Does the Top Flight award replace the All American award?
Hawaii takes all 5 first sets. SC clearly making adjustments in set 2.
Thanks again Cindy. Like I said, too close. Was Clay Stanley playing for Hawai’i in 1999 or was he out already? 2001 BYU defeats UCLA. That was the year in history that also marked a milestone. Remember? Al Qaida, OSAMA BIN LADEN, blamed for the attack on the world trade center in New York. All over the news. Wew…
1. no it does not replace All-America awards. Those announced in the next few days.
Top Flight designed to recognize individual pairs based on a formula of percentage of wins and playing together at a certain flight.
Kan-Weaver give UH the first point
Florida State defeats USC 3-1. Noles play Bruins in a bit.
2003, Lewis defeats BYU. Stan Sheriff Center is trying to go national coverage. Too close. Wew…
Ozee-Homayun win at Flt 4. up 2-0
Pepperdine sweeps FIU 3-0. will play the winner of SandBows-Gamecocks
Hawaii clinches 3-0 at Flt 5. faces Pepperdine next
Hawaii defeats SC, with 2 sets still in play.
10. match over. you just need 3 points to win
Glad that Hawaii won 3-0. Play was stopped when Maglio-Schut had 21-20 against their opponents in the second set. I wonder who would have won that set if play hadn’t stopped due to the 3-0 win. It was interesting to hear how the match was stopped. It wasn’t a ref’s whistle, but a horn or something. So Hawaii will face Pepperdine at noon.
Because the courts are so spread out, they use a horn to stop play so everyone hears at the same time.
Not familiar with beach volleyball yet. Hawai’i has chosen to go wirh Wahine. Nationally, still a new sport for Hawai’i. Their coach Scott Wong played for Long Beach State. I think. College play.
14. Seek help please. I know you’re a troll, but please still seek help.
It’s HOT here in Gulf Shores! I’m watching court 1, but it seems slightly cooler on 4 & 5…closer to water with no bleachers obstructing air!
Flt #1 was actually tied at 22 when the horn sounded, even tho big score had showed dual was clinched a couple points earlier.
*big score board
PS…does anyone know why Emily’s leg is wrapped?
Doesn’t look like Uh pepp match will start on time, maybe a half hour later.
14. Wong is indoor at Pepperdine. He played for the Waves. Jeff Hall is the SandBows coach

The Big West Conference handed out its all-conference awards as voted by the league coaches with the University of Hawai’i again taking home top honors. Emily Maglio and Ka’iwi Schucht were named the Big West Pairs Team of the Year, Lea Monkhouse was named Freshman of the Year, while Jeff Hall was named Coach of the Year.
It marked the third straight year that UH took home Pair Team and Freshman of the Year honors. Meanwhile, Hall claimed Coach of the Year honors for the second time in three years.
Maglio and Schucht have been an unstoppable force all year, forging a 34-4 record. The pair have gone 25-1 since moving to the top flight and set a new school record with 25 straight wins. This is the second time Maglio has earned Big West Pairs Team of Year honors. The Coquitlam, Canada native also garnered the honor while playing with Katie Spieler as a freshman. Meanwhile, Schucht, a senior from Escondido, Calif., gained all-Big West honors for the third straight year.
Monkhouse, a native of Mississauga, Canada, has enjoyed a spectacular debut season with the Rainbow Wahine setting a new single-season win mark as a freshman (34). She’s teamed with sophomore Morgan Martin, last year’s Freshman of the Year, to go a perfect 19-0 at the No. 2 flight. The pair joined Maglio and Schucht as first-team selections.
In his fourth season at the helm of the SandBows, Hall has led UH to a school-record 35 wins, including 30 straight, heading into this weekend’s NCAA Tournament. He is the winningest coach in program history and has guided UH to three straight Big West Tournament titles.
Also gaining Big West recognition were the pairs of Carly Kan/Laurel Weaver (second team) and Ari Homayun/Amy Ozee (honorable mention). Homayun has appeared on the all-Big West list three years , Kan and Weaver are repeat selections, and Ozee is a first-time honoree.

Martin and Monkhouse lost twice today. Wow!
The first match was unfinished, so M-M lost just once.
Dual tied 2-2. SandBows lose at 4 15-12
Hawaii’s fate now hinges on the play of court 5 as the score is tied 2-2.
Zalopany-Dreeuws win Set 3 15-13. UH wins dual 3-2
Court 5 barely eked out a victory, 15-13, as a Pepperdine player hit out. Hawaii survived a close one!
That 5 flight gave me so much anxiety! Thank god we pulled it out. What a match!! Go bows!
Wow just when you think hannah might have blown it she comes up with a huge play.
Go wahine:) need morgan/lea to pick it up tomorrow, don’t think they lost the first match though as it was stopped in the third set when the wahine already sealed it.
Like Brandon, I think watching the duel screens filled me with extreme anxiety. I didn’t want to watch but I couldn’t look away! The players are so good and so athletic it is a pleasure to watch regardless who wins. Just kidding!! Wahine need to win! Go Bows!
Such an Awesome Day !! On the other hand, I was sensing some misfortunes when we had the 2 courts playing for 1 win…Oh boy, if I had a blood pressure monitor set up to me, my doctor wouldn’t be too happy. Now, I can relax the rest of today and see a couple more teams eliminated tomorrow a.m. before I see my SandBows keep on truckin’ through to perhaps a “National Champions Banner!”
Lastly, I know Monkhead and Morgan will turn it around tomorrow….
Contenders!
Monkhead again lol
i guess it gets autocorrected a lot?
This is post season. Everybody is good. You have got to anticipate a lot of close matches. I know I myself get ansy too so what I do is NOT watch it. Just check out the results afterward…LOL
So if the wahine make the final, and they lose to the team from the losers bracket, do they play one more, since the losers got a chance after they lost or is it done after that.
17. I heard she pulled something last weekend during the Big West event. I think it is a new injury; haven’t noticed it wrapped at any other time this season.
Congrats to all the pairs on the Top Flight awards and to Mags and Schucht, Monkhouse and Hall for the Big West Awards.
Good wins for the team today…onto to the semi’s!
Thanks, FitTrainer! I didn’t think I’d seen it wrapped last weekend or earlier…otherwise, I wouldn’t have been quite so ‘alarmed’ when I saw it today! Hopefully it doesn’t bother her too much! She seemed more mobile in the second match!
42. My bad! I don’t know why I keep writing Monkhead when I know its Monkhouse. Probably write too fast without going over what I wrote. I always post without proofreading. I will not make that mistake hopefully again.
Can anyone confirm how they heard about Austin leaving warriors? Is he transferring to another school to play? I’m assuming Cindy has heard but isn’t allowed to say anything as of yet? Was watching the Punahou/Kealakehe game last nite on tv, they showed Tui in the crowd and spoke a little bit about him. In anycase, GO SANDBOWS!

new thread up for Saturday.
44. nwe thread gives you the schedule. it’s double elimination. Hawaii-FSU loser plays tomorrow in losers bracket final. that loser out, winner to championship final
As for Maglio’s wrap, she’s wrapped it during practices so I don’t think it’s new. It may have been aggravated.
48. No, have not heard anything about Matautia leaving. I’m not restricted from saying anything. Have asked around and people have told me that it’s not true. But you never know. I guess you can always go back to VT ‘-)
