Whoops. Did somebody forget to post today? My bad.
> Quarterback Dru Brown said it was the best offensive practice of the season. I take his word. Much has been made between the gap between Brown and the potential No. 2 quarterbacks. But Brown has really seized a leadership, he’s earned his teammates’ ears and he’s really improved as a signal-caller.
> The injuries on the offensive line not only have opened the way for Matt Norman and Kingjames Taylor to expand their reps, they also have allowed 6-8, 310-pound Austin Webb to show his improvement. Webb has not played a down in a game in his two UH seasons. But he’s reshaped his body and appears nimbler. The competition will heat up this summer when Allen is fully healthy and three recruits join.
> Safeties Keala Santiago and Austin Gerard have played well this season, Daniel Lewis has made a complete recovery from a sports hernia, and Trayvon Henderson should be ready this summer. A big surprise has been Jay Dominique, the Montreal-raised defensive back who had played on the wider Canadian field in high school. Dominique made the move from corner in the second week of spring ball. Also, Kalen Hicks, a steal from Bishop Gorman a year ago, is recovering nicely from last year’s knee surgery.
> Man vs. machine? Stan Gaudion’s punts are giving punt returners a better look than the JUGS machine that is sometimes used to launch footballs during special-team drills.
> Defensive end Max Hendrie is expected to receive full medical clearance in another month. The thing is, spring ball ends next week. Hendrie underwent surgery for a torn pec in November.
When r u going to mention other football playerd then the same ole players dady after day week after week. I know ypu have ypur favorate however it to the extreme… jus sayin…

Anxious to see this Saturday’s scrimmage to see who has improved over the past two weeks. I think for one, Matt Norman is solid at right tackle. On defense I want to see how Kalepo Naotala is coming along.

I like hearing about Dru’s continued development. Gone are the days of the QB as game manager. QBs need to make plays in the “modern” schemes.
Brendan Hornung deserves better.
He is the ace.
I bet he is the only strikeout pitcher among the nation’s leaders who doesn’t throw in the low-to-mid-to-high nineties.
He is Billy Blanchette with an out pitch. Blanchette could just locate…like heck.
Stop fooling around and pitch Hornung out of the gate.
I’d also like to see an alternate fourth starter, so Rees can get used to pitching long relief, when the Big West season starts.
I think Uskali has cemented himself as the third starter.
Against San Jose State and Nevada, I think Hawaii can get by with, perhaps, Matt Richardson pitching fourth. Martin is not suited for the bullpen, maybe he’ll fare better as a starter.
Way to go, Cabrales!
Two more guys trying to scratch their way to contributing Webb and Smith-Bejgrowitz. Have wondered since he arrived if Webb could ever get there, but one thing stands out he always seems to be in pictures with teammates at various events. From what I can tell he appears to be a good teammate and he is pressing to climb up the ladder-Good for both of them. Go Warriors!
Saturday is the “Football Festivus”. I am so envious of those that can attend-Coach Rolovich is doing so many things right for this program I sure hope he is rewarded with a great turnout. Nothing short of brilliant to have Governor involved. Here is hoping several thousand show up – heard that over 100 former players have RSVP’d. Gonna have to enjoy the photos and write up-so jealous!!!! GoWarriors!!!

I put the blame for last night loss on Trapasso. He left Hornung in too long. Hornung was over 100 pitches in the 8th inning, 99 when he started the inning. With so much left in the season, why overwork a pitcher when you desperately need him in the conference to finish the season strong. After 113 pitches he was removed, giving up 2 runs in the inning and tying the game at 3-3. This is something Trapasso has done many many times before, leaving a pitcher in too long and it cost the team again. That’s why I refuse to see the game at Les Murakami stadium. I just stay home and watch and go to bed. It’s too frustrating.
But, I feel for the team. They deserve better. Why do you think the once long time UH baseball fans are not going to the ball park anymore. Some pass away, others I submit (like me) are just tired to all the accumulated losses and are just no longer excited about the product as it once were. We still pull for UH baseball, but with Trapasso getting another year extention I have to question Matlin’s decision on that one. However, Matlin’s hire of Coach Ganot and Coach Rolovich were on the money. Coach Nagamine is a nice lady I’m sure, but her record as a coach is terrible. Just my opinion.

