Cal Poly at UC Irvine before match with Hawaii. Mustangs on a 14-match winning streak
Friday’s match with the Wahine is just the fifth home match for Poly
Wahine leave Wednesday. Staying home are Sibley, Okino, Gong
They are opting to take all four middles. Asked Ah Mow-Santos about Howling on the right. She said that since Howling had played some right in club that they would look at it, as they did late Saturday. that was a combination of Sibley being out (concussion protocol) and Koelsch struggling
SandBows opened their official fall practice today. Was supposed to be yesterday but it got rained out. There was lightning as well. Couldn’t make it today as it conflicted with indoor but will go tomorrow.
Warriors will be in California next week for a couple of fall matches. Wade just returned from Europe. Will get the schedule from him tomorrow. Was told Tuileta will be with volleyball since he isn’t traveling with football.
Anteaters hold off one match point, not a second
Cal Poly wins 25-22, 25-20, 25-23
Too bad for Sibley. Have all the fate in Kendra though. Just having a rough patch. Totally agree about Granato needed to carry load. She is a warrior and has no problem being the WO-MAN
Can anyone tell me how to view the UH/Cal Poly match on 27 Oct either on TV or Internet. I tried Big West TV, but it is “Blacked Out” to Hawaii and recommended http://www.myspectrumsports.com, but its schedule for 27 Oct does not list the UH/Cal Poly match. Help!
Well Cal Poly controls their destiny. They beat 2 top Big West opponents at their home courts. They didn’t take as many sets to defeat other teams Hawaii beat. Shoots!!
What can you say. Hawaii just needs to win their 2 last road games and win their last 2 at home and pray for the At-large…
But again, some strange things could happen from now to then…
Sorry big boo boo! I forgot Hawaii finishes on the road after next week.
So Hawaii needs to win at Cal Poly and Santa Barbara on the road this week then come home to beat Northridge and Long Beach…then go back on road to beat UC Davis and UC Irvine for the finale…then pray that Cal Poly gets uoset by someone very soon or we receive an At-Large Bid. Sorry!
Damn, Cal Poly looked really good tonight…Add the fact that Adlee is a Jr. and Torrey a So., and it looks like the Big West might be theres to lose these next couple years. In fact the whole Cal Poly roster has only two seniors.
Oh well, hope we can pull the upset Friday. Go ‘Bows!
step 1, eliminate the red eye especially it being caused by design
step 2, crush the coconut
step 3, dominate, crush and destroy
go bows!
Cal Poly loses Nelson, Neumann and Greisen (all seniors).
6. Exactly! Cindy, do we know when the team leaves?
If the team beats CalPoly on Friday, I don’t think anyone will stand in their way to run the table in conference. Hopefully, they will
Continue to play the way they know they can.
This team has heart. Don’t count them out yet.
Yikes- they might catch a red eye!? I tried the red eye a couple of times to LA and was not able to sleep more than a half hour or so each time. I’d be so wasted at work the next couple of days that I just gave it up and started taking earlier flights. And even if you’re the type that can fall asleep pretty quickly on planes, you’d only get around 3-1/2 hours sleep at best. Some people can bounce back in one night, but sleep studies have shown that most people cannot.
Cal Poly was able to beat Irvine in three close sets because Irvine (as well as Cal Poly) only had three blocks for the entire match. Hawaii, a better blocking team has its chances against Cal Poly with better serving and passing. My question is: on a head to head tie-breaker, if UH wins in less than five sets, would UH have the advantage?
7. Thanks for the correction, yes 3 seniors not two. Unfortunately for us, none of them named Van Winden. Heres to hoping we can shut them down in at least 3 of the 5 sets on Friday.
This is exactly what Hawaii & the Big West needs; competitiveness the likes of Cal Poly. It will open up opportunity for more at-large births, and have the teams battle-tested for the NCAA Championships. Long Beach should also challenge next year continent on all their injured players heal in time for 2018.
Halloween coming soon. Will we hear Screaming Niemen again? That act failed to show against Irvine.
9. i hope not. red eyes obviously more than once was scary on a halloween and since it twice happened we know it wasnt coincidence but it was done by design, so whoever did that needs to be fired
I watched the Penn St – Wisconsin match yesterday. They play a different game from the Big West.
H-Man How is their game different?
I know it was mentioned that she was here on a recruiting visit… but it looks like she has made her commitment.

Wagoner/castaneda/oglivie/sounds like a great pin hitter rotation that can get the wahine back to the sweet sixteen and maybe beyond.
Think we need at least one tall effective OH to assure a great pin rotation. What do you all think? However, if additionally we sign Oglivie, that would indeed be a great start. Plus, we need sign a setter.
6 ft, 5’11 and 6’1 is big enough especially since Oglivie’s passing is top notch and Wagoner seems like a great passer also, junior olympic open mvp is nothing to sneeze at.
At setter I wonder if Coach Robyn will recruit gus/Josh Tuaniga’s little sister.
Is Oglivie saying she coming to UH or just wishful thinking?
Has Oglivie verbally committed yet, or shown any interest at all? I don’t understand all the speculation here, I tried searching and could not find any talk of her committment from her. Please fill me in if you have sources to confirm Oglivie’s intent to play here. That would be soo awesome if she did commit, but until then I assume its speculation.
21. damn, funny we posted similar posts at the exact same time lol
Ha ha. I don’t remember reading that she verbally committed so I was just thinking the same thing. Have to go with what we know lol
21& 22. Oglivie is only a sophomore. Isn’t it too early for her to commit anywhere? She must feel as if there were a tug of war by the fans trying to reel her in one their side.
By the way, great article on Friday’s SA by Cindy Luis on the expected showdown with Cal Poly. Sounds like both sides are eagerly spoiling for a fight. As a Cal Poly alumnae who had watched the two mothers of three current players play on home court back in the mid-eighties (Kelly Strand van Winden and Vera Pendergast Nelson), I ‘ll be eagerly watching this match online and will be happy for either team that wins. Looking forward to an epic battle.
Don’t think Oglive has been offered by Hawaii yet. She holds a ton of offers with most for the libero position from what I understand.

new thread up for Friday
couple of things
as for the flight … not like they were going to play Thursday after leaving Wednesday
Players can orally commit but nothing binding until they sign NLIs senior year.
