I am in full support of the retirement event for Dave Shoji, as well as his scholarship program. However, the ticket prices are high and may ice out a lot of fans such as families, children, students and people on fixed incomes who want to attend the celebration but cannot afford the price of either ticket. I already know two people who are disappointed they won’t be able to attend the event due to the high prices. The upper bowl of the arena should be available for free seating, or at most a nominal charge, so we can pack the arena and give Dave the best possible retirement celebration! A new ticket pricing structure needs to be implemented immediately in order to open the doors to as many people as possible!!!

hi Cindy, is Coach Wade expected to sign any one this signing period?

  3. Cindy Luis April 14, 2017 3:27 pm

    1. I have passed on your concerns to AD Matlin.

    2. only 1 signee, last fall, Gage Worsley.

    Ozee-Zalopany win at %, 21-19, 21-13

Have a feeling this will be the last season of crossover players. Hall is recruiting top talent to the beach team. Mags is a senior to be indoors and Taylor is done. Thinking that Coach Hall will become full time beach.

  6. Warriorfan April 14, 2017 4:54 pm

    5. have to disagree I don’t see Smith and Sibley giving up beach and future recruits like Oglivie.

  7. Cindy Luis April 14, 2017 5:16 pm

    6. agree with you. for one thing Maglio has two more seasons for sand purposes, if she chooses to use them. Many have believed that she will be on the Canadian Beach team for the Olympics, possibly in 2020.

    5. Wong and Hall both recruited beach-only talent. They supplemented with indoor players. That was always the idea. There may be fewer indoor crossing over but doesn’t mean they won’t be doing beach training as part of spring conditioning.

don’t know when/if that full-time beach job will happen. Matlin says he’s working on it but needs to find the money.

Schucht-Tayler and Tucker-Martin both rally to win in 3.

#1 You and your friends do realize that college athletics operate with money? This is a good excuse to help raise some funds, and the food etc provided probably isn’t free! Your friends should have come to Ruby Tuesday for his final Call the Coach. I was surprised how small the crowd was! He spoke to each person in attendance, posed for pictures and gave autographs. Wouldn’t have cost ’em a thing!

And I was actually expecting this to be one of those $100 ticket events, so I’m really excited it’s only $42!

  12. rabbit ears April 14, 2017 7:28 pm

I remember Mags saying she wants to play Pro ball indoors. So I doubt she will stick around for sand, especially with no vet school in Hawaii.

  13. warriorfan April 14, 2017 7:51 pm

I can see Mags sticking around to win a national championship, unless Hawaii wins it this season , or next.
She knows the more beach she plays the better chances of being an olympian for Canada. Chances of Canada ever qualifying for indoors olympics are slim.

    3. Thanks I noticed BYU signed a brazilian middle blocker today, and was wondering if Wade was going to do something similar to replace Hendrik, Jennings or Kupono.

  15. rayson April 14, 2017 8:13 pm

    2. Gage is our only official recruit but that didn’t mean no one else is coming. Someone posted on Volleytalk a week or so ago that Coach Wade was working on getting another Foreign player, an OH, and a Jr. College transfer, a MB who originally committed to UCI.

  16. rabbit ears April 14, 2017 8:53 pm

Hope Charlie is asking the international recruits if they got sisters that play volleyball and are 6-5″.

  17. Warriorfan April 14, 2017 9:01 pm

    16. Hear hear, also cousins, neighbors/ class mates lol
Gimmilaro at Long beach just signed 3 foreign players , hoping they aren’t beasts lol

I just saw huntington beach play Iolani thanks to Punahou live stream and James Anastassiades little brother looked pretty good and about 6’8 tall too bad he picked Long Beach state instead of UH.

Can somebody tell me why “Order of finish” is always included in the final stats/box? What is its significance or why does it matter? I don’t know much about beach VB and its gameplay, but I assumed that they play the lower lights first. So unless some of the games went to 3 sets, for the most part Order of finish would be 5,4,3,2,1 or something close to it? If somebody can shed some light there. Thanks.

    new thread up for Saturday
    18. Order of finish lets you know when match was clinched.
Not necessarily. sometimes places have five courts going at once.
As for recruits, Gage W. was the only official signee. UH has tons of redshirts.
He may bring in another foreigner.
Anastassiadis committed over a year ago. James was bummed.
