JJ, Glanville reunion set
June Jones and Jerry Glanville will be reunited for the East-West Shrine Game in January.
Jones said he has been named a head coach. Jones then selected Jerry Glanville as his defensive coordinator.
“It’ll be fun,” Jones told the Warrior Beat of the Jan 23 all-star game at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburgh, Fla.
Glanville said he and Jones have a standing arrangement. “When one person asks, the other says, ‘Yes,'” Glanville told the Warrior Beat.
They worked together when Glanville was the head coach with the Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons.
In 2005, Glanville joined Jones’ UH coaching staff. Glanville stayed for two years, collaborating to lay the foundation for a team that eventually would reach the program’s pinnacle.
Two years ago, Jones/Glanville coached the West team in the East-West Game.

Regarding Alegebra 1 and 2. I would venture a guess that an awful lot of college athletes both in basketball and football do not have those courses in their transcript. Speaking of Dino Babers and Mac Champ Bowling Green- algebra 1-2 are recommended not required. That is the format at many schools that are the envy of collegiate sports.

#5 If the kids know what courses they need, Algebra 1&2 should not be a problem. I had that in the 8th grade and most students would probably had taken it during high school if they plan to go to college.

It could be more. It depends on players who leave, graduate, and so forth.
It’s also unclear about the “blue shirt” situation.
An academic year, as we all know, consists of fall and spring semesters.
A gray shirt is a player who does not play in the fall but joins full-time in the spring. His scholarship can count toward the 2015 or 2016 class, depending on the space.
A blue shirt is a player who plays in the fall on scholarship, but that scholarship is “pushed forward” and counts as part of the 2016 class only. I believe Cameron Hayes is a blue shirt. He’s not part of the 21. There might be a couple more blue shirts. Not sure what Dalton Gouveia is labeled.
By the way, why did Algebra II even come up?

UH isn’t recruiting any ineligible players.
Now there was a Pac-12 school that signed an OIA player who was never going to be eligible …
A few years ago, UH signed a guy who had a chance to be eligible.
All he had to do was pass a lot of classes in the spring and summer. He didn’t meet those requirements twice — as a high senior and then JC transfer — and just didn’t make it. But he had a chance to make it.
UH has a rule where it can’t over-sign. That’s why it was a gamble with Paul Harris. If UH waited for him to become eligible, another school would have grabbed him. It signed him in February, he met the requirements, and then ran for 1,100 yards. All’s well.
#8, it has nothing to do about how smart I’m but based on your your statement how s**** you are…., lol I won’t go down that path. That was the normal Math course taken by that grade, like I said for students planning on going to college that should not be a problem as long as they know what courses they need.

Ninth grade is tough enough, you know, hormones, teen stuff, and so forth.
Freshmen aren’t playing on the varsity. They might be dreaming of the NFL, but that’s like the rest of us dreaming about becoming astronauts.
So you take the classes that appear to be relatively easy, you hang out with friends who don’t annoy you, and you try to have fun in high school.
Well, eventually when John Veneri says how good you are on an OC 16 telecast, usually in mid-junior year, then college sorta-sorta becomes a possibility, well, some have their classes in order. Some, who never had a relative attend college, aren’t so ready.
It doesn’t mean you’re not intelligent. It just means, that’s life.
One last thing:
I do notice that a lot of people have strong opinions on whom UH should recruit.
But as we all know, it takes more than identifying players. It takes finding out about a prospect’s transcripts, behavior, family life, temperament, and so forth.
So here’ s today’s challenge: You’re a recruiter for UH. Give me your recruiting pitch.
I remember when Pitt hired Johnny Majors in 1973 and he signed 73 recruits in his first season there (that class included a running back by the name of Tony Dorsett). Other school such as Texas would hoard players with no intention of playing them, but simply to not have to play against them. The NCAA put in scholarship caps after that.

If you’re ahead of the norm, then Algebra 1 in the 8th grade; otherwise most take Algebra 1 in the 9th grade. Pre-requisite for Algebra 2 is algebra 1 and geometry…so for those above the norm, Algebra 2 in the 10th grade…and the rest Algebra 2 in the 11th grade…then pre-cal, advancement math courses, etc.

FYI, in Hawai‘i public schools, students are required to earn 3 cr of math to graduate, two of which must be Algebra I and Geometry. Algebra II is not a required course for graduation, though it is typically the third math course for most students. There are other courses that would count as a third math credit for graduation purposes, but they would not count as math credits for NCAA Clearinghouse purposes. Not to mention, as previously said, UH-Mānoa does require Algebra II to be one of the 3 math credits for admissions.
As seasider said at 10:02 a.m., the typical sequence is Alg I-Geom-Alg II for gr 9-11. Some do take Alg I in gr 8, so they take Geom-Alg II for gr 9-10. In subsequent grades, courses such as Algebra III, Analytic Geometry, Precalculus, Probability, Statistics, and Trigonometry (all of which are semester courses) can be taken. Courses such as Calculus, AP Calculus, and AP Statistics can be taken afterwards.

