2 errors by Missry makes it 20-17. TO UCLA

  8. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 7:36 pm

Zarkovic blocked. it’s 23-22. TO UH.
a little surprised that Worsley went into serve for McKellar, who had 2 aces in his previous turn. But that has been the usual sub pattern for UH.

  9. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 7:38 pm

Zarkovic with his ninth kill ends it 25-22

  10. jmy February 6, 2016 7:46 pm

Seems like 2-3 of those UCLA blocks stayed in the air for a long time & should have been covered…

  11. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 7:54 pm

UCLA up 15-12 at the TTO.

  12. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 8:00 pm

    UH calls timeout trailing 23-21.

  14. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 8:08 pm

Van Tilburg blocked. UCLA wins 25-22.

  15. warriorfan February 6, 2016 8:17 pm

Disappointed in Block coverage by the team. Jennings needs to become more of an offensive threat, he gets so high he can be unstoppable.

  16. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 8:19 pm

Frank is in for Mol at MB at Set 3

  17. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 8:32 pm

Great serving run by Zarkovic. UH up 14-12. TO UCLA. Speraw didn’t want to wait for the TTO

  18. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 8:34 pm

Zarkovic with his 15th kill, gives UH a 15-13 lead at the TTO

  19. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 8:36 pm

Zarkovic has passed Brian Poppinga for No. 15 on the career kill list. needs 5 more to pass Steven Hunt for 14th.

  20. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 8:38 pm

Net violation on UCLA puts Hawaii up 18-14. TO Bruins

  21. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 8:45 pm

Van Tilburg with his 11th kill, ends it 25-19. Hawaii was serving for the set at 24-16.

  22. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 8:46 pm

Season high 4533 in the house (5436 tickets)

  23. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 9:04 pm

Ma’a has a career high 14 kills. Fey blocked. UCLA leads 15-13 at the TTO

  24. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 9:09 pm

UCLA pulling away at 19-14. TO UH

  25. warriorfan February 6, 2016 9:09 pm

Blocking is awful today. Not sure why Wade waited too long to call that time out. UH just seems to lack energy in this fourth set, same with the second.

  26. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 9:12 pm

Ma’a with his 16th kill. UCLA up 22-15. TO UH

  27. warriorfan February 6, 2016 9:13 pm

No energy, they look tired too, Hope they wake up for the 5th set.

  28. T103 February 6, 2016 9:15 pm

Once again, Ma’a is a beast! Mom & pops must b proud, local boy can play to say the least. Kupono has to get down and low cuz he’s jus in the back row standing upright! C’mon bows, right this ship and let’s finish this!

  29. warriorfan February 6, 2016 9:17 pm

UCLA is covering their hitters very well, UH is not at all. Half of the blocks UCLA has shouldn’t have fallen down.

  30. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 9:17 pm

    Bruins win 25-18.

  31. warriorfan February 6, 2016 9:26 pm

UH block MIA tonight, very disappointing.

  32. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 9:29 pm

UH has rallied from down 8-3 to within 8-5. TO UCLA

  33. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 9:32 pm

Agree they look tired. UCLA up 10-5. TO UH

  34. Cindy Luis February 6, 2016 9:37 pm

couple questionable calls go against Hawaii IMHO, at least on the one touch call. UCLA up 13-7. TO UH

  35. warriorfan February 6, 2016 9:37 pm

Siki has been so good this season (MPSF POY numbers) but tonight, he was not looked like Siki of the past getting blocked too often 🙁

  36. T103 February 6, 2016 9:42 pm

I’m sorry but this top ref was HORRIBLE both games. Seriously wonder if he needs to be re-trained, lottah his calls were seriously whack!

  37. warriorfan February 6, 2016 9:45 pm

Passing issues, led to some bad sets. and all UH hitters hit bad BUT UH still took this to 5 and at least won the tie break, but this is disappointing to lose this after they had all that momentum after set 3, they take the pedal of the gas big time and completely got outplayed in sets 4 and 5.

Next up Stanford in Palo Alto and at USC, two places where the warriors struggle big time. they need to find a way to take at least one at stanford and need to win both at USC.

