Visiting hours are open

Yep, visiting hours are now open for the Warriors.

With the dead period’s expiration at 11:59 last night, the Warriors are free to host and visit recruits through Jan. 29.

This weekend, seven or eight recruits are expected to take official UH visits.

Then on Sunday afternoon, the coaches will hit the road to recruit locally and on the mainland.

Hoping OT Brandon Kipper is among those visiting this weekend. For a big man (6-6/280), he moves like an outside linebacker.

    Howzit Tsaikos!

This might be a stupid question, but here goes. Does each sport have different official recruiting calendars, including dead periods, or are they all the same?

  3. al January 12, 2017 10:13 am

    No question is stupid.

    Yes different for all.

  4. mileHIwarrior January 12, 2017 10:43 am

Football recruiting is the only one people really care about but yes, every sport is different.

  5. kanak January 12, 2017 11:11 am

Fingers crossed that last season’s success equates to top local recruits staying and primary target mainland recruits consider us… Go Bows!

Coming off a bowl win and 2 good all star games filled with talent from Hawaii, Samoa, and Nor cal this weekend, Hawaii needs to capitalize on a big recruiting weekend. Staff saves a bunch of money by not having to fly all these kids in.

JMsomethingsomethingssomething, great question. My akamai friend Kapakahi told me the dead period allows teams in bowl games to not be at a disadvantage.

But to me, if you are in the National title game, you don’t need help from the NCAA from allowing others to poach your prospects

Just saw the UH baseball schedule.
ST will go into 2-a-days throughout football spring practice (Feb 20-Mar 24) 🙁
Football field in the morning and Les Murakami stadium baseball games in the afternoon:

Feb 23 San Francisco 6:35 pm
Feb 24 San Francisco 6:35 pm
Feb 24 San Francisco 1:05 pm
Feb 24 San Francisco 1:05 pm
Mar 09 Sacred Heart 6:35 pm
Mar 10 Sacred Heart 6:35 pm
Mar 11 Sacred Heart 6:35 pm
Mar 12 Sacred Heart 1:05 pm (Sunday)
    Mar 15 Indiana 6:35 pm
    Mar 16 Indiana 6:35 pm
    Mar 17 Indiana 6:35 pm
    Mar 18 Indiana 1:05 pm
Mar 23 San Jose 6:35 pm
Mar 24 San Jose 6:35 pm

Hmmm… 15 (?) football practice dates and 13 baseball home dates not on a Sunday.

perhaps not so surprising that the NCAA will take it’s time ” vetting ” Holie (sp) from Australia, but let North Carolina get off free for their academic scandal that many, many basketball and other athletes supposedly took for a phantom class that existed for over 20 years

yet, the NCAA will punish schools for their low APRs — does all of this make sense??? not to me!!

  13. snowmantoo January 12, 2017 3:32 pm

You’re right, A-House, it’s not football so please keep it off this blog. The SA has plenty enough articles on that matter if you wish to comment under those. Thank you. Let’s keep this one football!

I wonder when the Stadium Authority (and UH) will ask season ticket holders what they are looking for in a new stadium. I wonder what was wrong with the last study they funded. This new one sounds pretty much the same (smaller), but without the explicit pitches for mostly bench seating with luxury boxes. But then that may be what “would create a more intimate environment significantly improving the fan experience, reduce operating costs and facilitate an efficient and more economical design.” means. I hope UH chooses to reach out to season ticket holders, and considers the long term ramifications of having a 30,000 – 35,000 seat football stadium. … http://www.staradvertiser.com/2017/01/12/sports/sports-breaking/aloha-stadium-authority-proposing-new-smaller-stadium/

  19. H-Man January 12, 2017 10:29 pm

UH has no say in the building of a new stadium, the Stadium Authority does. They will serve as the vehicle to promote a master plan concept for the redevelopment of this property. A plan that will focus on developing a new shopping complex with condos and perhaps a small hotel. That’s why they are zeroing in on a smaller stadium because they need the property to pursue the development this shopping-visitor complex that will tie into the rail. This concept has already been pitched.

  20. oneseason January 13, 2017 6:22 am

#20 … I agree with you on what is happening, I am just saying the approach seems unwise and UH should have a say in the planning of a new football stadium. If the stadium is to be a relatively minor player in a broad community redevelopment effort, I don’t understand why the Stadium Authority would take the lead. It seems like the new stadium is just an excuse for a big development project. But the new stadium is the reason for the project. And while pursuing a planning strategy that doesn’t engage the primary user is probably not unique, I don’t think it provides a high probability of success.

  21. burro sabio January 13, 2017 7:00 am

Building a new stadium is a means, not an end.

  22. PONO January 13, 2017 7:34 am

I’m sure the stadium authority has the numbers but I would like to see the total number of events that are held at the stadium each year excluding the swap meet. It seems like there are very little events outside of UH and high school football games. With that said we need to accommodate UH more than the rest of the events. Concerts are rarely held there and there are the occasional band competition and graduation ceremony. Once in a blue moon we get the national soccer team to come or some bigger sports event.

  23. Akamai Okole January 13, 2017 7:40 am

    Great Morning All!

We love the sport but at what point does the damage outweigh the “sportiness”? 🙁

  24. What??? January 13, 2017 8:22 am

A-Howuse, wai yu gots 2 bring my grammy into this? Anser da ? – hoo iz “Holie”???

  25. H-Man January 13, 2017 9:26 am

    Oneseason, very well said.

  26. Da Punchbowl Kid January 13, 2017 11:02 am

Where ever the stadium is built for what ever costs, if the UH Football team plays there, proceeds from concessions and UH gear sales should go to the Warriors program.

Please, include UH in the planning and the proceeds from all components of development there.
