Warriors land cornerback
The Warriors have secured a commitment from Upland (Calif.) High cornerback Zach Wilson.
If Wilson’s application is approved, he could enroll at UH for this spring semester, which begins on Monday, and participate in the Warriors’ offseason conditioning program and spring practice.
Wilson is a 2015 Upland High graduate who attended a junior college as a part-time student the past fall semester.
Because his eligibility clock has not triggered, he has five years to play four UH seasons.

Sat next to mrs. Tuileta on the plane some time ago. She said everything happened so fast. LT was offered a late OV and they offered everything he wanted. BUT still he was committed to UH the day of signing. His father pulled him aside before the signing and asked him if he was sure he wanted UH and assured him if he chose USC they would make it work. And last second he chose USC

I am happy that Tui is coming home. I, like others, did feel a little dissed with the dramatic rejection of UH at the final moment. But this is youth. Top athletes and their families are under tremendous pressure and faced with making life altering decisions. It’s no surprise that sometimes it becomes a little strange. If I was Tui’s father and my son had the opportunity to go to USC I would also try to “make it work.” Could it have been done with more subtlety?…….sure. But for me I am happy he is coming back and welcome him with open arms. He will be a credit to our programs. I can’t wait to see him line up against USC in VB.
Seems like Tuileta would be a threat at receiver.
So how will it work with Tui for football? Will he be able to immediately play? And how about the scholarship (FB or VB)?

When I read his quote about pass rushers – “those are the guys you make your money on….”, I immediately thought about you continuously saying UH should put Kennedy in a better situation to rush the passer. I think Lempa will do that.

Looks like former UH D-line coach Lewis Powell has been promoted to the same position at Utah after coaching the TEs last season. Kevin Clune has been named the DC at Oregon State.

Current UH Manoa full-time tuition for residents is $5172 per semester. That’s still a lot of money for local families for players who do come home. Showing my age when I can recall when UH used to charge $240 per semester for up to 15 (?) credits.

Hawaii defense under previous DC’s struggled badly vs the ground & pound teams especially vs conference teams, SDSU, AFA, to name a few. Be great to have/acquire legitimate pass rushers but any defensive coach knows gotta establish the ability to STOP THE RUN! Solutions: Big physical DTs (Sopoaga types) DEs (Laboy/Alama-Francis types) LBs (Tinoisamoa/Ulbrich types) DBS (Miano safety types/Mouton cover athlete types) big, fast, athletic, strong, great work ethic, would be great if also solid citizens.
Hope that D-Linemen such as Kennedy, Kory, and Kaau have productive off-seasons and can get heathy, along with getting even stronger, quicker, and better for 2016. Same goes with DEs David Manoa and Meffy Kolomatangi.
We seem to have some pretty good returnees in our Warrior DB Backfield,Alot of youth and athleticism with Nelson and Henderson being the elders of the bunch…Can’t wait to see an attacking D again
Off the wall, but the Kahuku HC should apply for the D-line job at Utah State. USU has now lost 3 (OC – Heupel, DL- Malloe, and DC – Clune) of their coaches to P-5 Schools, and a 4th one (DBs) to Memphis
Looks like Wilson can play on either side of the los.
I am surprised about the Tui return. Not being in the know, I was also bothered about the way the commitment ceremony went down. I think if he returns, he should have to walk on. Besides, someone on here said before that if you walk on and transfer to another school as a walk on, you don’t have to sit out to play. That way, he is available immediately and, if helpful to the team(s), he can earn his scholarship back. Not that this situation was the biggest problem that Chow had, but it definitely set him back with regards to not having another freshman qb that he recruited and raised in his system.

#32: I agree thoroughly with your assessment. I think with the “manner” that Tui rejected the UH LOI, he should be “allowed” to “walk-on” and “earn” a scholarship. His rejection of the UH scholarship did affect UH not offering another QB a scholarship and thus, the cupboard was affected. I have no problems with Tui being given a VB scholarship, but I think he needs to “earn” a FB scholarship.
I don’t think that Tuileta’s transfer to UH should change Rolo’s recruitment of 1 or 2 JC QBs to come at midyear. We need the BEST possible QB candidate running Rolo’s new offense, so having 4-6 candidates is good.

