Future Warrior gets a head start
Farrington High defensive lineman Foi Sila, who will join the Warriors as a walk-on this summer, is on an early track academically.
Because Sila already has accumulated enough credits for his high school diploma, he is taking classes at Windward Community College this semester. He will participate in Farrington’s commencement ceremony on May 26.
“I decided I should start early with my credits,” said Sila, whose long-term goal is to work in law enforcement.
Sila recently participated in HPD’s ride-along program.
Sila was born in American Samoa. He moved to Hawaii in 2007. He caught football fever at an early age.
“I’ve been watching (the Warriors’) games ever since I was little,” said Sila, who also has researched the program’s history. Jesse Sapolu, Taase Faumui and Lance Samuseva were among the Farrington alumni to star at UH.
“The names are so great to hear,” Sila said. “When I hear their names, I go back and watch their highlights. I really look up to Jesse Sapolu. He’s been where I’m at. I’m going where his footsteps are (at UH). I’m hoping to follow his footsteps and the path he set for public-school people. I’m hoping other people will follow his footsteps, too.”
GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!
Add another Governor!
Am I first?
Hey, coming in 2nd after Mr. Mui is pretty good!
left Hawaii in the rain
returned to Hawaii in the rain
left plenty $$ in LV
it was windy and cold, like low 30’s and windy, every day!!!!
A-House
If it makes you feel better, it never stopped raining between the time you departed and returned.
We had some drama in our neighborhood when HFD and the ambulances had to rescue hikers. Don’t know what’s printed in the guide books, but I’m sure it’s universally known that people should not hike during a lightning storm.
A-House,
We were in Vegas last week too. Sorry we didn’t run into each other.
ST:
some tourists do the darnest/very stupid things
yep, everyone should know that you stay indoors during a lightning storm!
Warrior Dave:
doggoneit — would have been great to see you guys!
we were at the Orleans and went downtown on Wed, Thurs, and Friday to eat ox-tail soup at the Paradise Cafe in Fremont Casino — best in LV — meat falls off the bone, lots and lots of veggies, and soup tastes great!
and the rain continues in our valley and in the Koolau Mountain range — hope I’m around in 25 years to drink the watah!
now, let’s go back 25 years — where was I on 2/26/1993?
Does the ox tail have 5 star anise and ginger? if not no good
Howzit Tsaikos!
It’s official, Mermea is gone.

It starts with a vision, then a plan! Sila has both. And, he does the extra things that make for success. A good guy to have as a Warrior!
Bright kid. Can’t wait until I see you play Foi!!!
Can’t miss something we never saw…. Peace out ✌
ONLY
180 days mo… .
@Colorado State
See ya, doughboy…..hope you take academics seriously at your new school…..I have faith that Sila will be a good one.
A defensive lineman who really wants to be a Warrior, and one who doesn’t. So be it.
Mahalo, Sila. As Jesse Sapolu has been an inspiration to you, you will one day inspire others, too. There have been many high school standouts here that never made it to college, so it’s refreshing to read about a young man with a plan and determination to be successful in life.
RE: #11
Good. Only care about those who are determined to wear the H.
I have NO doubt that this young man will receive a scholarship soon. Rolo always reward kids like him. Great student, fine young man and hopefully an impact DLineman.
I will be following this guy’s career and have no doubt he will be successful at whatever he do.
#10:
“dashi” includes star anise and lots of grated shoga on the side
they even offer Chinese mustard in a packet – just like ketchup!
growing up we used to gather 5-star mokihana to make leis for May Day and graduation — aka, star anise.
Great Evening All!
Nice Mr. Foi!
Always good to have DLinemen who want to develop “arresting” personalities.
heheheh
Big news coming per another board. What is it ?
Awesome! Nice to hear about players who want to be here an play for the Warriors.
#20,
Islandman the only scenarios I can see taking place regarding the bad news is either:
-Rolovich leaving
-Cordeiro transferring/leaving
-Hawaii leaving MWC
-Hawaii football being busted for a certain thing that took place during season.
Not saying any of this IS or WILL be the bad news coming from the other boards but that’s all I could come up with. We’ll see what takes place later this week when the news drops.
I think all this talk of bad news is way off track-pretty sure it may have to do with final transfer news. I can understand somewhat Senior transfers, Can somewhat understand guys not being a fit for the program I.e. Homesick or whatever. I do think there are decisions being made or arrived at that may not be in the best interest of the individual involved. Will just be happy when the dust settles. We have a good crop of recruits coming in, solid returning starters at many positions and the best staff I’ve seen in awhile. Looking forward to some roster additions and moving forward
Why state scenarios #22 concerning bad news just to write something. This is how bad rumors are started. I am hopeful that the program continues to evolve under Rolo despite last season’s record. We have to recall June Jones second year did not turn out as expected. There were a lot of negative stuff after that season but we all know the rest of the story. I believe Coach Rolo is moving in the right direction to re-install the run and shoot. Mahalo to Sila for being a preferred walk-on who has the desire to succeed.
Reliving Hawaii’s NCAA victory over Cal, I stumbled across Iowa/Northwestern State. The guy who made the three at the buzzer was the same guy who was injured when the Demons visited the Stan Sheriff Center in 2006. Jermaine Wallace.
The Hawaii/Cal video package I watched was so hillariously California-centric.
Oldtimer 808 could not have said it better. The sky aint falling. I too look forward to Foi and young men like him making a positive impact! GoWarriors!!!!
I echo the sentiments of oldtimer808…..sheesh, nuff with da drama gossip….so extra
Got this email from Rolo:
Tom,
Received your email from my mom. Can’t tell you how thankful we are for what you have done throughout the years. I would like to pledge $500 to the account. Please put a $50 in the name of all the assistant coaches, I will let them know. Appreciate it.

Can you help me reach my goal by making a $25 donation to the UH Foundation Fund I created for UH Football recruiting–see below link.
