Game day: Air Force

af-stadium
COLORADO SPRINGS — The Warriors play their fifth road game of the season when they face America’s Team today at Falcon Stadium.

> How will the Warriors respond to the high altitude, where it is difficult to catch your breath and stay hydrated? The ball also sails longer. It could be fun day for kicker/punter Rigo Sanchez.

> How will the Warriors respond to the Falcons’ multi-faceted offense? The Falcons are no longer just a triple-option team. Despite running nearly 80 percent, they lead the nation in yards per catch.

> Can the Warriors match the Falcons’ discipline? They have worked on ball security, pass catching and play identification in this week’s practices.

    Guid mornin.

    RIP Dee Dowis.

    Let’s get a win, Warriors.

  2. clyde October 22, 2016 5:18 am

Interesting to note that on the Air Force starting lineups 17 of the 22 are seniors, and the other five are juniors. Talk about experience.

  3. Bugaz October 22, 2016 5:42 am

Best of luck to our beloved Warriors. Go get um boys!!!!

  4. RatMin October 22, 2016 5:42 am

    THIRD!
    Let’s Go Warriors!
    Play hard & play smart.

  5. RatMin October 22, 2016 5:43 am

    Rats! I was actually fourth.

  6. cocobean October 22, 2016 6:14 am

The Warriors have a good chance if they match Air Force’s intensity and want to. The offense is capable of outscoring them if they cut down on their self inflicted stops. The defense has got to win most of the time on third downs. It would be nice if they can get into a hitting frenzy like the first two home league games. When the defense plays with that kind of frenzy it mitigates some of the missed tackles and missed assignment.

  7. Akamai Okole October 22, 2016 6:38 am

  11. 808 warriors October 22, 2016 8:26 am

Yikes, AF just scored and ate a lot of clock

  12. Buffoman October 22, 2016 8:26 am

AIR force offense vs Hawaii defense on first series: like a hot knife through butter. Right down the field.

  13. Warrior Dave October 22, 2016 8:27 am

D got to step up. 1st AF drive too easy, especially in the outside.

  14. 808 warriors October 22, 2016 8:29 am

Linebackers need to get off their blocks

  16. 808 warriors October 22, 2016 8:32 am

Gotta be kidding, just when we have the momentum. Glad it was not a pick six.

  17. Buffoman October 22, 2016 8:32 am

Interception thrown by Dru. If we repeat our defensive effort, it may be a very long day.

  18. Buffoman October 22, 2016 8:36 am

Great stop! We can run on them it seems with Harris. Should run until they can show that they can stop it. Harris is so smooth as a runner.

  19. 808 warriors October 22, 2016 8:36 am

Defense better the next series. Alright bows let’s get a score.

  20. Daniel October 22, 2016 8:47 am

I just felt that I needed to vent. Hawaii’s defense is terrible, period.

  21. z October 22, 2016 8:48 am

Can’t blame defense so far. Offense no t helping at all. I see our defense disappearing in the 4th quarter if this keeps up.

  22. Rodney October 22, 2016 9:16 am

    Bobby Bobby you are getting
    worse each game!!
So fustrating, let John V talk.

  23. Buffoman October 22, 2016 9:27 am

Air Force just needs to pass to whoever our #18 is covering. The you g man will commit a hold. He’s being forced into action but still needs to be more disciplined.

  24. 3-Prong October 22, 2016 9:32 am

    Go Bows!

  25. oneseason October 22, 2016 9:32 am

Great to see both the Hawaii offense and defense playing well and being competitive.

  26. Ronnie October 22, 2016 9:36 am

I like that AF plays Rush in the stadium. 🙂

  27. Chop October 22, 2016 9:37 am

Hawaii leads at the half 10 – 7

  28. z October 22, 2016 9:38 am

Look for air force to go to the air in the second half. Their receivers are open. They just have not been able to connect so far.

  29. Buffoman October 22, 2016 9:44 am

The team has made improvements in all areas since that first series. The defense has been doing a very good job against the run. The AFA has not had success passing but the two defensive holding penalties against our young #18 kept plays alive for them. Nice thing, no scores for AFA in spite of the penalties.

Hopefully we can keep the effort and intensity in the second half. It does appear that the altitude has not hurt the team’s performance.

Great effort by the entire team.

  30. Kapahulu October 22, 2016 9:47 am

    Halftime:
    Hawaii 10
    Air force 7

  31. cocobean October 22, 2016 9:57 am

So far so good. I hope the defense has enough gas left in the tank. The offense is not really sharp and can only get better. I was hoping UH came out passing to set up the run but expected better results.

  33. Warrior Dave October 22, 2016 10:04 am

Come on offense. Let’s do it!!

