Warriors announce 2018 schedule
The Warriors will open and close their 2018 regular season on the road, school officials announced today.
The Warriors will open against Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo., on Aug. 25. That “week zero” game is part of an NCAA exemption that allows UH and its 2018 opponents to play a week ahead of the usual start to the college-football season. By using the exemption, the Warriors will have a bye this season – on Nov. 10 — instead of playing 13 weeks in a row without a break.
The Warriors’ other Mountain West Conference road games are against San Jose State (Sept. 29), Fresno State (Oct. 27) and the regular-season finale at San Diego State (Nov. 24).
2018 UH football schedule
> Aug. 25 — At Colorado State
> Sept. 1 — Navy
> Sept. 8 — Rice
> Sept. 15 — At Army
> Sept. 22 — Duquesne
> Sept 29 — At San Jose State
> Oct. 6 — Wyoming
> Oct. 13 — At Brigham Young
> Oct. 20 — Nevada
> Oct. 27 — At Fresno State
> Nov. 3 — Utah State
> Nov. 10 — Bye
> Nov. 17 — UNLV
> Nov. 24 — At San Diego State

When the Warriors needed a late recruiting push, they received one from running back Steven Lakalaka, who turned down an offer from UCLA to sign with UH in 2012.
When the Warriors needed to move the chains, Lakalaka delivered, with 81 first-down rushes during his UH career. He was perfect on third-and-1-to-3 situations in 2015.
He filled in when Joey Iosefa and Diocemy Saint Juste were injured, and was ready when Saint Juste and Paul Harris took the lions’ share of carries.
He played and rebounded despite seemingly having a standing MRI reservation each year.
He was in the front row for the ha‘a and the background when it came to accepting recognition.
Lakalaka, who completed his UH career at the end of the 2016 season, did not participate in last year’s pro day to focus on rehabbing a knee injury. But he promised he would give it a shot this year.
He recently notified the UH coaches he would not participate in this year’s pro day, either. He plans to continue pursuing a career in the medical field.
Lakalaka leaves the sport the way he played it — with dignity and without fanfare.
First! Good luck Dr. Lakalaka
We could use more like Steven Lakalaka. All the best for a great Warrior.
Best wishes and good luck to a true Warrior!
ST:
“good feel” story about Lakalaka — makes me proud to be from Hawaii!!
just like I was proud to have President Obama — local boy make good — actually, we would tease his Dad about having a “haole” girl friend — only because we all did not have any girl friends, let alone a “haole” girl friend!!!
What a piece of crap schedule.
A fridgin BYE after 11 games and right before a home game against a subpar UNLV game? Lose money, if guys are bust up by then, a bye week won’t really help.
Last home game and senior walk on Nov 17th?? HHSAA isn’t even done with their state title game.
Unless we go to the Hawaii bowl, home fans wont see football for a dang long time.
The week zero game only helps that we don’t play CSU in cold conditions.
Oh well… Everyone can start planning their Weddings, Baby Luau, Holiday Parties and Funerals now that the schedule is out
In the perfect world, a Bye before the Wyoming or Utah St game would have been beneficial.
Oops I should have said anytime between the Wyoming and Utah St game
Darn San Diego game is on Thanksgiving weekend. Hope I can make it.
As far as team goes the positive is 3 consecutive weeks home. Except for a jaunt to the coast for Fresno the stability of non travel looks good for the end of the year. Already on board for CSU, might have to bookend and make SDSU-GoWarriors!!!
5. ..Some games may be moved to Thurs or Fridays.
——————————————————————————————-
“…Today’s announcement represents the first phase of the 2018 football schedule process. MW national television partners CBS Sports Network and ESPN will now initiate a selection procedure which will include the shifting of particular games to Thursdays and Fridays.
That will be followed by the identification of network outlets and kick times, along with the picks for regional partner AT&T SportsNet, Stadium, and Spectrum Sports.”

OK, now if only the 49ers are at home on 9/30 or 10/28 and a travel agency can book this weekend trip — hell-la-louya!
If the ball bounces the right way a bowl game is possible. The home schedule makes me believe there will be little to no growth in attendance.
#5: Agree. The conference didn’t do UH a favor with such a late-season bye.
Lakalaka –
Great family, great guy and a tremendous Warrior. He was one of the few players whom I knew personally and was impressed by him every time we spoke. I pray he succeeds at whatever he does.
Yep, tough schedule. Warriors gotta be prepared.
I like the sound of Dr. Lakalaka. Good luck young man and thank you for being a Warrior.
If we played Air Force this season, we would’ve played all Armed Forces football teams.
Du-ken-ze.
Lots of winnable games.
No body-bag games.
Get to 7.
Save our bowl.
All I can say is this is a huge middle finger to UH by the Mountain West. What a waste of a bye week.
#19: Perhaps, there was a little give-and-take. The MW did move the game against CSU to Week Zero, so hard for UH to complain where the bye landed. It is what it is …
If you call a game a body bag game you’ve lost way before you even started.
Not football but Kanoa Leahy doing the Oregon vs. Washington State Men’s Bball game on ESPN2 with Coach Carlisimo.
Steven Lakalaka will be successful in whatever field he enters, especially if he plans to work in Hawaii. Much Aloha to him!
Seems better to play on the road Thanksgiving weekend. The players don’t miss classes on Thursday and Friday, and home games played that weekend don’t draw much of a crowd anyway.
Good schedule. 0-4 guaranteed loss. It’s going to be another losing season. Rolo at the captain’s seat.
Probably. Maybe. Navy game. Hey…!
Excerpt from today’s SA article regarding the 2018 schedule, “”Rolovich quoted author Carlos Castaneda: “We either make ourselves miserable or we make ourselves stronger. The amount of energy it takes is the same.”” Rolo is also quoted as being excited for this season.
Great Morning All!
…And then you live your life.
Best wishes Mr. Lakalaka!
Re: Da Sched
It’s almos’ Six Months Away! 👿
IS IT SATURDAY YET?
I support Trapasso and the baseball program, but it drives me crazy that(and I’ve seen this from time to time) his teams don’t take advantage of momentum. The Rainbows just came off a split with a team whose RPI was 22. And then they come out flat, getting shut out by a team with a RPI of 155.
Hmmmm……wonder why Viane Moala transferred to Utah?

And please don’t tell me that’s what the “really bad news” was that was coming from the other boards. I could’ve thought of much more things to be worse than that.
As people say- you win some, you lose some; they come and they go. Looking forward to the season coming up despite the mass exodus that’s happening with all the players.
You know something is not right when so many players who get significant playing time are transferring. Rolo’s got to get the culture right. I know that every team has their share of transfers but seems like there are some major issues at UH.
I have total complete faith in the path Coach Rolovich is taking. Although not celebrating the losses to the roster, it is my opinion that none are beyond replacing. Sometimes decisions are arrived at that when all said and done turn out not to be in the best interest of those directly affected. I look forward to the new staff that have proven tracks records in all phases of College football coaching including coaching development and recruiting. I am also sure that based on their resume’s they understand that as a staff member one of their functions is the support of the HC who hired them with the best intentions and therefore understand how critical loyalty to HC and program are of the utmost importance. This season will be a new look and exciting times for Warrior football! GoWarriors!!!!
Viane Moala transferred to the University of Utah and the PAC 12. What’s going on at UH?
