Reinforcements summoned for recruiting battle

Those guys with the sartorial elegance?

They are Warrior intern Bo Montgomery and graduate assistants Ramsen Golpashin, Garrett Scott and Derek Deardorff.

While Nick Rolovich builds his coaching staff, those four have been activated as recruiters. They have met the three requirements: 1) Athletic department’s approval, 2) Passing grade on the recruiting-manual test, and 3) Dress nicely.

The in-person recruiting period ends next week, coinciding with the Dec. 16 start to the mid-academic-year signing period. The Warriors’ wish is to sign at least two junior-college transfers who can enroll for the spring semester.

Montgomery, a Kealakehe High graduate, played two seasons for the Warriors when Rolovich was an assistant coach. Montgomery also assisted in recruiting while working at Boise State.

Deardorff is completing work on his second master’s degree. Graduation is in nine days. If he wishes to pursue an additional degree (Dr. Deardorff?), he — and the others — has been invited to remain on staff.

I hope Bo is only here temporarily. One of the incompetent recruiters from prior staff.

If Roll goes up North today, he may choose to go windward Oahu way. Pipeline Contest is on. Traffic will be horrendous.

  8. Buffoman December 10, 2015 9:26 am

    Sorry, “Rolo”. Spell check.

  9. NotNasti December 10, 2015 9:34 am

Rolo must be making the North Shore (Kahuku H.S.) trip with Naeole, since his tweet references @HawaiiOL.

    Stephen has confirmed Hill’s hiring.

As he points out in his story, EW quarterback Jordan West threw for 3,000 yards, 30 TDs and 8 INTs. What’s interesting is West was a former walk-on who succeeded the departed Vernon Adams. I’d imagine Hill’s coaching must have something to do with West’s progress/success.

Why is anyone compelled to mention race color or ethnic origin regarding coaches or anything for that matter—

If you want to see government research on injuries in college sports (released today):

For football, the Competition and practice injury rates per 1,000 athlete-exposures and competition is staggering (chart near the bottom)

I think Zak was an actual OC for 2 years at a Oregon high school before going to EWU. So there could be a learning curve.

  20. Haleakala December 10, 2015 11:58 am

Zak Hill has an impressive resume in coaching quarterbacks at Eastern Washington. One of the quarterbacks who had a lot of publicity is Vernon Adams Jr., who transferred and transferred to Oregon this past year.

  21. Haleakala December 10, 2015 11:58 am

I meant transferred and started for Oregon this past year.

aloha everyone !! about zak hill goeags.com/sports/m-footbl/…/Hill_Zak.html

  23. clyde December 10, 2015 12:13 pm

Another QB Hill tutored was Bo Levi Mitchell, who was headed here but chose to follow June Jones to SMU. Mitchell played his final two seasons at EW, and last year was named MVP of the CFL Grey Cup.

  26. Ipu Man December 10, 2015 1:05 pm

And I wonder why no big conference school
has not yet grabbed EWU coach Beau Baldwin ?

  27. hitmanhart December 10, 2015 1:16 pm

Jeezy. Why do down on Montgomery? He was a GA this past season not a full time recruiter. How can you evaluate how good or bad a recruiting job he did or didn’t do. Are you going by guilt by association .