  34. Buffoman October 22, 2016 10:28 am

Either the other receivers are not breaking free or Dru is doing the “Ikaika” and is only looking for Kemp. Team came out a bit flat.

    Altitude effect?

  35. H-Man October 22, 2016 10:32 am

Warriors’ run game is just not productive enough. Okay, fumble. Are we going to see Lakalaka?

  36. H-Man October 22, 2016 10:36 am

Paul Harris was just pushed to the side like a rag doll to allow the sack. Where was Lakalaka? Coaches???

  37. z October 22, 2016 10:46 am

    Defense getting gashed.

  38. z October 22, 2016 10:53 am

Kemp is gassed. Needs a break.

  39. Buffoman October 22, 2016 11:18 am

Defense needs to make a stop. They played well but the altitude has probably gotten to the team at this point.

  40. Inyoface October 22, 2016 11:24 am

Let them score so we get some time to score too!

  41. Inyoface October 22, 2016 11:25 am

We need to recruit d lineman asap

  42. Inyoface October 22, 2016 11:26 am

    No good baby!!!!

  43. Buffoman October 22, 2016 11:29 am

Wow, he missed the field goal.

  44. oneseason October 22, 2016 11:45 am

I would have been fine if Coach would have gone for 2, but a 2nd OT is good too.

  45. Chopsueyboy October 22, 2016 11:49 am

Need defense to stop the Falcons. Go Rainbow Warriors!

  46. z October 22, 2016 11:52 am

    Yeah. Way to go defense.

  47. z October 22, 2016 11:52 am

    Awesome game Warriors!!!

Way to keep playing until the end!!!

    Go Warriors!!!

  52. amela October 22, 2016 11:57 am

Thought they would go for 2 to win. But we won that’s the main thing. Missed field goal was an omen of things to come. Kind of like Rigo’s missed last year brought us a new coaches.

  53. Chopsueyboy October 22, 2016 11:57 am

Fantastic victory! Wish there’s a way to watch a replay

  54. NotNasti October 22, 2016 12:00 pm

Yeehaw! You cannot see me, but I’m dancing. This team needs some breaks to go their way. Really happy for the Warriors!

  55. WarriorNY October 22, 2016 12:03 pm

    Great job!

  56. Hank October 22, 2016 12:05 pm

In overtime, DB stepped up in the pocket and his throws were money. What a great win.

  57. oldtimer808 October 22, 2016 12:06 pm

I thought it was a good decision to go for one point after the touchdown in over time since Hawaii was getting the ball back on offense which meant the defense had a few more minutes to rest. Lol not much rest after getting a touchdown on the first play in the 2nd overtime….great win.

  58. Warrior Dave October 22, 2016 12:07 pm

Do you believe??? Wow what a win!!!

  59. Claud Sutcliffe October 22, 2016 12:09 pm

    UH 34 – AF 27!
    Believe!
    Gotta Believe!

  60. Ajoe October 22, 2016 12:10 pm

Keep supporting this team. Never day die. These men are finding their potential. This is all new to them. They breaking new grounds for themselves. You heard those fans in the corner of the endzone? They were rockin!! Thas how!! Be stronger fans. Keep supporting them.

  61. seewhy October 22, 2016 12:12 pm

What a great team win! To think that this was the team that beat Navy! Crazy stuff. Go ‘Bows!

  62. Buffoman October 22, 2016 12:18 pm

Watching the commentary by Leonard, Mate and the rest, I really appreciate Leonard’s observations and comments. His comments about excessive celebrations by our guys is spot on. Great to be overjoyed but I agree with him in that kicking the pylon was unnecessary. If it was still with time on the clock to play, that action could draw a flag. That stuff has to be managed better. Unsportsmanship penalties should not be a part of the team’s effort.

  63. Buffoman October 22, 2016 12:21 pm

Sorry “Mate” spell check changed Nate to Mate.

  64. z October 22, 2016 12:22 pm

Air Force coach was worried about Kemp before the game. I saw why.

  65. Jack Flash October 22, 2016 12:23 pm

Great win Warriors! I’m making another donation to Na Koa.

  66. Bugaz October 22, 2016 12:30 pm

A very good win as this team moves is the right direction. With a couple of good recruiting classes and continuity i think this team can be great again.

  67. z October 22, 2016 12:42 pm

Oh no Kenny’s field goal kicker just missed.

  68. Maddog50 October 22, 2016 12:44 pm

Fans should be very proud. Was at field level and you would not believe the hitting hustle and emotion. Theses guys played there butts off. So proud. A few guys really stepped up Gifford, Akateau and the Z man himself Zeno Choi!!!! Very proud of this team these coaches. Fans were

UNLV blanked at the half by Colorado State. 35 – 0 CSU.

