Dee for determination

Consider this: Former UH cornerback Dee Maggitt’s six interceptions in seven games place second among Indoor Football League defenders this season.

Consider this: Maggitt made an interception in his second UH game, in 2011, then went the rest of his college career — 42 games, including 19 starts — without another pick.

“I’m finally healthy,” said Maggitt, who is in his first season with the Tri-Cities Fever. “I’m finally playing healthy.”

Maggitt had a bittersweet stay at UH. His best friend, Willis Wilson, died three years ago on the morning of the Warriors’ regular-season finale.

Maggitt played his senior season on a right ankle that was later diagnosed with a slight fracture and torn ligament. A month after the season, his right foot was in a medical boot — the lesser-evil option to surgery. He said he did not want to miss UH’s 2015 pro day.

“I didn’t want to pass up that opportunity,” Maggitt said.

After that, he had ankle surgery that required months of rehabilitation.

Then Maggitt received a call from former UH teammate Tony Grimes, a DB for the IFL’s Iowa Barnstormers. “Tony Grimes hit me up about this league,” Maggit said. “He got me in it.”

Maggitt has received inquiries from the Canadian Football League. He had to postpone a tryout with the Edmonton Eskimos recently after his sister was hospitalized from a car accident. Maggitt’s sister and nephew are fine.

“Things are going well,” Maggitt said. “I’m doing well with my second chance.”

Wish we saw a healthy Maggitt playing for the Warriors. Glad he is getting a second chance. Good luck in making it to the CFL.

Interesting how Dee wasn’t diagnosed with the injury till much later. Sometimes when they play too much Warrior, it can be counter productive.

Anyhoo, good Luck Dee. Hope to see you in the NFL.

They’re looking at linemen for 2016 late recruiting

Nasty yet humble lineman-one that would reck havoc yet pick you up after and pat you on the back.
    Lineman that is already enrolled?
Recruiting meaning offering a scholarship or invited walk on.
