49 pm

Checked UH Athletics’ NLI signing update. Hune signed on March 5th. He’s a junior with 2 to play 2 from Arizona Western CC.

Let’s hope Hawaii football overachieves like the Iceland “football” team.

    Iceland soccer=Molokai High School baseball.

Not supposed to be this good.

    RE: #15

The neighbor islands (except Maui) just never realized how good Ken Nakayama’s squad was until states came around.

It would seem we have shaping to be a very tough defensive unit for 2018, with a promising Run and Shoot offense, this is a “rebuilding year for our Warrior football team.
Because its a rebuilding year coupled with a soft football season schedule, our Warriors might make it into the 2018 Hawaii bowl with at least six wins. i say might.
Our Warriors open with Colorado State on the road. If you remember our Warriors were literally demolished by this Colorado team 52-22 on our turf last year. Although Colorado State is reportedly rebuilding their 2018 defensive line.

  18. Sangamon Keith June 17, 2018 4:28 am

#13 Hune was a late LOI recruit. He is former Indiana All-State DE … has grown and muscled up since then.

  19. Maddog50 June 17, 2018 4:47 am

Stephen I know you have posted this schedule before but how bout some help one father to another and put out the arrival dates for the ,remaining newcomers and Happy Fathers Day

  20. Kahuna June 17, 2018 9:52 am

Blessman looks like a man. For a freshman, he is well built and solid looking. Most freshman arrive either too small in the upper body area or too small in the lower body area. Blesssman doesn’t have that big belly some lineman possesss and have arms like a bodybuilder.

Dang….Dude only a freshman too. Looking forward to him being the next Isaac Sapoaga.

  21. Kahuna June 17, 2018 9:57 am

Somebody need to get a matching shirt and shoes for Kendall. We are part of th Under Armour family brah. Any other apparel company gears are to be burned. 😉

  22. 808WarriorFan June 17, 2018 12:47 pm

Let’s HOPE for an “over-achieving” team this year …..

LIVE ALOHA / PLAY WARRIOR / DEFEND THE ROCK … GO ‘BOWS … !!!!!

  23. NorthShoreFan June 17, 2018 1:14 pm

Hoping for some long term coaching commitment that will give the team some long term continuity. To have the team learn new schemes every couple of years might be a bit harsh for the players.
Getting the O and D on the same page through out might prove to be beneficial. Things always look promising during the off season and this is to be expected. Looking for that build up of anticipation and excitement going in to the season. Dog days of summer is here and this will weed out the committed and “Tsaiko” players and the cruisers. IMUA Warriors!

    22.

    I am not a troll.

I still believe that running the triple-option gives Hawaii the best chance to win.

I just want the best for the program.

You’re not going to win the SEC running the flex-bone, but the Mountain West?

    Yes.

  25. cappie the dog June 17, 2018 2:57 pm

    Max Duval exists.

He is pitching for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.

I have the Jumbo Shrimp cap to prove it.

Jacksonville is the AA affiliate for the Miami Marlins.

    He is 1-6 with a 6.53 ERA . SO/BB: 50/14 in 51 innings.

And Kyle Dowdy is pitching at the AAA level.

Dowdy and David Longville finished their careers at Houston.

  26. Da Punchbowl Kid June 17, 2018 9:23 pm

    cappie –

Happy Faddahs Day! You not a troll. Love dat triple option too. That and the RnS produced some of our best teams IMHO. We’ll see. I am not a bot.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  27. burro sabio June 17, 2018 9:33 pm

Only problem is you gotta find someone to coach the triple option before you can use it.

  28. 808WarriorFan June 18, 2018 7:16 am

#27 “burro sabio” … good point … & the players, especially QB, to execute it …
