SandBows sweep UW to take the championship. Well done UH!
Seems like the only place where the Wahine can beat Washington these days. Let’s hope Robyn can change that in the future with some great training and awesome recruiting.

Maglio-Schucht like to keep things exciting. Think these tough matches will serve them well in the big west and ncaa tournaments.
The UW results should show us fans that sand and indoor are a different breed. UW was loaded with their indoor players and we smoked them with only Mags being a crossover. Same thing with Nebraska.
From now on, I am assuming only the elite players who will contribute to the beach team can crossover. No more hanging around the beach teams just to cross train. With Hall bringing in big time beach players, there will be even less room for crossovers.
5. Agree. Indoors and Beach is 2 different breeds. You definitely have to be in better cardio shape and IMO, more athletic in Sand because you have to do what you do in 6 positions in indoor in 2.
I think the Stanford’s , Utah, and Washington’s that would commit more time in Sand than use it for “Cross Training” could be at level of UCLA, Pepperdine, USC and Hawaii. I really thought Dani Barton of Utah (#1Flight) is an excellent Indoor and Sand Player. Being Utah’s 1st match this weekend, their #1 Flight IMO was pretty good.
Our SandBows are very solid and I think is a Final 4 Team for the May NCAA Championships in Alabama. Their experience stacked with a talented Freshman Class aka. Monkhead and Co. may fare well in a couple weeks from now. I feel separating the Indoor and Beach is the better route for Hawaii right now. Cross Training is good but I would rather have the indoor athletes work on their personal growth skillwise ( weight training etc.) and not get burnt out playing too much volleyball
Even the non-post season contention teams will manage to have at least one very competitive pair, usually at the #1s. What differentiates the post-season contenders is their depth at flights 2-5, and one or two super subs. Utah and UW likely won’t be ranked in the remaining polls this year, but they’ll be very competitive at the top pair. When your #1s are winning, it puts a lot of pressure on the oppositions weaker flights. Hawaii’s depth has served them well there. And, Maglio-Schucht’s performance at #1s, where they keep dangling third sets in front of the opposition is keeping the opposition’s best pair at the #1s, hoping for the upset, instead of sliding them down to the #2s and giving up the #1s. I doubt it is being planned this way, but sometimes serendipitous things happen.
4. Agree that these tough matches at the #1 flight will serve them well. They have proven time and again that they can come from behind, keep their cool and come up with a win. That and they are really getting their conditioning in!
6. Dani Barton probably even better than Anae in Beach. The #1 flight have had tough matches for the last two weekends. Most teams are fielding a really good #1 pair but don’t have the depth at the lower flights.
I am super stoked that Lea Monkhead is a Wahine. Every time I watched her play, I get more impressed with her overall game. She is only a freshman too. I can’t imagine how good she will be in a couple of years.
If she wants to play indoor for Robyn, I have the feeling she will excel at that too. She can pass, she can bring the hammer and she is very athletic.
Funny thing is opponent target her on serve receive….which means she will get a lot of chance to terminate. She usually do terminate. I guess many opponents fear Morgan Martin more so they “pick on” Lea but I think Lea have answered the call emphatically.
Stupid spell check…MONKHOUSE!!!!!
Barton and Anae are both good on the beach, Barton is probably better on the beach than indoors, too bad Barton will probably have no beach eligibility to transfer to a good beach program after Utah like Carly Kan did.
Hope Julia Scoles picks Hawaii looks like she was at their team dinner yesterday according to their instagram.
Curious…the article in the paper doesn’t mention Mags as one of the seniors being honored next week! Is this because she’s definitely decided to come back for her last year of eligibility, or because she is a beach senior?
*is not a beach senior
Maglio is a junior in Beach.
And Mags has committed to return for her senior year next spring.

new thread up.
10. Monkhouse is on scholarship for beach so she cannot play indoors. Even if she wasn’t, have mentioned that Ah Mow-Santos isn’t big on crossovers.
12. was impressed with Barton and Anae. especially considering this was their first matches of year.
13 have mentioned for a while that Maglio is a junior. she redshirted as a freshman for sand.
she may or may not come back. I asked her this last week. her family encouraging her to stay and take advantage of the educational opportunities. She is now double majoring, said things may change. Guess TV said she had committed to returning??