Couple math stories. First, sophmore year in HS, I took trigonometry, use to have to hide my book in the library, and pretend I wasn’t in that class for all my halawa boys. Two, Mr Arakaki, the trig teacher asks me first day of class…” boola, you sure your in this class??” (I made it through Cal II) .
But, the best story, was this sole, named Fatas, who had just been in Hawai’i like 4-5 years, he asks one day during our chalk session ( Before there was film to study) “Coach, we we goin run the tackle algebra play???” Good times–cheeee
So Muti and Milton renewed their commitments to play for Hawaii. Where does Timoteo stand? I know he impressed at the mainland camps so he must have gotten a lot of interest. He committed to Hawaii early on even before the camps and now a coaching change. Is he still committed or is he looking at other programs?
From long ago. I remember taking Math 100 at Manoa, which is the basic course needed in order to get your B.A. The class had over 100 students in an auditorium on campus. Lots of students who had math phobia, or just hated it, like me. 🙂 My problems in math started in the 4th grade when my teacher told a bunch of us bunch of lolo guys, “You guys go draw pictures, if you can’t understand long division.”

My BA in English wasn’t doing me any good, so about a couple of years ago, I enrolled at Kapiolani Community College with the intention of getting eligible for the radiology program.

I was in the MA program at UH-Manoa in 2007.
For the life of me, I couldn’t even muster up a “C”.

At Kalani High School, in physics, my teacher once wrote on a “F” paper, “You poor thing. You have no idea, do you?”
On the other hand, the words “quite brilliant” showed up on a film theory paper, taught by a visiting USC professor who helped get the film school off the ground, that compared the Italian neo-realism of Vittorio DeSica’s “The Bicycle Thief” with Xiaoshuai Wang’s “Beijing Bicycle”.
I sympathize with anybody who isn’t good at math.
It is the bane of my existence.

And yes. I am very happy for Dino Babers, who is a little fuzzy to me from a first-hand account standpoint, but immortalized in old Hawaii football media guides that I used to pour over at my late-grandmother’s house.

I took ‘math for poets’ in college.
Alabama opened at -14 in Vegas and went up to -18. Missed FG keeps it at 22-7 in the fourth, AL. Hmmmm…..
I’m not understanding blue shirts and still a little fuzzy on gray shirts. (Yeah, I know, fabric softener and color magnet cloths in the washer would help.) Not even gonna touch the math convo.
Are blue shirts’ scholarships counted along with regular incoming players, not a calendar year later like gray shirts?
Hope Coach Rolovich doesn’t take too long in naming his OC and DC. Potential recruits want to know who they’ll be playing for and the schemes involved. Having pukas in his staff could adversely affect recruiting. JUCO signees for mid-year transfers are from Dec 16. Any word if S & C Coach Gary Beemer will be retained?

#11. How can you see that UH doesnt recruit ineligible players when every year few guys have to go jc because they couldnt get into school. Ex. Jordan Agasiva, Tigi Hill,

How to improve the UH Football program:
1. Remove Algebra 2 as an admission requirement to UH Manoa.
2. Increase the UH Football Assistant Coaches salary cap for Coach Rolovich.
3. Vote only for Legislature candidates that support UH Athletics.
4. Recruit girlfriends of blue chip football recruits to UH Manoa.
5. For football recruits that don’t have a girlfriend, give them a glimpse of the female students attending UH Manoa.

OMG you guys, if you can’t meet UH academic standards the players can opt for UNLV which doesn’t have high standards. The local parents wouldn’t mind moving to Vegas, hello.
UNLV is a great place to visit for a few days but way, way too hot or too cold most of the time.

start the first one in early January 2016 targeting local players – those who have already committed to other schools, players who went away and want to come back, players who are sitting on the fence – and residents of what it used to be and Coach Rolo can stress what it can be again – “we were great once and we can be great again” theme.
perhaps a call on the Ulu Perry family to see if son is interested in attending UH and walk-on in spring 2016.
coaches must be very selective if they can visit only once before the “dead period” begins – will be very difficult to determine which athlete gets a call/visit from Coach Rolo – impressions are critical.
if UH had been successful in “hosting” a sub-regional with the same teams – gawd awful noisy at a sold-out SSC
unfortunately, UH would only get a small % of the ticket sales as most of it goes to the NCAA.

Math is an essential if our nation is to keep up in science, technology, and enginering. I took a year of introductory calculus in high school. However, the students from asia I met in college had the equivalent of two years of calculus. While we americans struggled with differential equations, it was easy for the asian and european students.
Not that Dave Shoji needs to add anything to this legacy, but beating a SEC team on their home court had to feel good.
So happy for the coach and the team.

During the Hawaii/Texas A & M women’s basketball player, the Aggies trainer was quiet heckling our players, in particular, Kalei Adolpho, at the free throw line.
His routine went something like this: “Clank, clank, clank, Aloha.”

64. Science and engineering degree programs should have higher math admittance requirements at UH Manoa. Non-math related programs like Family resources, Sociology, Communications or Physical Education, not so much.
Mr. A-House, Oceanic 16 does show football replays in the off-season. Unfortunately in 2014 all they could show was the victory over Army.
