The Warriors, slightly groggy and mostly jet-lagged, were back in the Waterhouse weight room early this morning.
The Warriors don’t have on-field practices on Mondays, but they do have weight-lifting and conditioning sessions, as well as meetings.
The Warriors resume practicing tomorrow morning.

On previous thread, reference was made to UH’s non- pass happy offense. UH had 18 rushing attempts and 34 passing attempts, or 65 % passing plays, almost twice as many passing vs. rushing attempts. Wisconsin had 54 rushing attempts and 25 passing, or 68 % rushing plays.
Sorry, Boise St in a rout. Warriors are banged up and have a short practice week. Traveling takes a lot out of the players, but worse, they have to do it in back-to-back weeks. Offensive line tired. They have played without much relief. Defense has depth so they’re able to rotate players. Injuries of course is going to strain the ability to rotate. Secondary was a little disappointing against Wisconsin. Their tackling technique looks suspect. Boise can really air it out with their freshman quarterback Rypien. That will open up their running game as it did against Virginia.
Boise will be heavily favored– 20 points or more. But in OSU and UW our weakness– offense and an offense more finesse than power– was exposed to their strength– Big 10 physical shutdown defenses. Boise’s strength will be more on offense, but it will face our strength which is defense. Boise has a very good defense, but it will not be as physically dominant as OSU and UW, so our offense has a better chance to work out its difficulties, execute and score some points. That probably will not be enough to win, but our chances should be better.
Boise St. started the week favored by 23.5 and is trending upwards with some already at -25. I suspect that will go up even further by week’s end.
Hawaii struggled against a physically superior, yet very one dimensional Badgers team. With the weird stuff that Boise does, it’s going to be that much more difficult, especially with the injuries and short week.
Their defense isn’t great, but they pass rushed quite well against Virginia. Put that together with our receivers still dropping balls 4 games into the season and a starting running back who can’t really block the potential for another offensive bust is real.
But hey, maybe on the airplane ride back Bailey thought of putting in Pedroza and Stubblefield together. Or maybe that combo is part of the secret package that is mean for MWC eyes only ;-).

Hawaii has played with heart and true grit against highly ranked Ohio State and Wisconsin on the road but have just been out played by talent loaded teams that had the home field advantage as well. Lets be honest the last time Hawaii played Wisconsin at Aloha Stadium in 2009 with McMackin as head coach. Hawaii lost in a embarrassing run away blowout Wisconsin 51 Hawaii 10. Bryant Moniz, Greg Salas, Pilares, Alex Green could only put up 3 points until it was garbage time with 5 minutes left in the game and finally got a TD.
The 2015 team played a ranked Wisconsin and the road a lot better than that 2009 McMackin team. So Hawaii has shown improvement in talent and coaching, Tom Mason and Don Bailey still need some more time to implement their play books being this is there 1st season at Hawaii. But things are looking pretty good so far.
Nobody using there brain actually thought that Hawaii was going to beat Ohio State or Wisconsin or even hang in the game until the 4th quarter like they did in both road games. Most of us in our hearts wanted to believe Hawaii could or had a chance to beat Ohio State, Wisconsin and the next opponent Boise State on the road. But in our mind we knew that a loss or even a run away blowout loss was the most likely outcome.
I know Hawaii will lose to Boise State, probably in blow out fashion just like the Virginia Cavaliers Football team just found out. I remember Hawaii getting blown out by Boise State during the McMackin era and I don’t expect it to be much different during the Chow era either.

Warriors have a chance if we focus and concentrate on every single down. No mental lapses.
I think the travel will take its toll on the Warriors this week. If the AD was smart he should of let them stay on the mainland and adjust to the weather and travel there instead of going all the way back to Hawaii.The jet lag does make a difference in playing up to our full potential. I know they use missing school as an excuse but sometimes you got to think smarter.

