No. 1 Long Beach 3, No. 7 Hawaii 0

Expecting some changes to Hawaii’s lineup
Likely Worsley to start, as well as Frank for McKellar in the middle.
and they may flop the 2 lefts to get a better matchup. We’ll see what happens

Spoke to former Warrior Gus Tuaniga. his brother Josh is the Beach’s freshman setter.
Tuaniga said he’s in Long Beach and playing a lot of beach.

49ers up 15-9 at the TTO. LB 11-1-18. UH 6-1-16. No blocks for either team.

  2. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 7:22 pm

After pulling to 15-11 Warriors have given up 2 straight. it’s 17-11. TO UH

  3. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 7:28 pm

May be a short night. It’s 21-14. TO UH

  4. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 7:31 pm

    49ers win 25-14.

  5. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 7:36 pm

Wade staying with Worsley. Traded McKellar for Mol in the middle.

  6. bowsfan February 26, 2016 7:40 pm

Do you think the Wahine will have a retro jersey.

  7. warriorfan February 26, 2016 7:41 pm

Team has reverted to their play from two years ago, errors errors and more errors.

  8. warriorfan February 26, 2016 7:44 pm

Horrible reffing isn’t helping much either.

  9. warriorfan February 26, 2016 7:48 pm

Half of Tuaniga’s sets are deep dish/ilegal.

  10. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 7:48 pm

Up ref continues to let some very questionable sets on the Beach side go. 49ers up 15-10 at the TTO

  11. Don February 26, 2016 7:49 pm

This R1 should be removed. She has missed a back row on TJ deFalco and deep dishes on Josh…

  12. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 7:53 pm

Warriors have pulled to 17-15. Up ref missed a back-row block on the 49ers but Zarkovic ended up getting his sixth kill. TO Beach

  13. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 7:55 pm

    6. no idea.

  14. warriorfan February 26, 2016 7:55 pm

Is this ref a Long Beach fan? She has costed the warriors at least 4 points in this second set alone.

  15. warriorfan February 26, 2016 7:56 pm

JeeZ Mckellar needs to pound that down 🙁

  16. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 7:58 pm

Lordy, those sets are ugly. amazing she is letting it go

  17. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 7:59 pm

    49ers up 21-18. TO UH

  18. warriorfan February 26, 2016 7:59 pm

Yep Tuaniga is even worst than Hudson at deep dishing, yikes.

  19. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 8:00 pm

    14. she is from the MPSF. name is Donna Hess.

  20. Don February 26, 2016 8:00 pm

Wade should file a protest for both matches just to make a point and have the league review the film. This is unacceptable for this level of play. I expect better from the imported refs.

  21. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 8:03 pm

Never understand why Wade calls a timeout at 24 but TO for UH at 24-20.

  22. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 8:04 pm

    20. don’t know if he can. the non-calls are subjective. but the sets are really sloppy.

  23. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 8:05 pm

    49ers win 25-20

  24. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 8:11 pm

For whatever reason, they have brought the Wahine beach team out on the court. but you cannot understand what the PA guy is saying.

  25. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 8:16 pm

Franciskovic in for Worsley to set and Sobrig is in at middle for Frank.

  26. Don February 26, 2016 8:18 pm

Al Scates would’ve been on Hess all night. He was a classic complainer for the deep dish against us when Tuyay was our setter…

  27. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 8:29 pm

49ers up 15-11 at the TTO

  28. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 8:35 pm

49ers pulling away at 20-14. TO UH

  29. warriorfan February 26, 2016 8:40 pm

Hawaii is just playing bad, lost 6 out of the last 7 , and could possibly lose the next two. Just bad, no consistency, too many errors and indecisive play. Long Beach played well though especially for a youngish team, UH played like the young team with all their errors.

  30. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 8:42 pm

Nice to see the officials get it right. UH has closed to 23-19. TO 49ers.

  31. Cindy Luis February 26, 2016 8:46 pm

    Beach wins 25-19.

  32. WaWa February 26, 2016 9:09 pm

Joby was a great player and is a swell guy, but it is PAINFUL listening to him in the post-game. I either mute or navigate away when he is speaking. I cannot with those long, awkward, and uncomfortable pauses.

  33. Smithy February 26, 2016 10:05 pm

Agreed about Joby. Lisa Strand does the same thing. Painful to watch her too. She always gets lost in her thoughts. Ryan is definitely the most professional and probably most insightful of the commentators.

Another thing that bugs me is that Lisa should also disclose her close personal relationship with Worsley. Her son lived for months with the Worsley family last spring. The two families are very tight. She’s acting more like the proud parent instead of an impartial commentator. It appears she has an agenda. Setting is not the biggest problem that this team has. As many, many others have discussed, the biggest problems are blocking, passing, and serving.

  34. warriorfan February 26, 2016 10:48 pm

I feel uncomfortable reading about someones job but yeah If Joby hasn’t improved since his first time on air, then yikes.

I really hope the team turns thing around from this awful slump, what happened in Palo Alto for their play to fall soo much 🙁 they aren’t playing like they have better chemistry anymore.

  35. rayson February 27, 2016 12:43 am

Yes all those deep dish sets by Tuaniga should have been called but the fact is that Long Beach outplayed Hawaii and did so in every facet of the game.

I’m glad that Nainoa and Dalton got more play in the middle. Iain and Hendrick have absolutely improved since the start of the season but not as much as I’ve hoped for and not enough to convince me that they should be starting over the freshman. Thought they are both really raw to me Nainoa is Hawaii’s biggest and strongest middle and Dalton’s lateral movement is the quickest of all the middles.

I’m also very worried about the passing. Going into the season I thought like most that Hawaii’s passing was going to be solid since they returned one of the most experienced defensive lineup in the MPSF. However, since starting conference play their serve receive has been at best uneven. Almost every team has been targeting Siki and, disappointingly, it’s been working more often than it should be.

Taking both matches against BYU next week can go along way to making up for these losses and I think they are absolutely capable of knocking off BYU twice at home.

  36. warriorfan February 27, 2016 2:30 am

I hate to single out one player but SIKI.
He was playing so well up to the UCLA win, putting up POY numbers and since the second UCLA match onward, he has been absolutely terrible, not even hitting above .220 at all in any match since then. Just hope he picks it up , the warriors need him to put up POY numbers again obviously and his passing needs to get better as well.

  37. Big Island VB fan February 27, 2016 1:00 pm

I see that so much criticism is leveled at Ziki as his play went downhill. Who knows, maybe he has personal problems or issues. Sometimes when a player has a problem with a teammate, a parent (his father is the assistant coach on the team) or a girl friend, his focus falls apart. Why not resolve personal issues first?

    new thread up for Monday
    http://hawaiiwarriorworld.com/?p=35925

    33. since i don’t hear the TV broadcasters often … not sure why you consider it an issue that Ma’a lived with the Worsleys. or how he managed that while still in high school and playing volleyball for Punahou. Or why you think she has an agenda.

36-37 et al. I think the issue is Hawaii is playing against better competition. yes, SC is a bad team but that loss came at the end of a 4 in 5 days.

Agree that Zarkovic is off his game. not sure what is going on with him
