Dual possibilities

Tui Tuileta and Isaac Liva at UH this morning
Tui Tuileta and Isaac Liva at UH this morning

Libero Larry “Tui” Tuileta and outside hitter Isaac Liva are focused on the volleyball Warriors quest for a national title.

But they still have not ruled out a return to a double life — and sports. As we all know, Tuileta was a standout Punahou quarterback who redshirted with the USC football team in 2014. Quarterbacks Aaron Zwahlen and Beau Reilly transferred after the 2016 season.

Liva, who redshirted with the football Warriors in 2016, is a late-bloomer to the sport, amassing seven sacks in his only football season at Mililani in 2015. He is considered a promising defensive end for the Warriors. But he missed fall volleyball training while practicing with the football team, and he missed the recent spring football training because of volleyball season.

    1st?

    Howzit Tsaikos!

I’d rather they both concentrate on volleyball. Charlie Wade thinks Tui has potential to play at the next level as a libero. He’ll be challenged next year by Gage Worsley (Joe’s little brother).

ST – is Isaac on scholarship? Sounds like he’s a walk-on for both sports. He says he’s still undecided.

    GO WARRIORS!

Would have been interesting if Larry participated in spring football drills/practice, especially since none of the other quarterbacks were able to close the gap with Dru. Main thing is for Larry to be happy with himself just playing volleyball. Same for Isaac. Missing spring practice puts him way down the depth chart in the fall.

Tui is a power 5 level football player and a natural born leader who would undoubtedly help the football program if he wished to do so. He is also a Shoji class libero and will go far in volleyball if he choses that route. No matter what he does, he is fun to watch.

I can easily see Tui on the national team for volleyball one day. He is special in that sport. Time for him to concentrate on being the best he can be which means giving something up. If it’s football he really cares about then he needs to just concentrate on that just to give himself a chance to get on the practice field. Even then he has been away from the sport for a long time already.

    Tui’s a natural leader.
Right now, he’s not receiving any athletic aid, which would allow him to also walk on in football.
I hope he joins football. He would be a great addition. If not, he deserves some volleyball money.

Both guys should concentrate on volleyball, where they have a future. IMHO, I think Liva’s future in Football is probably better than Tuileta, but…why mess with being successful in VB. Like one of the posters said, just be HAPPY with whatever choices you make and live it to the fullest.

This is a really good volleyball team. Of all the UH teams, this one has the best chance of winning the next national championship. Charlie is doing a good job.

I say stick with VB. Yep, they have a good chance for the National title.

On another note, keep in mind that Tui turned his back on a FB scholarship

at UH, to walk on at usc. Which, to no surprise, caused some hard feelings

    with the previous coaching staff.

Good volleyball team, but they haven’t beaten LBSU and BYU yet this season.

  12. tarai March 31, 2017 4:56 pm

I think Liva has a bigger future in football. The volleyball team is loaded with hitters.

    I don’t have a Twitter account.

    6-0 against teams 101-200.

Hawaii still has no bad losses.

  16. cappie the dog March 31, 2017 9:32 pm

    I mean 200+.

Sacred Heart is in the 101-200 range.

One loss against Nevada and they will plummet from low-to-middle eighties to one-hundred-plus.

NC State is dragging Hawaii down. The Wolfpack will probably blame the Hawaii trip for their disappointing season.

Is Kendall Smith, Q’s brother, transferring to UH to play as a grad student next year?

  18. Maddog50 April 1, 2017 2:31 am

Ok so Bb 2-0 to the Wolfpack only two to go! Coach Rolovich is certainly original and here is to his efforts to get that stadium filled-great PR move-hope all his future efforts gets the whole island buzzin and tickets flying out the door!
