The NCAA’s dead period for recruiting runs through tomorrow, which, not so coincidentally, is when the American Football Coaches Association’s annual convention concludes.
A UH group, led by Nick Rolovich, is attending the seminars in Nashville. The group returns to Honolulu tomorrow.
The UH coaches are preparing for this weekend’s visiting recruits. This is the first of three consecutive recruiting weekends leading to the Feb. 1 signing day.

Just heard a guy on the radio say Tua is better then Aaron Rodgers at this point and he expects Tua to start sometime next season. Go get it Tua!!!!!!!
I love recruiting season.
Given the dramatic improvements we’ve seen on the field last season, it’s going to be very interesting to see how well this group of coaches can recruit. And, this time they won’t be new coaches playing catch up, as they were last year. With a full year to work out recruiting plans I’m thinking they’re going to be quite successful.
My wife and I had a chance to chat with Coach Rolo at the volleyball game last Friday. If my son were playing at this level, I’d want Rolo to be his coach.

A-House, a small token of Chicago Aloha. So the Coachs convention is in Nashville-was there this past summer. Bars, Billy’s and boots sums it up. No offense intended as I am a “southside johnny” in these parts! Bachelorette Party Capital of the US. Went to the Johnny Cash Museum and it is really something else. Dont have to be a fan of his music but there is always a crowd or line to get in-
If Tua was a Warrior I’d be interested. I wish him well but, meh, he’s a tide….so low tide on my interest meter. Don’t really roll that way.
But I am REALLY interested in the upcoming Warrior announcements!!! #hanapa’a!!! #beawarrior!!!

Haoa, regarding previous post on summer basketball – the only UH players that played this past summer were Thomas for one game and Gibson for 3.
I have respect for our Men’s Basketball program but this year is just a tough, no talent year. The quality of players is not at the level for a Div 1 team. HPU would beat this team at UH. I hope Ganot and his coaches will get the chance to improve on the quality of players in the future once the sanctions are lifted. I don’t expect this team to win more than two games the rest of the year.
Hopefully a handful of the players on this years MBB will either transfer or not be retained, because not much talent, size, shooting, or ball handling on this current team. It will be a rough ride if Ganot is stuck with this bunch for 4 years and can’t bring in any real talent.
Sometimes I wonder what this weird process is that seems to afflict our sports programs. We rise up and reach success (as the football team did in 2006 and 2007) but once there we seem to begin a long and painful slide. It feels similar with the basketball team. I know there is an obvious external source of problems for MBB (NCAA) but what is happening to the men’s basketball team has a strangely familiar feel. It’s feel like they are now on a process of decline without an end in sight.

When Larry Little took over the team after Bruce O’Neil was fired and UH hobbled with NCAA sanctions, his team went 8-19. The following year, his team went 1-26. Under similar situation, Ganot went 28-6 his first year, and so far his second year, he is 6-9. You ask me, he is doing just great. Larry Little went on to coach UH for nine seasons.
Benjy Taylor should have been our coach.
He also would do well in the NBA.
Hope he is doing ok staying in Hawaii to help his kids.

Taylor found the situation in Manoa was not ideal. “We had four ADs in five seasons and with the same middle management.There are 350 other division 1 schools, it would never happen.”

Anyhoo, is the NCAA still trying to decide an appropriate penalty for the MBB? They say it (penalties) was not appropriate then leave the program hanging with inappropriate penalties still in place. They have damaged the program with inappropriate action and won’t amend it in a timely fashion.
Waiting recruiting news is like waiting to go to the dentist to pull a rotten teeth.