Hawaii has never won at Boise. It doesn’t seem like things will change this year either. The way the Broncos demolished Virginia on the road that tells me something that they are ready for the Mountain West to dominate. I don’t see them losing the rest of the way and I think they’ll end up 13-1, which includes the MW conf. game and will earn a New Year’s Day Bowl somewhere. But, that’s nothing new for them. What is just amazing is that they have been so good, for so long, at a place like that speaks volume about their program. And, they don’t get the best players either. Maybe something in the water up there. When we have a hard time scoring even one point on the road and the fact that Boise is very good on defense, I don’t see us getting a lot of points this week either. Call it, Boise 48, Rainbow Warriors , 10. Take the chalk.
Wisconsin put the defense through a meat grinder with those 60 plus running plays. Mix in travel fatigue then things don’t look so promising against Boise. It’s not surprising the betting line is moving upwards. Talk about no rest for the weary…..
Virginia helped demolishing itself with 5 turnover. They are pretty bad. You might be surprised how these kids rebound. Watched clips of Nevada And UNLV. Buffalo and ISU are terrible. San Jose ran over Fresno. I like the Warriors chances! B
7. What’s Up…..I remember the Wisconsin game at Aloha Stadium in 2009. It was pretty bad and our team didn’t look like they belonged on the same field as them. So at least in the 2015 game we looked better and competed better. I we are all tired of moral victories but I think you make a valid point in terms of measuring our current team. We will be up against it big time in Boise but I hope we come away with a decent showing. I would love to see what our current team would do with a schedule like our 2007 Sugar Bowl team had.
Virginia isn’t a bad team. They played Notre Dame pretty darn close and played somewhat respectable against UCLA at UCLA.
Boise’s defense was pressuring the entire game and forced turnovers. This wasn’t a decent Boise playing a bad team. Not even close.
Hawaii did win at Boise
Ok. Comparative scores equals good. Scores in today’s world mean little. OSU is still number 1. Saw both those games.
To me BSU football is a lot like our Wahine volleyball. A mid major program that is consistently in the top 25 year in year out. The Wahine volleyball culture is well established. So is BSU’s football culture. Everyone from the players, coaches, the athletic dept., the general public, the business community to the politicians are all in. Boise may have an edge in their business community and their State and local governments support. Both programs attract some good recruits but are more into developing and molding players. We do have an edge in homegrown talent.
It is the culture both programs have established that drives their success.

Offensive need a lot work !! starting running back cant block at all , lineman get burnt , qb is slow and he ses on who he going too !! qb is good not great like how chow makes out to be !! Geting ready to power play Boise St!!!
Cocobean -On a road trip to a Boise game several years back I spoke with a Boise fan while walking to the stadium about how amazing it was that Boise could have such continued success year after year and his answer was surprising. As a longtime Boise resident he applauded the program but also wanted out of chasing the “big boys”. The costs that allowed the program to sustain the high level of competitiveness was also high and sustaining it meant other state programs also suffered and he questioned the purpose of it. Asking at what point would it end. They have the highest total salary for the football staff in the conference and higher than some in power 5 conferences. The monies spent to keep up with facilities against power 5 conferences didn’t make any sense to him and he was a long time season ticket guy in his late sixties. He enjoyed the success as much as the next fan but felt it was out of their means. Their stadium only sits about 35,000 and without the tv and conference money others are getting, financial help is continually asked from the fans and the state. But what amazed me was his walking pace. Don’t let anybody tell you the elevation at Boise is not a factor. I wanted to keep up just to hear more but I had to slow down. When you lose your breath at elevation simply sucking air doesn’t make it better. Another thing I remember was he didn’t want the Californians moving to Idaho then thanked me for coming as this older man zoomed off. LOL

There are probably a lot of interpretations for the play calling statistics, but at the end of the season, what will matter is the win-loss record … Against UC Davis, there were 31 rushing attempts versus 24 passing attempts. Average rushing yardage was 6.2 per rush; average passing yardage was 11.3 per attempt. Against Colorado, there were 34 rushing attempts versus 38 pass attempts. Average rushing yardage was 2.9 per attempt; average passing yardage was 5.3 per attempt. Against Wisconsin, as was mentioned in #3, there were 18 rushing attempts versus 34 passing attempts. Average rushing yardage was 0.8 per rush; average passing yardage was 7.1 per attempt.

I think Clarke should sit until he heals up. Right now, his lack of mobility is a detriment to the team. A healthy Koloamatagi has been more effective than an injured Clarke.

To talk about the Hawaii defense, more specifically the secondary not playing that well at Wisconsin is not a fair assessment. They stayed on the field the ENTIRE GAME!!!! If the offense could find the grit to sustain a drive and give the defense a breather, you might see a different result. To play as much as they did and only render 28 points to a nationally ranked powerhouse BIG10 team says a lot about the heart of the Hawaii Defense!..GO BOWS!!!!

