    Honolulu gal libero for Texas

  2. jmy December 19, 2015 2:54 pm

Don’t really care who wins, kinda rooting for Texas to spoil the party…

  3. jmy December 19, 2015 2:55 pm

Both teams run the slide very well…I hope that the slide makes a return to UH’s offensive output…that used to be a staple for UH’s middle hitters…

  4. haleiwacrossfitter December 19, 2015 4:11 pm

    I hate Nebraska…..Texas looks horrible today. 🙁

  5. Don December 19, 2015 4:25 pm

Now John Cook needs to bring his team to Hawaii for a real match. Shoji should get on the phone…

  6. blunite December 19, 2015 4:26 pm

Watching the final and Texas is being out-coached. As usual, Texas is over-setting Amy Neal on the left. This is the very same strategy that Hawaii used with Tai Manu Olevao prior to 2014 (except Neal is 5’10”). The Texas middles are getting blocked and Amy Neal is reduced to unforced errors. Texas’ blocking scheme is giving Mikaela Foeke the cross shot and paying for it. Texas’ slow “high and wide” sets are giving Nebraska ample time to set up double blocks. Poor Texas: poor blocking schemes, poor left-side dependent offensive scheme, and poor hitting technique. Again, talent alone is insufficient, good coaching is required. Credit Cook with excellent positioning of the back row. IMHO, Hawaii would also have beaten Texas but not Nebraska. Nebraska’s passing is better than Hawaii’s.

    Congrats to Nebraska!

  8. jmy December 19, 2015 4:49 pm

Too bad Texas’ passing wasn’t good enough to give their hitters good options, though it didn’t look like Nebraska’s serving was all that tough…Anyone know where next year’s championship will be?

  9. islandman December 19, 2015 5:13 pm

Announcer said almost everyone back for Nebraska next year, but i see they lose Fein and Hall.

  10. jmy December 19, 2015 5:19 pm

Kinda makes you wonder how Texas would have done with Nwanebu playing…In the first matchup early in the season she had 22 kills, hit .315, had two aces and 4 block assists…She was a one-woman wrecking crew…

  11. islandman December 19, 2015 5:19 pm

    8. jmy….Championship Nationwide Arena / Columbus, OH Dec. 15-17, 2016 Ohio State and the Greater Columbus Sports Commission

  12. jmy December 19, 2015 5:23 pm

    11. Great…Big Ten territory again…

  13. jmy December 19, 2015 5:25 pm

Hard to believe that Nebraska’s last championship was 9 yrs. ago…They always seem to be in the Final Four…

  14. Maverick December 19, 2015 5:29 pm

    9. Next year, Nebraska also gets the services of Briana Holman, the first team AVCA all American from LSU as a sophomore last year who sat out this year per transfer rules. Next year’s Husker team will be the team to beat, and should be ranked unanimously #1 when the preseason poll comes out next year. UH should be ranked top 7 or 8 in that same poll given its senior/junior heavy roster, but the team has been screwed before.

  15. Maverick December 19, 2015 5:44 pm

    13. The last time Nebraska was in a final four was 7 years ago in 2008. Since 2008, Penn State has been to 6 final fours, Texas 7, Stanford/Nebraska/Minnesota/USC twice each and a bunch of schools including UH once each.

  16. Maverick December 19, 2015 5:47 pm

8,11. In 2017, the championship will be held at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO. Host schools are Univ. of Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos and Kansas Jayhawks.

  17. islandman December 19, 2015 6:37 pm

Attendance, 17,560 at Nebraska.. That’s a lot of cornhuskers.

  18. warriorfan December 19, 2015 7:13 pm

Hate to see Nebraska and their smug coach win another one oh well.

  19. ionw December 19, 2015 7:13 pm

This is kind of moot now but since Cindy closes the thread before I get to respond….

Texas is considered West. Google/check the sources Wikipedia uses for it. It certainly isnt East. Yes understand despite its under CST.

But anyways..Congratulations to Big Red! It has more volleyball fans for a reason and perhaps its the only real counter to the B1G despite being in the B1G.

  20. doug December 19, 2015 7:40 pm

if shoji start ganato next year. We ain’t going to win period. It’s going to be the same old story. Why recruit Casey if you are not going to play her. You can see the writing on the wall already. NO offense to Ganato, she is wonderful player but too undersized

  21. warriorfan December 19, 2015 7:53 pm

Granato will improve, she needs to hit smart like she did against Minnesota, tool blocks and find holes in the blocks instead of hitting really hard right into the meat of blocks. With her in the lineup it will be like having two liberos, so passing should improve and hopefully Mitchem and Maglio will have a lot of attemtps I want them to both average over 3 kills per set and hit over .400 next season and be the top middle combo in the nation.