  72. AllG October 22, 2016 1:11 pm

Great road win today!! Man too bad we couldn’t have pulled off the win last week, could have been a very special season. None the less we are still alive in our hunt for Bowl game and MWC championship

  73. cocobean October 22, 2016 1:12 pm

It wasn’t an easy win but simply put the boys wanted it more than AF in the end. AF was playing to win the game in the 2nd overtime. Our defensive was playing to save their season. Vaneri mentioned the field mic was picking up the defense pumping each other up saying this is for our season. They played with more want to than AF.

  74. z October 22, 2016 1:16 pm

How come Alabama player scores touchdown run down rear of endzone slapping hands of fans but do not get a penalty?

  75. NorthShoreFan October 22, 2016 1:20 pm

    Guud Afternoon Tsaikos…Bootiful Day!

Even more bootiful after this hard fought win!
Improvement after each game. The wins will come as the focus, passion and execution is there.

  82. Inyoface October 22, 2016 3:03 pm

    Paul Harris must start!

  83. kwarrior October 22, 2016 3:16 pm

#2 Clyde.. Did you hear one morning on Bobby Curren show, that the service academy don’t really recruit 4-5* players and are not subjected to the 25 per year, 85 scholes max. But they can suit suite up over 165 on JV and reload. Also Tenn. Martin coach said on the radio that although they have 65 or so scholes, that can divide them up like vollyball… and pretty much all had some schole like those who transfered from other schools

  84. 808 warriors October 22, 2016 3:53 pm

Congrats Rolo for the win! Every game is a coachable moment. One step at a time.

  85. cocobean October 22, 2016 4:01 pm

Most people feel the program is now heading in the right direction. What I like about the future of the program is our young coaches are just making just their bones this season. In my opinion the only two made men on staff are Lempa and Naeole. Just as young players improve with experience our young staff can only get better as they gain experience.

  86. Maddog50 October 22, 2016 5:12 pm

On the missed FG the snap did not look crisp and appeared to be a little high. Forget that I’m sure Coach will say we left points on the field and never should have come to this. Once again ar least 2 non calls for pass interference-the better team won today without the drama!!!

  87. Kanani808 October 22, 2016 5:48 pm

Great win by warriors played hard and never gave up! Keep up the hard work boys and good things will happen. Happy to see the program moving in the right direction. Coach rolo Paul Harris deserves to start or more playing time!

  88. islandman October 22, 2016 6:10 pm

Should UH have let AF score earlier in that last drive of the regulation ? Because AF killed off 8:15 of the clock before the kicker missed the FG. If he made it, no time left for UH and we would have lost like in the UNLV game on a FG.

  89. 808 October 22, 2016 6:14 pm

This time the ball bounced Hawaii’s way. They got the break they needed and took advantage of it in double OT. Great win!

  90. H-Man October 22, 2016 7:06 pm

I’ll be honest, I never thought the Warriors would win today. Was just hoping for a good showing. With this win, there should be a huge crowd for the New Mexico game this coming Saturday. I know it’s too soon to toot our horns, but coach Rolovich has brought back the pride and excitement to Warrior football. Thank you coach and staff. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

  91. Rodney October 22, 2016 8:59 pm

    Thank you Norm Chow for
    Oline recruits, Paul Harris
    and tall big Wr(kemp)
    Thank you Rolo!!!!
    Awsome!!!!!

  92. amela October 22, 2016 9:26 pm

Speaking of the Alabama player hand slapping fans after a touchdown and no penalty the LSU running back did the same thing and no penalty. Does the SEC have a different set of rules?

  93. cocobean October 22, 2016 10:51 pm

I think every conference has their on rules regarding unsportsman like celebrations. Either that or the NCAA has a Hawaii exception on that matter.

  94. Darren October 22, 2016 11:45 pm

#6 is an electric runner, but there was one play in pass pro that showed why he’s probably not an every down back for this offense.

  95. Darren October 22, 2016 11:53 pm

Maddog50, was chicken skin hearing the Hawaii crowd chanting for the defense at the end of the game!!

  96. Maddog50 October 23, 2016 2:06 am

I never thought for a moment this team would not grow up and respond-do not look for a repeat of the UNLV debacle, that was a terrible experience they had to add to the process. From the beginning it has been alignment angles and yes some effort issues as the season started. These guys will get nothing but better so get on the bus or Warrior Wagon your either on it or you ain’t!!!! Go Warriors!!!!’

  97. LizKauai October 23, 2016 6:06 am

Hats off to John Veneri who made my game experience awesome yesterday.
He made it possible to have fan viewing participation… called for a prayer miracle to block the FG (which we did big time) and then…. we could hear the defense in the background audio becoming one mind… and then- sweet victory.
    Keep going, Rainbow Warriors.
