Good question by rage777 on previous thread on the legality of the 12thMan Foundation paying for students’ tickets to the A&M subregional. I believe the rule is that as long as the benefit is widely available to all students, and not targeted at student-athletes or a particular individual, that it is kosher.

(continued) For example, the Manoa Maniacs organization hands out free T-shirts to UH students at certain athletic events. Some student-athletes may be among the many recipients, but it does not constitute an “extra benefit” to the student-athlete.

Also when Shoji bought the tickets for the students when they hosted the sub-regional he offered it to all students on a first come basis

#3 TCU appears to have had at least 9 straight sell-out matches with attendance of 1,500 or so this year. Texas A&M fans will probably support TCU. With the free tickets and close proximity, wahines may face a hostile environment of couple thousands.

Don’t know if it has already been talked about – just google the TCU vs SDSU (Deitre’s team) match online, where TCU sweep 3-0. It was played about 1 week before playing wahines where we also sweep 3-0. TCU looks solid and wahines need to play well.

The team has faced hostile crowds before like in Seattle last season. Granted it wasn’t a good result, but I think the arena atmosphere suits them better than the smaller gym type that they see in the Big West.

#6 Agree. The wahines tend to play better in larger venue. The match will be at the huge Reed arena which will dilute the home team advantage to a point. Nevertheless, it will likely be largest hostile venue this year for the team.

Mild upset in the making, Loyola Marymount up 2-1 and ahead in the fourth against Colorado State.

Keep in mind….this is an NCAA event and not a TAMU home game.
Yes…they can determine ticket prices and all that stuff but they cannot reserve seats for their student only nor can they block off seats to fit their “home court advantage”. If the TAMU student stand in line and buy up all the tickets, then more power to them but the host school is not to be to be at an advantage other than playing on their own home court.

Mav, regarding your comment regarding Emma Smith. I honestly don’t believe all the best liberos coming out of high school are going to get scholarships. Hitters and setters will get the priority, unfortunately. Many will be invited walk ons and become game changers. Maybe Emma really only wanted to come to Hawaii, but no scholarship available and she can afford to walk on. Maybe certain teams were looking for certain types of liberos…who knows, I don’t recruit for college teams. Emma is only 5’7″, I think. So on the shorter side, as I believe even liberos will be getting taller…how unfair is that?!?! I don’t know if that is why, just stating a possibility.

But, what I do know is that Emma Smith is going to be very, very good during her tenure here at UH, both indoor and outdoor. Which is why I feel she is a SOLID score for UH.

My initial comment was referring to the blogger regarding Rice and then it just continued on to Emma. Believe me…I’m very much in the moment of tomorrow night. I already called in sick….

    10. Appreciate the response. I hope she is as good as you think she will be. I also hope your boss doesn’t read this blog, lol.

  13. Cindy Luis December 3, 2015 6:50 pm

    couple of things.
TAMU’s 12th man foundation is buying tickets for any student who wishes to attend. It is not an extra benefit targeting student athletes. as mentioned Shoji did the same a few years ago for UH students

    10. yeah in theory but if you were at UW last season it was not treated as a neutral site. PA announcer did his usual Point Huskeis, which the crowd repeated loudly. He was reminded during the first round and he toned it down. Went out the windrow against UH. He was reminded again so what he ended up doing was his Loud Point Huskies! then when UH scored it was a quiet and quick Point Wahine.

As for the crowd, don’t see a lot of TCU fans driving the 173 miles here, not on a friday. true they averaged about 1500 at home but just don’t see a big fan base.

the SID from TAMU wasn’t sure how many students would come this weekend. She said that if it’s not a football weekend a lot of the students go home.

    10. if you don’t mind, if you are going to talk about another blog, please give the name of it. just want folks to know what sources you are giving.

the moment of tomorrow night … match is 1230 p.m. HST. lunch break?

    14. I think the original tweet came from an independent blogger who I recall has been banned from Volleyshots and who has said some not so nice things about you and your UH class (I’ve seen the specific tweet about Rice). Better not to mention and start something up, but I leave to your discretion.

New thread up on Thursday scores

If that is the case that it was from one of the people who was banned, and there are several that management did block (I have no authority to do so) still think it’s important that sources are cited and readers can choose to decide on the merit of the comment.
Person you mention was blocked long before he tweeted about my class
