At the end of this morning’s practice at Ching field, the Warriors gathered in a circle, then let out rousing applause for the scout players.
With a few exceptions, most of the scouts will remain in Hawaii for Saturday’s road game against Nevada. The Warriors devoted all of today’s practice to competing against the scouts who were portraying the Wolf Pack’s offensive and defensive players.
Because of injuries and other circumstances, the Warriors’ travel roster is 62 players — six fewer than the Mountain West limit and four fewer than UH’s budget cap. Running back Mel Davis, who missed the past game because of a shoulder injury, practiced today. Nose tackle Kory Rasmussen also is expected to play. Freshman Zeno Choi received reps as a defensive tackle in the base and nose tackle in the nickel scheme.
With the game in the Pacific time zone, the Warriors were able to book travel plans that will enable them to arrive in Reno tonight.

Not sure if someone brought this up, but the story on Sanchez in the on-line paper has the wrong content. It’s been replaced with verbage from the article about the DOE requesting $70 million in funding.

#5, the story was correct read it carefully. The UH will be getting 70 million from the state because Sanchez missed the field goal. Use to install AC’s to keep his foot cool prior to field goal attempts.

The school should be whacked with some pretty stiff penalties. Can’t see how nobody knew what was going on.

Willie #54 yesterday – Wow, Honolulu Stadium memories. I remember going to a game against the Eugene Emeralds with my baseball team. Johnny Werhas was the last hope but flew out to short center. I think the score was 3-0 – Gene Martin hit two HRs over the right field fence, and next thing you know there is a trade and he becomes an Islander and later leads the PCL in homers. Knoop, Belinsky were before my time. I recall LF John Scott who was all legs and motored around the bases, and Rocket Rod Gaspar. Dan Spillner pitched that night against Eugene. Also recall the warm bag of boiled peanuts for 25 cents.

Honolulu Stadium. My grandfather used to live on Kapiolani within walking distance of the stadium when I was a small kid. He used to take me to the Islanders games I remember us having a long talk with Wayne Redmond in center field after a game when I was getting his autograph. Redmond was so cool to us man that’s why I remember him to this day. The Spokane Indians were our main rival. We’d buy the boiled peanuts and eat the saimin in the red and white container. The players used to eat the saimin during the game too in the bullpen. Doug Griffin, Marty Perez, think they both played in the majors later, Winston Llenas, Rich Barry, Tom Silverio – or was it Tomas Silverio?, Jim Coates, Dave LaRoche, Juan Pizzario, and Johnny Werhas – I remember all them names (okay I may have Googled the 1970 team). The grass was so green at that stadium of course they called it The Termite Palace. Afterwards we’d go to the drive in across the street – was it Chubby’s? Chuckies? Good memories man, the best memories with my grandad.
Went to an Islanders game at Aloha Stadium, and it just wasn’t the same. You can’t go home again.

I think it was Chunky’s Drive In. Agree about the move to Aloha Stadium. They needed attendance to be in the 2,500 vicinity to make it financially there but could not do it. The Islanders also had some good skippers like Chuck Tanner and Roy Hartsfield during the Termite Palace days.
Hearing at legislature on Tuesday, 9 am, with UH officials, hopefully to get to the bottom of the liquidated damages provision in Gib’s contract, among other things.

Anyone remember the Islander relief pitchers such as Harry Byrd ? A lot of gopher balls given up. Also the hitters Ray Jablonski and Bobby Prescott ? Before your time, i think. I used to sit with a friend who had gift tickets and we sat a few rows behind Henry Kaiser and his wife in the grandstand. Henry used to eat a lot of peanuts and there were mounds of peanut shells around his area.

I was at the game when Walt “no neck” Williams hit a home run into the Columbia Inn puka. I can’t remember the players name, but a visiting player also hit a home run into the puka during another game.
ML can you share with the status with Shawley is?
Memories of my Little League days…..Carlos Bernier was the first “superstar” kids here got to see live. Mickey and Willie were people you read about or heard their games n the radio.

Too bad Chow doesn’t have the quality depth Shoji has. Reno is going to be a tough nut to crack. The next man up has got step up and play with no fear. I know the walking wounded are going o fight with their last ounce of energy. I’m not giving up on the season just yet.
I’m getting pretty tired of things being kept secret. Basketball, now football? Just another turn off from this deflating program.
The longer this type of stuff gets withheld from the public, the more the rumor mill turns. People that support these players, this school, and this program have a right to be informed.

Sounds like we sat in Honolulu Stadium in the same years. I usually sat on the 3rd base side. Wasn’t Tommy Lasorda the manager of Spokane back then? Colorful guy and I remember fans throwing bags of peanuts at him in the coaching box. He picked up the bags between batters, put them in his back pockets, and tipped his cap. Al Michaels and Les Keiter on radio…
Sorry Kev-1 but there’s this thing called the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). When it concerns students, no one has the right to know, it’s federal law.

El burro Sabio good points. At state schools here even though the parents pay the freight you can not access the student grades without the student permission. Do not know if this is the law but it sure is in some schools.
Sorry, El Burrito Sabo, but you’re misapplying FERPA, here. FERPA is only relevant to the release of SCHOOL records of the student. Grades, assignments, and so on. It’s debatable whether FERPA even covers medical records of students, and of course, FERPA is misapplied to conceal any public records of a student.
ST is free to report on the reasons behind Shawley’s absence, whether it’s personal (death in the family, seeking help from mental health professionals, academics without releasing grades and school records, beef with the coaches, etc), but he just chooses not to.
Possible reasons include his proximity with the team, players, and coaches, so he doesn’t want to endanger that. Or maybe he just feels that it would be wrong to report on Shawley’s issues at the moment. Maybe the question is outside the scope of his blog. Maybe he doesn’t want to get kicked out of practice from chow like dave reardon did for asking non-fluffy questions, and so on.
Not a Pun or a Saint, but you gotta live the winner take all game for the state berth.
