ST coordinator Chaudhari set to join Falcons
Mayur Chaudhari, the Warriors’ special teams coordinator the past two years, is expected to join the Atlanta Falcons’ coaching staff.
Chaudhari was instrumental in the development of kicker/punter Rigo Sanchez, now with the Indianapolis Colts. The Warriors blocked nine kicks the past two seasons.
UH has three options: 1) Hire a new ST coordinator, 2) Use a current coach to work with special teams, or 3) Spread ST responsibilities among several coaches.
At least, UH is losing coaches to good programs:
> Zak Hill — Boise State
> Jake Cookus — Oregon State
> Kevin Lempa — Michigan
> Legi Suiaunoa — Oregon State
> Kefense Hynson — Oregon State
> Sean Duggan — UMass
> Mayur Chaudhari — Atlanta Falcons

This is regarding the prior post. Week Zero has been approved for 2-3 years ago. I blame Matlin and his team for not being proactive by NOT making game changes years before. Non conference games are set years in advance. Why wait till the same calendar year to make changes??? Poor Management!!!
Fans who work need to request days off a year in advance. Changes are not guaranteed till 2 weeks before. Travel agencies who are Corporate Partners scramble to find new air and hotel rates. Any changes will probably be passed to the fans. They better not think about move the Army game at this late date.
Good luck to Mayur! He did make special teams exciting again. Rolo should hire a new ST coach to replace Mayur. Special Teams are an essential part of the game.
Time to bring on Rich Miano.
Oregon State and UMass are good programs?
Funny how so many couch coaches yell out for coaches to be replaced only to have them leave and move on to better financial and institutional opportunities. Sometimes good coaches get undermined, simply, by bad play or the lack of talent. Good luck to the Mayur.
That’s a big jump. Have a great career in the NFL.
Maybe Cory Batoon, who used to be from St. Louis high school, can do a better job. They should have retained Legi Suianoa. He’s a six-five tall man. A good defensive line coach. Personal reasons maybe.

Oregon has a bigger program. Legi had financial issues. So he felt best to leave Hawai’i.
#4 – no. Hell No.
Maybe UH will actually return punts now, and stop with that idea of kicking off high and short.
This years crop of reserve players (the backups that they use on special teams) looks to be very athletic and might have the potential to very productive. Just the kicking part has to improve (a lot). I’m especially eager to see Mataafa and Time hammer people. The next coordinator should be excited for the opportunity to tinker with all those intriguing pieces.
good luck to Coach Mayur. wasn’t a fan of those short kickoffs in the corner of the field, unless there was no kicker last season that could boom it in the endzone.
Let’s look at all ST stats for 2017
Block Kicks #6 out of 129
Net Punting #54
KO Return Defense #60
Punt Return Defense #70
KO Return Offense #88
Punt Return Offense #105
FG/Game
– Alex Trifonovich #135 of 139
– Ryan Metskell #134

My predition is Hawaii goes 8-4 with loss to Fresno,Boise, you can pick the two other teams
And This will be Rolo Last Season of he don’t reach 8-4
Info from big time donors
UH has big time donors?
Another assistant coach on the move. Greener pastures? Of course. More pay? Definitely. Cost of living? No brainer. Internal problems or lack of discipline? Maybe. Let’s see what Rolo’s new staff hires bring to the table. As for past coaches, such as Miano or McKnight, now’s not the time. Things have changed in college football so coaches out there right now have a better pulse of what is happening in the game. On another note, can the athletic department look at reintroducing the Green and White uniforms from the Price, Tommy, Wagner eras? Or at least consider them for alternative uniforms plus the white helmets, green face masks, and Rainbow Warrior logo?
Sorry Tomey. Spell check error
Maybe one day Hawaii will have big time donors not right now I’ve been a fan of Hawaii my whole life because it’s my home town team but here were things get interesting with me my oldest son graduated from Boise State so I’ve seen what big time donors look like…Sorry Hawaii doesn’t have big time donors.
Thanks for the stats BigWave! Hoping for a great replacement for Mayur. Good luck to him!
So ST, what’s the really, really bad news that you’re supposedly keeping from us? Only thing I can think of being ridiculously bad would be that Rolovich is leaving. Is he?
#18 – I don’t think that would be really really bad news to you, would it?
19,
No. Just seeing if I could get any response from him.
With the new offense to install 8-4 gonna be hard to do. Plus they play 13 games and no Boise until 2019. Just got to get to the Hawaii Bowl next year at least. When it is installed (the run and shoot: Batoon’s defense) their future looks bright, especially if they hit on another good recruitment season next year.
Maybe Chaudhari leaving was the bad news.
Anyone looking for a job ?

pay raise for zac hiil: a raise from $285k to $300k for OC Zak Hill.
$225k annual salary for DL coach Chad Kauha’aha’a
#20 – LOL
Darn, I finally remembered how to spell Mayur’s name…
We needed an overhaul in assistant coaching. Should be a whole new look next year.
I love Rich Miyano. Oh I mean Rich Miano, LOL
#27: I can’t be the only one who once thought Rich Miano and Barry Obama were of Japanese descent.
Would Reinebold be interested in the ST job? Lots of experience, and aloha for Hawaii, though he was recently hired by B.C. Just wondering …
