Warriors land “Dream” recruit

Eugene “The Dream” Ford, a defensive back from University High in Los Angeles, has accepted a scholarship offer from the Warriors.

Ford played receiver and safety at University but is projected to play on defense at UH.

He will sign a letter of intent on Feb. 3, the first day high school seniors may put their commitments in writing.

    chee hoo! hanapaa baby.

  2. jeezy33 December 23, 2015 10:01 am

Interesting he committed so soon. He did really well at UCLA camps and was at least on their radar. Had San Jose offer.

  3. cheepono December 23, 2015 10:05 am

    is this the shelby?

  4. mileHIwarrior December 23, 2015 10:05 am

  8. jeezy33 December 23, 2015 10:56 am

    4. Based on what little info we have, he looks like a solid safety. Speed might be only question mark but he’s built in the mold of a Trayvon.

    UCLA Camp notes:
Performance: Ford stood out, especially during drill work with UCLA wide receivers coach Eric Yarber, as Ford ran excellent routes and showed off phenomenal hands. The under-the-radar receiver has nice size, he’s physical but also smooth in and out of his breaks and he did a nice job getting open all camp long. Ford is someone who could really emerge as his senior season approaches. –

  9. jeezy33 December 23, 2015 10:58 am

    Senior stats
    68 catches 1087 yards 9 TDs
87 tackles 2 INTs, 4 pass break ups

Productive on both sides of the ball.

  10. mileHIwarrior December 23, 2015 11:17 am

Cool and Mahalo jeez! I know ST says he’ll likely play on D but I guess that remains to be seen.

  11. Stephen Tsai December 23, 2015 11:48 am

He’s being recruited as a DB.
He can play corner but he projects as a safety. He’s athletic. He competes as triple-jumper and long jumper. Legit 6 feet tall.

  12. hitmanhart December 23, 2015 11:57 am

aloha all and happy holidays !! nice pick up for rolo !!
ST hope you taking it e z and how how soon are getting a DC for the football team ?

  14. z December 23, 2015 12:16 pm

Need to find lbs that can cover fast back on passing play.

  17. NotNasti December 23, 2015 12:48 pm

Eugene Ford has a 5.19 sec. 40? (per ESPN) Did he record that running backwards?

  18. Legistlature December 23, 2015 1:09 pm

(per the Mango report) he did that 5.19 sec 40 doing cartwheels

  19. Duster December 23, 2015 1:09 pm

This site has Eugene Ford running a 4.65 40: http://www.ncsasports.org/football-recruiting/ca/irvine/university-high-school41/eugene–ford

  20. Legistlature December 23, 2015 1:11 pm

Hopefully the Dream becomes a reality

  21. Legistlature December 23, 2015 1:17 pm

Would be nice if the dream could put on 125lbs of beef..then we would have a dream big man on the DL

  22. jeezy33 December 23, 2015 1:26 pm

    10. People get recruited for specific positions all the time. But the key is that player is versatile. Because needs continue to pop up constantly.
Tui Unga was recruited for defense, but forced to play TE because our coaches couldn’t find a TE. I hope he gets moved to edge rusher this year.

This kid looks like a safety. But if our WRs aren’t getting it done, it wouldn’t surprise me if the coaches play him where he is needed the soonest.

  23. NorthShoreFan December 23, 2015 2:11 pm

    Guud Afternoon Tsaikos…bootiful day.

Things are looking up, as always after a regime change. Looking forward to the spring practices. Who’s gonna step up and take the positions. Exciting times.

We see it all the time. WR’s convert to DB’s. QB’s convert to WR…etc. Main thing the coaches take advantage of the skills.

    Cheehoo!….IMUA WARRIORS!

  24. Old School Dave December 23, 2015 2:20 pm

Mr. Ford looks like a “player.” Just hope that he can remain committed to UH. Ad on the UH job site for a Strength & Conditioning Coach.

Seems like a number of schools had problems with their WRs. Washington and Utah, also fired their WR coaches.

Looks like Ty Detmer, who’s coaching HS ball in Texas, will be named Sitake’s OC at BYU. BYU folks seem happy to have one of “their own” back as head coach. Problem is that there was a lot of “looking the other way” in enforcing the Honor Code, along with having a number of non LDS players on the team, back in “the day.”

  25. Maddog50 December 23, 2015 3:01 pm

Great news looks like a player. Keep it comin coach. On another note-saw a wounded Warrior commercial. Th vet had an “H” tatto on his left arm-gotta send a donation-

  26. dannyp December 23, 2015 5:05 pm

Nice get! DPOY in his league. I hope the league MVP Ramses Hernandez is on our radar. We really need youth and a game breaker at RB.

  27. A-House December 23, 2015 7:07 pm

as impressive as Ramses is – what about the left guard and tackle who keep opening huge/gaping holes for Ramses to run in?

center or guard looks like a BIG fella – kinda slow, but powerful!

  28. A-House December 23, 2015 7:08 pm

sorry, maka pia eye – meant to say RIGHT; NOT LEFT

  29. A-House December 23, 2015 7:12 pm

interesting that there were NO posts about the MBB game against Oklahoma – all at the game!

    impressive loss [ 84 – 81 ] or UH!!!!!!!!

very disappointed that the NCAA punishes the school, current players, fans and not punish “all” the individuals responsible for the infractions – must wonder if Matlin knew about Amanda’s role in their ruling and therefore moved her from compliance to assistant.

    speculation — and more speculations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. A-House December 23, 2015 7:18 pm

    maddog50:

admire your gumption on giving to the Wounded Warrior program – I’m sure there are thousands of them who truly need assistance

however, when I read about the “leader” of this program, although a wounded warrior himself, and the huge salary he takes from the donations [ something like $350-400,000 salary ] I stopped

he may have been wounded, but it’s not like those who lost limb(s) or severe head wounds — I could be totally wrong, but he looked/talked great at Congressional hearings — if I am, I humbly go on bended knees and apologize.

