Driving ’55
About 10 members of the UH team that defeated Nebraska, 6-0, in Lincoln in 1955, will serve as honorary captains for tomorrow’s game.
The current Warriors benefit from first-person tales from the most astonishing victory in the program’s history.
The attending ’55 players will join the Warriors for the traditional eve-of-the-game dinner at KCC.

Wideout/returner Keelan Ewaliko was excused from yesterday’s practice to attend a family situation on Maui.

Zach Radner, who was projected to start at middle blocker for the volleyball Warriors this coming season, has retired from the sport to focus on school. Radner is majoring in engineering.

Running game gets going forcing UCD’s safeties to move up creating 1 v 1 matchups for some receivers. I expect a lot of big plays.

Hope Hartwell Freitas (sp?) be one of the Captains as he was the one who scored the TD. And Walter Nozoe, an inspiration to us (comparatively) short guys. He played both ways – and against BIGGER and Heavier guys in the Nebraska win!

Sheer guts, determination, and will to win playing in front a sea of red kept Nebraska from scoring all game long!

I had so much fun at the Florida game, I went to my second women’s volleyball match.
There is a different energy level than at a men’s basketball game.
The people seem happier.
There is much more audience participation.
More dancers.
The Cal-State Bakersfield women’s volleyball coach looks like a comparative literature professor.
My favorite player is Olivia Magill.
Good to see that nobody is picking Hawaii to lose.

Can someone post a list of those 1955 UH players who had to play in 95 degree heat & 26 mph winds to upset Nebraska? I know that one of them was Henry “Bruno” Ariyoshi, who used to be a principal at Lahainaluna High School, my alma mater.
