Hire power

The Warriors appear to be close to filling the three vacancies on the coaching staff, including defensive coordinator.

There are procedural and administrative obstacles that need to be resolved before the selections are finalized.

But all signs point to the Warriors exiting 2015 with a full coaching staff.

Recruiting is in what is termed a “dead period” through Jan. 13, a stretch during which coaches are not permitted in-person contact with a recruit.

Good to hear…I hope they are able to get a mid-year QB transfer to add to the arsenal for next year. Imua Warriors!

#4. agree, we need a midyear QB who can compete right away.

  7. ai-eee-soos December 26, 2015 1:21 pm

this guy had a good Christmas …

Navy: Ken Niumatalolo has garnered an unspecified raise “among other considerations” after staying at Navy, according to the Annapolis Capital.

  8. kev-1 December 26, 2015 1:28 pm

Props to Coach Niumatalolo for bluffing on the BYU job to milk out a raise after only recently signing a hefty contract that was supposedly going to keep him at Navy until retirement.

  9. Rodney December 26, 2015 1:37 pm

    Lets go Rolo,bring home!
    Im looking forward to the
    Defensive hires!!!!
    Miano????? Tata????

  10. Sangamon Keith December 26, 2015 1:59 pm

#4 & #6. I don’t think there any quality JC quarterbacks available. The guys we have or freshmen recruits will be better than what’s available. I know we reached out to Sam Allen but he was already set to sign with San Jose State. I believe that Zwahlen will start with Ikaika & Reilly in reserve. Milton and possibly Tavika Tuioti will be freshmen redshirt candidates.

  11. Sangamon Keith December 26, 2015 2:06 pm

I know he had some off field problems in his last college coaching job, but if those issues are resolved, Tata would be a great addition to the staff.

Utah QB Connor Manning transferred after the Utes signed one of the top JUCO QBs, a bounce back from UW. Pretty bright kid, as he managed to graduate after his sophomore year at Utah. Didn’t see much action his two years in the program, but he’s looking for a school to transfer to.

  13. kapakahi December 26, 2015 2:21 pm

    Tevaga (not Tavita) Tuioti.

  14. cappie the dog December 26, 2015 3:05 pm

Why you shouldn’t serve alcohol at college sporting events.

Exhibit A: During the post-game ceremonies, some guy was shouting, “Check the grades! Check the grades!”

I couldn’t tell if he was referring to Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield, or Harvard center Zena Edosomwan.

The heckling occured as Hield was getting his MVP trophy, but my cousin argued that he might’ve been shouting at Edosomwan, who looked like he could go toe-to-toe with Patrick Ewing in the old Big East.

I think Edosomwan would have eaten Jankovic and Jovanovich alive. He looks like a late-second round pick.

Kev-1 – Why do you say Ken Niumatalolo “bluffed” his BYU interest? Do you know the man! A man of undisputed integrity in a long & successful Collegiate career. Ken is a devout LDS member, has a son at BYU & a second ready to join the Cougars. Don’t judge ! Think before you type!

  16. el burro sabio December 26, 2015 3:29 pm

C-Pop, I should not judge, but you should not judge and should think before you type. How do you know Kev-1 is judging and did not think, since it seems like he usually does.

  17. Sangamon Keith December 26, 2015 3:36 pm

#13 Thanks … these recruiting websites don’t always have Polyniesian names correct. Saw on guy listed twice under two first names.

  18. Sangamon Keith December 26, 2015 3:39 pm

Doubt Niumatalolo was bluffing … but just like JJ leaving us, we suddenly had more money for him. Wasn’t enough … but Navy’s new offer isn’t a big surprise.

  19. BigFan December 26, 2015 4:08 pm

#13, #17, Hudl has him listed as Tevaka Tuioti (not Tevaga or Tavita). lol.

  20. Dano December 26, 2015 4:15 pm

Kenny is the highest paid federal employee. Go Navy!

  21. Dennis halloran December 26, 2015 4:19 pm

I am going to miss the courteous drivers here in Oahu
    After a month.
So Cal uses horns, speed and different finger arrangements when merging
Qb at Long Beach CC is still an option. 3 yrs eligible left

  22. turfwar December 26, 2015 4:51 pm

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3864773/highlights/316783385/v2 Nice athlete. Has a ton of skills and looks to have the quickness to get it done at the next level. Nice find guys. Hope we go after him hard.

  23. Sangamon Keith December 26, 2015 4:51 pm

Lowry has good size (6-4, 235) and stats, but was he an academic qualifier, i.e., is he eligible to transfer?

  24. C-Pop December 26, 2015 5:16 pm

    16-Sabio -HAHAHA

  25. C-Pop December 26, 2015 5:22 pm

El Burro – Good team work – Lol

  26. kev-1 December 26, 2015 5:40 pm

    C-pop

Okay expert. Whether or not he “bluffed” or not, it was obviously a business decision that resulted in him getting a raise soon after a fat contract. I Don’t give a flying f__k if he is a devout anything. Did he not benefit?