St. Juste made the trip, but did not suit up.
I think UH will keep it interesting in Boise, but lose…BSU 34 – UH 31. UH still needs to work on minimizing mistakes, catching passes, and executing. I think they need to give other players a chance, if the first-string can’t get the job done. It will be good for Kemp to sit-down for a while and move someone else in that spot.
It bothered me that they brought DSJ on the trip and he ends up not even suiting up.
Maybe some of the Boise culture rubbed off on Bailey and Mason when they were coaching at Boise in the 90’s

Speaking of Boise in a rout, don’t forget the JJ era. They got blown out up there with Timmy Chang at QB. Someone asked “how do they continue to do it?” They have changed coaches (Dan Hawkins, Chris Peterson) and players graduate but they continue to win at home and on the road. Now they are winning with a freshman QB. They are not playing FCS schools either. And even when they lose, the scores and performance are very respectable. And when the winning streak started, they weren’t winning recruiting wars. So, how do they do it? Can Hawaii learn from this?

Now…monku time. Pass interference is different for a team with plenty $ and one with not so much $. Referee says ..”got to turn around”….then how could the ball hit our guy in the face mask if he wasn’t turned around? Same thing happened to our receiver. Hit the defender in the back of the head. No call. Too many calls going the other way. It might have been a more interesting game if they were neutral….

No one knows what the score with be. That’s why they play the game. Back the players. If nothing else, back the team. They represent the university and the State of Hawaii. If not, then that’s your right, but it’s sad to see that there are people hoping for a blowout at OSU, Wisconsin, and now Boise State. The players are putting it all on the line on the field, taking hits that would make the average person go home and curl up into bed. They just take it and keep on going on.

Old School Dave — The week before DPK asked me to run the Guess-the-Score for the cap prize in game 1, I opined that if I were running it, I would not accept any scores predicted UH losses. Why? Because I’m a homer and didn’t want to see anyone win a prize for best predicting a UH loss. Rest assured that there are many here who are not making predictions because reality does not favor UH.
But I know they will appear after the Boise game and the end of the body bag portion of this years schedule. I know the prediction list will become very long next week.
The Guess the Score list is also a very interesting fan temperature gauge and barometer…
Much will be said regarding this weeks game. One thing for sure Hawaii has played a stronger pre-conference schedule than BSU. This is the most important season and the most important game of the season-because it the game this week-any talent that can contribute should be on that plane. I also hope that as BSU prepares for the inside zone run game couple with the vertical pass that we attack from all areas of the field. Our defenses can and has to. Put pressure on the QB all the while knowing that BSU is a great draw and screen team. Here is to an outstanding effort and a bunch of points scored!!!! Go Warriors
some folks on this site always complain about penalties, as if thats why we have been losing the last few years. this is what always seems to get posted: pass interference on us – either a bad call or “it could have gone either way”. opposing coaches complain about reffing here – they are cry babies. however, strange ending due to ref’s actions at the colorado game – “a win is a win”. also, after four years of chow – we are still talking about “making progress”. expectations sure have changed.
For the record after review by the head of officiating the Colorado game was correctly handled.
I know tunga is a great athlete , but he cant catch any passes , we need a tight end that can catch , he has dropped many passes that would have been tds or big first downs, he gets open though we need him to catch more passes …i wouldnt want to single out any players , because dumb penalties and others missing big plays are at fault too. We have the team to win these games, and were in every game this year until the fourth qtr. we can beat boise , just catch the bsll everyone!! Pedroza went off sat hope he keeps that up , and I want to see stubblefield with some more catches.
lol some UH fans are so delusional. Boise state is an excellent football program and a consistent mid major power and has been since they moved up to division I. I don’t think UH has EVER beaten boise on the smurf turf, and the only time it was close was during the colt brennan years (and the norm chow led teams are nowhere CLOSE to the june jones run and shoot era, or even Mckmackin’s era).
virginia is not a scrub team. Boise will not be favored in “single digits” for the spread. They’ll be giving at least 18 points. In all likelihood, UH might get shut out on the road for the third time this season.
i’d be highly surprised if UH can score any kind of points that aren’t a product of trick plays from the offense or a defensive score.

Why didn’t the team stay on the mainland for this game–cost of living is very cheap in Boise; and we eliminate the time change and 12 hours of travel back and forth within a few days.

By returning, the players get to attend classes for four days.
This year, the Warriors will miss 13 days of classes because of the six road trips. Under the previous staff, they used to miss more than 22 days because of stay-overs and early departures.