  31. 3-Prong December 23, 2015 7:22 pm

This team is going to win a lot of games this year. Took Oklahoma to the limit.

    Go Bows!

  32. Derek December 23, 2015 8:03 pm

Roderick Bobbitt was on fire today. That’s the best I’ve seen him play shooting the basketball. I can’t fault the effort at all. Rainbow Warriors were right there at 75-75 and had a couple of chances to take the lead. Tummala and Valdes had some good looks from 3, but didn’t fall. I liked the way the entire team played with lots of energy. I was impressed again with Jovanovic, He came in and gave some good minutes and was productive. Ganot, to me, is a hellava coach. He’s calm, he’s confident, he’s positive, he pulls the right strings. He’s way better than Arnold that’s for sure, IMHO.

  33. Derek December 23, 2015 8:13 pm

Hernandez is a good player, but I don’t know if he was playing against top notch competition. I was a little disappointed in his 40 time, considering that he looked pretty fast on the highlights. Either he’s under the radar, or other teams don’t think he’s that highly rated. If UH is interested they need to do a good evaluation on him.

Ideally, we need somebody who is around 5’10” to 6’1″ who is about 205 – 220 who runs at least a 4.60 or better and who can run inside or take it to the outside too. But then everybody is looking for a guy like that. Malepeai is about that size. Too bad.

  34. dannyp December 23, 2015 9:01 pm

As for the competition argument. Hernandez was playing the exact same teams our new commit was don’t see too many complaints about Ford. And IDC about his size. He’s around the same size as Pumphery from SDSU even then he doesn’t have to be an every down back. Use him on kick returns and on offense get creative and move him around. Use him the same the Patriots were using Dion Lewis. He’s a playmaker and we haven’t had too many of those lately.

  35. cappie the dog December 23, 2015 9:18 pm

    So frustrating.

Hawaii had four chances to take the lead late in the game.

    Clank, clank, clank, clank.

    Now I sound like the Texas A & M women’s basketball trainer.

It’s as if the moment was too big for them.

Considering the opponent, Roderick Bobbitt probably played the best game by a Rainbow since Predrag Savovic suited up for the green and white.

    Stephan Jankovic is coachable.

He’s doing some of the things the coaching staff is asking for.

He’s going towards the basket. No fade away jumpers.

    The bigs played well.

Jovanovich does things that Bill Moeller, Todd Fields, Rogue Harris, Douglas Kurtz, and Gerry Holmes could never dream of doing.

Like catching the ball in the post.

I get excited when a center catches the ball.

Mid-major basketball. It’s a sad, sad, sad passion.

If I lived in North Carolina, I’d probably be a North Carolina-Asheville fan.

  36. cappie the dog December 23, 2015 9:21 pm

    Speculation.

The Rainbow Dancers’ garb looked a little more demure tonight.

    ESPN is owned by Disney.

I wonder if the evil empire(I’m referring to Disney) complained.

  37. rundown808 December 23, 2015 9:28 pm

Team bring it! Build it and they will come. No hype. Let his skill set speak for itself. Can’t wait to see him do work. Good for UH, good for the team, good for the fans. Good job Rolo. Keep it coming.

  38. z December 23, 2015 9:36 pm

UH started off slow then coach called time out. Then they became a totally different team. Starting to really like our coaching staff. Jovanovich has to be the most improved player on the team.

    33 Derek
That kid Ramsey remind me of a mix between Owens and nate ilaoa

  40. tom-warriornation December 23, 2015 10:14 pm

Keep the good news coming Rolo and ST–any word on DT or DE’s to boost our pass rush–that’s the key to any good defense. How about some OL news?
    GO WARRIORS!

For a child is born to us,
a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
    And he will be called:
    Wonderful Counselor,* Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

  42. Legistlature December 24, 2015 12:24 am

    Have you never heard?
    Have you never understood?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
He gives power to the weak
    and strength to the powerless.
Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.

And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.
“But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

  46. Legistlature December 24, 2015 1:03 am

    THE FINAL JUDGMENT
And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave* gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds. Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death. And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.
THE OPPORTUNITY TO BELIEVING IN THE LORD JESUS SHOULD NOT BE MISSED

    38.

    Remember Tony Akpan?

In the course of one season, he transformed himself from a project to a functional player.

The crowd loved him as much as Lance Takaki.

He, I believe, was the difference between Hawaii winning and losing that NCAA First Round game against Xavier.

I don’t know why he chose football.

  48. cappie the dog December 24, 2015 5:15 am

    32.

Gib Arnold substituted his players excessively.

I hated how a player would get yanked after making a mistake, then get yelled at on the sidelines.

Mike Thomas, for sure, would have joined the collective mass exodus during Arnold’s tenure. (Bo Barnes was the hardest to take.)

Even I yell at Thomas from the stands.

  49. Maddog50 December 24, 2015 5:31 am

A House I have already donated in the past thru various venues to WWP. I too am wary of the so called charitable organizations that have earthy six figure CEO’s. I guess what caught my eye on this one was the vet had the “H” on his arm. Definitely a son of Hawaii-on another note hears hoping for some DL LB and OT commits who can join the mix like now!
