Coach classes
Most of the UH coaches, including Nick Rolovich, departed yesterday for Charlotte for the four-day American Football Coaches Association’s convention that begins today.
There are more than 6,000 attendees for what is considered to be an important gathering to learn, network and exchange ideas.
After returning to Hawaii at the end of the week, Rolovich is expected to fill the final three slots on his coaching staff — at offensive line, defensive line and receivers.

Eagerly awaiting the rest of the coaching hires.
Any chance of getting Dave Aranda as DL coach?
Kidding, of course…
Someone mentioned Brian Derby previously. That would be a nice choice. Also anxiously awaiting update of any new commits.
Its hard to justify using Public Funds for housing Professors/Coaches in these unsure economic times here. Public funding for Doctors makes more sense. Easier to justify. Perhaps they should lobby Boosters and Donors to make what seems to be a logical investment. Any company that would benefit from a better educated, more polished and prepared Student/Athlete in any sector should take a hard look at it. The State is always going to be short sighted when it comes to things like this but the “Public” even worse, always looking out for their own self interest. Human Nature. Once UH Football starts winning they can lobby with some leverage. For now its pay your taxes, then “pit of misery”. Dilly Dilly.
The coaches convention is also a jobs fair.
Hope the fishing is good.
#4 – you’d be surprised at how low the salaries are for new Asst Profs and asst coaches (excluding FB & MBB).
I know. I know.
You’re dying to know how Megan Huff is doing at Utah.
Huff hit a three to bring the Utes within a possession against Washington State.
Then she dished an assist to tie the game at 77.
Utah wins 81-79.
Isaac Fleming, on the other hand, is playing on a team that in all likelihood will finish last.
He has some high turnover games.
Brian derby is an excellent technique coach. However, what about the other admin duties and recruiting stuff?
Perhaps as a grad asst?
Can you help me reach my goal by making a $25 donation to the UH Foundation Fund I created for UH Football recruiting–see below link. If 2000 fans do this, we will raise $50,000. So far, I got 250 donors, 1750 more to go–each donor spot represents $25.

Who was the other coaches that replaced Legi Suianoa at DL coach? Cory Batoon will be the special teams coach. Former Hawai’i man. How do you know the coaches is the missing component to their defensive woes? Truthfully.
Is this from the UH funds or did the bank set it up just for UH and the HTA bylaws on the Hawai’i Bowl every year?
1. Promote tourist spending 2. Media coverage 3. Promote good will relations in Hawai’i.
And your part to UH athletics is…
They use tuitions and fees for building and maintenance cost, for lower and upper campus dormitory rooms. Through loans and grants.
Players and coaches
I cannot see how a suburban resident can pay off the loans for their son/daughter, playing at UH. All I see is claiming chapter 11, bankruptcy on a personal basis. At the bank and court rooms. The player after four years of playing sports will have no means to repay the loans.
Alohilani Waikiki Resort is hiring for banquet captains, for the banquet functions. Maybe the football players can apply for a job if they need more income and not file for chapter 11. This being after their sports career is over.
Logical
I don’t want to support UH athletics by donations. Find your own funds yourselves.
A lot of people feel this way.
Either stop taking drugs, or listen to the nurses and take your medication.

Batoon is the DC not special teams coach.
our opening day opponent …
Navy defensive line coach Shaun Nua
will coach the defensive line at Arizona State,
according to Sun Devil Source.

Koh I Nor or whatever, you can’t file bankruptcy for student loans unless you’re a friend of the President then you don’t need to pay anything back.
#20 I’ll take it!!!
I wasn’t aware of this story regarding SDSU. Sign of the times?

I am hoping for improvements in the offense even if we do not hire a new coordinator. With new bodies on the OLine and St. Juste gone, it will take time to develop a running game. Hopefully we can add some to the passing game because we will need it as the running game develops.
Regarding student loans and financing college– this is a real problem for all of us. If you have two kids going to UH, the cost is about $21,000 or more per year. With cost of living in Hawaii– housing for example, UH is unaffordable (community college is an alternative) for many. Talking with some people who are using the HELOC on their homes to pay for college for kids and grandkids (tough for grandparents old enough to have grandkids going to college to borrow against their home with a HELOC that is due in a few years instead of covering their retirement and medical costs).
Kor I Noa, this post is not for UH Haters. You must be an old BYU fan or a current UNLV fan or; a disgruntled walk on who is a legend in his own mind. Nobody wants to read about your hate, take it elsewhere.
It’s too bad we couldn’t poach an ex player like this—Kim McCloud to coach receivers who is at Syracuse. Not going to happen, but one can wish…
Great Morning All!
Hoping the Coaching Staff left with a solid plan in place for the convention.
Attending classes; meet and greets; impromptu interviews (both ways)…lots to keep track of.
I can only hope that Rolo had his “shopping list” well-defined prior to departure.
The tricky part is always coming home with more than you left with… 😯 😈
Here’s why the offensive side of the team really needs help – Brian Smith is overloaded. I mean severely overloaded. His responsibilities are Associate Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, coach for running backs and tight ends. And for part of last season, he took over the O-line when Chris Naeole left. That’s work for three coaches. Rolo really has his work cut out in having to right the coaching imbalance on offense.
Coach Class: “This is an X.
And this is an O. This is Dick.
Run Dick, Run!”
S:
based on your introduction to your “post” — OC is NOT mentioned therefore same OC?
if so, I do not see any improvement to play calling for 2018 and this could lead to another losing season — play calling needs a ‘strategic’ mind set
I THINK THAT O-LINE MEN SHOULD NEVER CALL PLAYS .THEY NEVER PLAY ENY SKILL POSITIONS, SO THEY DON’T SEE OR REALY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.
A house…some things are better not to be disclosed, although, if you follow the bouncing ball the offensive will be revamped towards the more wide open style as was during the last few games. Quite often it was Rolo who took over the play calling. Those two should suggest to you or anyone else that this is the direction we are headed towards.
The incumbent will land on his feet somewhere.
While there are 3 more coaching slots, I am thinking that the new dc will have at least one or two more select choices for his staff that could mean more positions to fill.
Remember assistant coaches typically have a one year contract. That is why there are so many openings everywhere.