  27. kev-1 December 26, 2015 5:42 pm

Like I said, props to him. And yes, I thought about that. You don’t like what I post, don’t read it. My fault for accidentally reading your post. I saw my name and got sucked in. I usually skip over garbage like that.

  28. BigWave96744 December 26, 2015 5:47 pm

Could the new coaches be from teams that completed their bowl games or NFL team not playoff bound? Hmmmmm

  29. amela December 26, 2015 6:06 pm

Tata as the defensive coach would be a absolute huge hire for the Rainbow Warriors. Can’t bet more exciting than that. Miano would be a downer and 2 steps back. He needs to go back to coaching at a small college and work his way up again before he could be taken seriously.

  30. Dean Shimabukuro December 26, 2015 6:40 pm

    Great Evening All!

Hope you all showed up on the “Nice” list.

Long day…was part of the pre-dawn patrol at D. Quijote for New Years’ “supplies” 😈

  31. Dano December 26, 2015 7:01 pm

hoping for a big performance by Iosefa tomorrow patriots against jets.

  32. ai-eee-soos December 26, 2015 7:04 pm

yup, the DC hire is gonna generate a lot of posts; hoping for a home run.

for WR, I’m thinking Stutz I, or Rolo’s buddy – Ashley.

    for LB ???

we shall see, what we shall see.

hoping for back to back to back HR’s.

  33. Boolakanaka December 26, 2015 7:27 pm

Couple corrections–Haliburton was the largest paid federal employee—by a sizable margin. Next, Rich, while it might be debatable whether he is appropriate for this respective staff, that said, he has had a number of both NFL and D1, coaching offers—his want to stay in Hawai’i, is the reason for him declining those opportunities.

  34. 808warriorfan December 26, 2015 7:48 pm

Don’t mean to sound like a “pueo” when it comes to the last 3 openings on the coaching staff …but… who who who ?????

  35. z December 26, 2015 8:02 pm

    Yes who?

  36. el burro sabio December 26, 2015 9:21 pm

If I had to guess one way or another I would guess that Kenny N *didn’t* bluff – but then again, none of us really know, do we? So to judge based on something you don’t know for sure is an incorrect act of judging. And if you did know for sure it was because a friend’s brother-in-law’s mother’s sister-in-law’s son’s girlfriend’s cousin’s grandmother heard from the former teacher of the son of the hanai cousin’s father who is the neighbor of the family that they think Kenny wasn’t bluffing.
And teamwork? Just another incorrect act of judging.

  37. kev-1 December 26, 2015 10:42 pm

El burro … you are correct. For me to initially say bluff was pure conjecture. Really, all I meant to imply was that it turned out to be a great business move. That obviously upset someone.

  38. el burro sabio December 27, 2015 8:29 am

kev-1, I’m totally fine with what you wrote. If someone disagrees, they disagree, they should just say that because of this and that, they don’t agree, not jump all over you for what you wrote.

  39. 3-Prong December 27, 2015 10:26 am

Looks like Stephen Jackson subplants Joey in the power running back role today thus far.

  40. 2liveque December 27, 2015 10:35 am

Kenzie Milton should start from day one. No redshirt.

  41. hitmanhart December 27, 2015 11:07 am

DC — LB — WR coaches

me say: Que sera sera whatever will be will be – the future is not ours to see – que sera sera what will be will be — oh my Doris Day in days of old!!

  43. A-House December 27, 2015 11:27 am

went to see Star Wars on Christmas Day at Ward – great movie – downer was Consolidated decided to make every seat a reserve seat and they charged $1.50 for a seat that was normally a ‘no fee’ seat — guess they believed if airlines could charge a fee and not pay taxes, why not?

    greed on X-mas day!!

remember when 7/4 and 9/whatever day and 11/11 and 12/25 and 1/1 were dedicated holidays that were sacred? corporate greed changed that a long time ago with stores at shopping centers “forced” to be open [ at least at Ala Moana S/C ] – even my barber shop had to open!!!!!!

  44. A-House December 27, 2015 11:32 am

if Zwahlen has maintained his quick feet and release, speed, accuracy, and arm strength – he will be the starting QB for UH come 2016 in Australia

speaking of which Panda travel has sold out the 1st tour, limited seats on 2nd tour and now ready to fill tour #3 — hot dog — is it Australia which beacons or new HC or both???

those who will go – remember that August in Australia is still WINTER!!!!!!!!!! and your passport

  45. A-House December 27, 2015 11:34 am

hit the wrong key again – continuing from #44:

MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 6 MONTHS FROM THE DAY YOU RETURN TO BE VALID – if not, airline will not allow you to board the plane!!!!!!!!!!

  46. A-House December 27, 2015 11:35 am

what’s up with the blog jumping all over the creation?