  22. Bleachercoach December 19, 2015 8:11 pm

20….Granato is a wonderful player but I understand your point. We always wanted to be able to recruit.taller athletes so we could compete with the Nebraska’s , Penn St, etc… We always had the 5’10, 5,11″, and it would be good to have a 6’0″ or 6’1″.So I understand your point of why recruit a 6’3″ excellent player who actually can play backcourt too…It just doesn’t make sense….Maybe use Granato as a D/S who can rotate to the front…Granato can hit with power and can tool blocks but I only can imagine Casey jumping higher and over the block because she is 3-4″ taller. Why have them if you don’t use them before we lose them. Remember it’s about allowing your team the best chance to beat the Power 5 not the BIG West only…Remember just an opinion!

  23. Bleachercoach December 19, 2015 8:30 pm

Remember most of our local high school girls who were All State players outside hitters ended up playing Libero in the college with the exception of like a Carly Kan 5’11. Our high school players could be the kill Queen in high school but their lack of height not athleticism causes their high school position to be changed in these big time colleges. Maybe McKenna will be able to improve her vertical so she can go over the block more often than not…Like TMO they cannot just overpower over the bigger blocks or else they will hit for a low pct.

  24. blunite December 19, 2015 8:51 pm

The system and passing allows teams to continually make the final 4, with new players replacing All Americans. Nowadays, speed kills and fast offenses rule, as the U.S. women’s National team has proved. Fix the passing, queue a faster offense and let it fly. Hawaii’s average passing and slow “high and wide” offense was doubled blocked silly in the first 2 sets against Minnesota. Minnesota’s faster attack proved difficult to block.

  25. darkfire December 19, 2015 9:04 pm

    14. Concur Maverick. My prediction is if UH makes the top 10 in the AVCA and actually gets a blessing from the say-what?! RPI group and end up in the top 16, we may host with a good SOS. I believe we will be strong enough to get to the final 4 in 2016 particularly with a few of Wahine playing beach. Now, if they can just get a good slide aka Adolpho’s Molokai slide, we will be a force to be reckoned with. GO BOWS!

  26. warriorfan December 19, 2015 9:11 pm

Key to hosting next year is beating UCLA, they will have a very good team next year.
If UH goes undefeated they may even have a shot at hosting regionals ( assuming the schedule is tougher next season and the Big west improves)

  27. warriorfan December 19, 2015 9:47 pm

And if by any chance coach Shoji decides to retire and spend more time with his sons and grandkids, then I would hope they get Dan Fisher . He seems to make the most out of the talent on his teams, I think UH could go to the final four and win it all with Fisher.
Don’t see Scott leaving Pepperdine so soon and Sealy leaving UCLA at this point.

    2015 NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team
Mikaela Foecke, Nebraska (Most Outstanding Player)
    Kelly Hunter, Nebraska
    Amber Rolfzen, Nebraska
    Justine Wong-Orantes, Nebraska
    Kelsie Payne, Kansas
    Yasmeen Bedart-Ghani, Texas
    Amy Neal, Texas

  29. tongo December 20, 2015 12:28 pm

Tough lost for Texas. Their star MH Chiaka Ogbogu suffered a cramp on her right thigh at the Minn. match and had to pulled out in the last set. She did not appear her normal dynamic self in the championship match. Congrats to Punahou Kat Brooks on great season as DS for the Longhorns.

  30. blunite December 20, 2015 12:37 pm

Jerritt Elliot’s Texas strategy was left, left, left (shades of Dave Shoji) and here are the results:
    Amy Neal (5’9″ tall) .167 on 10 kills 4 errors 36 attempts,
    Paulina Cerame (6’2″ tall) .114 on 11 kills 7 errors 35 attempts.
Texas’ middles got 29 sets (partly due to shaky passing)
As an afterthought Texas’ 6’4″ opposite: Yasmeen Bedart-ghani .500 on 11 kills 1 error on 20 attempts.

  31. mauna December 20, 2015 3:10 pm

Just bringing up a stat that the NCAA will probably never mention and sweep it under the carpet because it’s by a Mid-Major University in a weak (in their view) conference. With Texas’s lost to Nebraska, Hawaii is #1 in Win/Loss percentage at 0.935, 29 wins-2 loses for the 2015 Women’s D1 Volleyball Season, book closed!

  32. Cindy Luis December 20, 2015 10:55 pm

    6. we don’t know how Hawaii would have played against Nebraska or Texas so don’t think there’s anyway to access how the Wahine passing would have been against either.
People said Hawaii couldn’t pass against Penn State.

    19. enough about this obsessions with the Texas in the west. the comment was west coast. until the San Andreas fault kicks in, Texas is not going to be near the Pacific Ocean.