#13 Derek, you put into words what I was thinking last night watching the game on TV. Hornung was hanging his pitches late in the 6th inning. When they showed the righty & lefty warming up, thought OK relief coming in for the 7th. Hornung did not look quite like he did vs Sacred Hearts. Well, now we know what happened with that almost 400 ft home run blast by Indiana’s clean up batter.
The team is young and has looked good. Wondering what Marlin will do if the team fades and is not competitive in the league play coming up. Rainbows have not been competitive for the last 3 seasons when it counts. Still can recall not missing a home game when Tats was pitching, man the stands were packed!

Bows baseball plays in a tough Big West and also a tough non-conference schedule, If Trap had a weaker Big West like women’s volleyball has and a less tough non-conference schedule like sometimes men’s basketball plays, then you would have more baseball wins.

Hope it’s just a little fatigue and nothing more.
I used to be a solid supporter of UH baseball and have attended about 75% of their games in the past few years. So far I have only attended one. I am very disappointed that Trap got an extension and cancelled my season ticket. I have lost interest in this team already. I don’t even think about going even when I’m off and have no plans.
From what I read in the paper and online, this is the same old stuff year after year. This team is really not “fun to watch”.
I think Matlin is going to give Trap another 3 year extension after the 1 year extension.
I went to the baseball game last night and I left at the top of the 6th inning with UH leading Indiana. The game experience seems so much different. I was falling asleep.
Hawaii Baseball is not what it used to be. At least I only paid $5 for my tickets.

808 — I have a conspiracy theory…however wild. Matlin requested the Star-Advertiser to assign ST the UH baseball beat. Baseball is a major revenue sport and interest might be waning, so ST can highlight the players and the program, just as he does for football. Whether coaching changes are coming or not, I find his stories giving insight and personality to the program again…we cheer for the players as much as the game.
#21 Islandman, it is what it is, regardless of the caliber of teams in the Big West baseball, bottom line is you have to win! If Trepasso hasn’t been competitive in league play, going below .500 for the past 3 seqsons, what would you do if this 2017 he makes it 4 in row floundering?
Willie: To be fair, Hawaii finished 12-12 the past two BW seasons, finishing 5th in 2015 and tying for 4th last year. Think they have some young, decent talent this year. We’ll see come conference season.
Unfortunately, Hawaii Rainbow baseball team looks like they are on their way to another .500 season.
It seems the team would have stretches of success and then they fall into a losing streak.
I still hope by conference play, the team can put together a string of wins and make it over .500 for the conference and maybe the season.

This made me smile.
As you know, Megan Huff’s defection to the Utah Utes killed Hawaii’s season.
My goodness, it must have been hard for the Delaware transfer to play under the considerable shadow of Elena Della-Donne. But even Big West basketball seemed to have proved an uphill battle for the 6’3″ center. There is always next season. But for now, she is on par with Rebecca Dew.
My theory as to why Huff left: Huff couldn’t figure out why she was backing up her volleyball teammate, whose only attribute was being tall. And when she saw that Coach Beeman recruited another center, she pulled a Shamberger(who was upset when Coach Arnold signed up Rodrick Bobbitt) and worried about playing time.
My main takeaway from watching Huff was that her missed shots didn’t airball, or hit the side of the backboard.
At women/men doubleheaders, I hear incredulous grumblings from people who obviously are not used to low mid-major women’s basketball.
This is not the Golden State Warriors, and that’s fine with me.
Anyway, the point of this long, rambling post is that UC-Davis upset Utah on Utah’s home court.
I’ll be rooting for Huff next year because I’m too old to be rooting against student-athletes. Even the narcissistic Issac Fleming, who is under the delusion that he is playing in a major conference.
Logan Poulssen needs to be the every day DH.
I could never understand why it took Coach Trapasso so long to realize that Sean Montplaisir should be in his starting lineup.
Less than an hour before ST misses a new blog entry for a new day.
Last time he did that was on June 15, 2016…citing multiple bypass heart surgery. 🙁

I think the blog is not active enough to support having a daily new thread. A new thread every other day seems to match the activity level.