Glad to hear the new hire for recruiting and recent success. Takes a lot of digging to find the rich ore. The players at high profile high schools get the attention. Would love to see this kid in a Warrior uniform. Plays for a school in Sacramento that got their season suspended due to violence on the field — yet made to the sections with many players suspended. This kid might make a nice bookend to KT. Watched his film and looked like a man playing in a boys league. Liked the way he was even knocking down his own players to get to the QB. Interesting thing is Ramar Crump Jr. (Yes his real name) just started playing football last year. 6’4, 241, aggressive and quick.

I am not related and do not know the kid, but went to the same HS long ago before heading to UH myself.
Glad to see that UH has the cajones to contest the NCAA sanctions and fight for our player’s sake. I still think we should offer “firing” our compliance officer, if she is complicit in the sanctions and whether that will lessen our penalties. Since she is cited in the sanctions, I think she should be held accountable accordingly. Actually, I’m a bit surprised she has not offered her resignation, since it’s obvious the NCAA does not think highly of her actions as the compliance officer.
Tuileta was a preferred walk on. He was a recruited athlete therefore he is subject to NCAA transfer rules. MVB can play right away but football has to sit a year.
Its wrong to accept Tuileta. He made UH look like yesterdays garbage. Turned down a full ride to be a walk on at “WE ARE SC”. I say let him stay there and pay the $30g per year tuition. Its setting a precedent that local boys can rub their ass at UH and they can still come back. Thats BS. I said it before, all local boys who diss UH should be dissed from local jobs when they come back. Think about that.

Tui is coming back? Interesting how he’ll fit in. UH has not fared well with transfer QBs that have had to sit out a season. I recall watching his HS FB highlight video and wasn’t wowed, more a product of great teammates at Punahou.
I think Charlie Wade is the big winner in this transfer. I hear Tui is still pretty awesome at VB.

Sometimes, the mainland is not all it’s cracked up to be, nor is it for everyone. Some kids have to find that out, themselves before realizing this. Curious as to what type of financial aid he’s giving up at USC?

Whatever Tuileta’s status is going to be, Rolovich knows how many scholarships are available and it’s his decision. Debate it all you want but it’s not your decision. Maybe this helps to show local recruits that the grass is not always greener elsewhere and encourage them to stay home.

Remember, men’s vb only gets the equivalent of 4.5 scholarships to be spread around 20+ players. If he gets anything, it won’t be much. I think he’ll have to wait his turn at OH, behind Siki (preseason All-American) and Kupono (National Team member).
Tui Tuileta had better stats starting for USC last season than Fey. If Kupono doesn’t perform better offensively this season he may lose his starting spot.
Frankly, I’m surprised at the sharp tone and the pilau attitude some of the posters have towards the actions of a 17 year old. While it is certainly debatable whether he could have handled the situation differently, these are difficult siuations for both the individual and his family.
If you are going to accept someone into your family, do it with open arms and with the spirit of generosity–not some backhanded punitive action. Welcome sole!!
Having a third outside that would start for most other MPSF teams is a good thing, Fey and Tuileta will push each other like Scott Hartley and Fey did last season. And if UH suffers an injury like Siki last year, someone will be ready to step in with not much dropoff again.

Understood that Ngalo committed before Chow then Mason got dismissed……but there’s still a need for LBs…..and Ngalo still has UH ties with S Dany Mulanga (his former Euless Trinity HS teammate).
Also, Reinhardt obviously has Hawaii ties……but also UH ties with former Baldwin HS teammates Ewaliko & Eldridge.
Don’t blame Tui……who was just following the advice & input from family. Heard that Tui always wanted to come to UH all along.

Heard Rolo in an interview say that if a local prospect they’re recruiting decides to accept a Mainland offer, the staff will treat that player with respect and wish him the best. He wants the relationship between local athletes and UH to be a positive one in case a player is not happy with his choice and later wants to transfer. In that case, perhaps he’ll consider coming home to play.

Whenever we realize where our hearts really are….. If now or later…. The main thing should be that our hearts are at rest and peace. Some of us have gone away for school or work but have always known where we belonged. Where our soul was all along.
I remember working and at school in Cali. I came home to visit, and on the plane, was listening to the Bros. Caz on my iPod. When we were on our approach, they started singing Diamond Head. I started crying. I was home again.
What an honor to play in front of family and friends. Bring them all back home if they want! Good luck to them, and may it open the flood gates to bring more of them home again.

This is Warrior blog, not baseball but being a baseball aficionado, I don’t agree that Tim Raines, Dale Murphy, or Jack Morris are HOF’s. The bar has been watered down for election into the hall. They should be dominant in the game, not just good, and meet major milestones as hitters (e.g. 500 hrs) or pitchers (e.g. 300 wins).