  38. warriorfan February 6, 2016 9:49 pm

I am bummed UH should have won both matches this series.

  39. Big Island VB fan February 6, 2016 9:52 pm

Did Micah Ma’a choose UCLA over UH because of coach John Speraw who also coaches the USA team? Seems like he’ll win Freshman of the Year award. He impvoved tremendously from last night.

  40. warriorfan February 6, 2016 9:57 pm

    39. I don’t think UH was ever in the picture , hope UH fans stop saying they wished he stayed home, he didn’t want to I am a UH fan happy with Jennings and Stijn

Hope UH fixes their blocking and defensive issues next week at Stanford. UH was out of position defensively so many times and coaches never corrected this Ugh. Stanford is very good with a very offensive and tall setter. It will be a tough task to just split with them.

  41. warriorfan February 6, 2016 10:07 pm

I am disappointed in the coaches not giving Rosenmeier a chance to hit, Fey struggled offensively both matches, I just want to see what Brett can do against good teams. He has looked good against weaker opponents.

  42. Aloha73g February 6, 2016 10:45 pm

Top ref seemed to have an issue with his contacts … Looked like he had to adjust them a few times and climbed down during a timeout to get eye drops.

  43. Hot February 7, 2016 12:45 am

    41. Fey has struggled offensively for much of this season. He’s hitting .182 with less than 2 kills per set.

  44. warriorfan February 7, 2016 12:59 am

    43. That hitting percentage for mens game is terrible. UH’s schedule is only going to get tougher from here on out, I hate to see how far down his percentage will fall if he doesn’t pick it up fast. It is true he does other things well like passing and blocking but he needs to provide offense too.

I don’t see Wade benching him though because as we have seen, he sticks with upperclassmen who are good passers, no matter how they perform offensively like Jace Olsen.

  45. Lo February 7, 2016 7:13 am

Why hasn’t Wade tried Luke Owens? Isn’t he a legitimate middle? Wade talked about how lucky HI was to have him when he signed with UH? He doesn’t play at all after redshirting last year. What harm can it do? Mol and Mackellar isn’t doing much better? Is Owens that bad in practice that he doesn’t warrant real playing time. Just wondering.

  46. noblesol February 7, 2016 7:47 am

They did look tired and so did the crowd much of the night, even the bruins at times looked lethargic. Maybe all that pink had folks wanting to lay down and nap. Hope the warriors burn those pink socks and shoe laces. If any of them were wearing pink underwear, that’s gotta go to!

  47. 'ohanaInBellingham February 7, 2016 11:54 am

I hope that this weekend’s results gives Wade’s sister motivation to keep fighting.

  48. warriorfan February 7, 2016 3:13 pm

Things for tor the warriors to work work on for next week. Blocking coverage and defensive positioning. Serving too many missed serves. With Fey and the middles struggling, Jennings has got to be more offensive minded, He can get up so high and has a wicked arm swing, He needs to take advantage of his god given talent in jumping and just get up super high and smash it down at least twice a set to keep blockers guessing. I know he can average over a kill per set like James Shaw does for Stanford. He improved his serve tremendously as the season went on last season now it’s time to become offensive!

  49. Ron February 8, 2016 6:56 am

A split with the #1 team in the Country plus winning the tie breaker, was not a bad weekend. As was mentioned, we need to start worrying about what lurks in front of us. There are no weak-sisters in this league. By the way, I knew Ma’a was good but I did not know he was that good. It was a smart decision on his part to go to UCLA. He might even make POY not just FOY, but my money is on Zark!

  50. Cindy Luis February 8, 2016 11:15 am

    http://hawaiiwarriorworld.com/?p=35633
new thread up for Tuesday. UH up to No. 4.

As many have mentioned, Ma’a never considered UH, was always going to go away.

agree UH looked tired and that up ref was horrid when it came to lifts. There was one ball that Ma’a clearly held before setting. beyond what would be considered a beach set.
UH outlbocks UCLA on Friday, no one complains or gives them credit.
they get outblocked Saturday, a lot of it on predictable setting and lack of elevation by the hitters and the wailing begins.

I think there is an issue with back to back matches and this road trip does them no favors by playing four in five, the only team that has to do so.
