Recess

I’ll be tending to family matters for a couple days, so Jason Kaneshiro is at the wheel. Jason will have the updates and such (and maybe softball stories.)

As for the blog, DPK, SteveM and UHFan808 are in charge. Be sure to refill the tank. Thanks.

Watched the replay for the 4th time-
For the critics and naysayers most don’t support the program ie season tickets Na Koa Coaches choice etc. just sit around and find fault- can’t print my thoughts-
All problems are fixable and will be fixed-
These kids this team are solid winners
Sooooooo happy Benny Fonua had a huge game he’s in the lineup.
KT played a defiant strong willed disruptive game. He showed leadership from Haka to finish- my man!
Get Isaih Bernard on the field as much as possible great upside difference maker
Get out to the game make it a homecoming-these proud sons of Hawaii did you well
See you next in Madison…..proud of the effort-Go Warrrrrrriors!

Wonder how the rest of UH’s future
football opponents did the last two weeks?
For instance, did Boise State lose to BYU?
    What is Wisconsin’s record?
Do we play Airforce this year?
How did UNLV and Reno do?

  9. Andrew September 14, 2015 9:08 am

Wow Pacific is ranked? Can’t remember the last time they were on the polls.

I remained hopeful this season as long as DL, OL and Wittek stayed healthy!! Our Def did pretty good vs OSU. I kind of expected Off problems because of our size/speed and their size/speed. I think even their special teams are loaded with 3, 4, 5 stars players… If OSU could have a few Rudy’s of their own who need to graduate and it was the last game of the season… But chances are, even their walk-on players may have been 2, 3 stars… Dream on… Well, according to Bobby Currin or the Sports Animals, our people were treated nicely! OSU has a gift basket with wine and cheese for David Matlin in his comp room or suite… I also saw a Facebook post of OSU band making the Hawaii H logo on the field as well their mascot taking pictures with Hawaii fans.

  13. Markazulu September 14, 2015 10:52 am

Ipuman – Boise state is 1-1 beat Washington but lost to byu… Byu also lost there starting qb against Nebraska so the 2nd string qb played against Boise but he looks pretty good.
Wisconsin is also 1-1 they lost to bama played um tough for a while but eventually the tide started rolling. Recently they beat Miami Ohio 58-0
    Nevada lost to Arizona 44-20
    Unlv lost to ucla 37-3

  14. (Jesse)James September 14, 2015 11:04 am

    Good morning Tsaikos…

Woot woot…another T-gate this weekend. I’ll be happy with being 2 – 2 after the first 4 games with no injuries. Granted, I’d rather be 4 -0 or 3-1 but I don’t think anyone really thought that would be the case. I think most people thought it’d be more like 1 – 3. 🙂

Defense needs to keep it up. Offense needs to step it up. No excuses for the dropped balls, mishandled exchanges, and overthrows….clean that up and call more aggressive pass plays on 1st down or 2 and short rather than 3rd and short and we could have a decent season. JMHO.

  15. Trunks420 September 14, 2015 11:07 am

Ole Miss blew out Fresno State 73-21

  16. Maddog50 September 14, 2015 11:09 am

Kennedy T, Benny F, Nequan P et al keep it personal. UC Davis comes to town 0-2. So what every game is a chance to put losses behind and wins ahead. Hoping you and all others get a great crowd for your first of many homecoming games!!!!! GO WARRRRIORS !!!!!!!!!

  17. Derek September 14, 2015 11:33 am

I see a big time trap game this week. After Ohio St., how can you get up for UC Davis? We can’t look past anybody. So many examples already. If we lose this game, Chow ain’t coming back for his final season next year.

Ohio St. is just being nice to UH. I doubt they prepared for UH after their short week very hard. Meyer is not sweating when he said they didn’t play well against Hawaii. He’s a master psychologist, just like Lou Holtz, commending their opponents when he knows he can name the score. Still, I thought our defense made a lot of good plays. The offense not so much. Wittek made 4 turnovers and that’s unacceptable. This week is a must game, period.

  18. Maddog50 September 14, 2015 11:52 am

Any body who thinks OSU did not want to hang 80 points just doesn’t know football. I know a lot of FB I was at the game and it was. Super physical, watched the replay 4 x. They were beat in certain phases of the game flat out! OSU has similar opponents the next two weeks. Watch the scoreboard pal. UH played mightily on Period!

  19. Andrew September 14, 2015 12:05 pm

    17

I agree. OSU may have had a short week to prepare but Hawaii came to play. The Defense played inspiring football and left it all on the field. To keep OSU to 17 points well into the 4th quarter is an accomplishment. It’s rather sad though that the media and general public are saying the under performance by the Buckeyes are more due to their short week and own personal mistakes rather than giving credit where credit is due. If UH had more offense efficiency in the game, it could have been close going into the 4th quarter and who knows what could have happened. I wouldn’t punch in the road game at BSU as a sure loss just yet. Also, it should be interesting to see how the team does up in Wisconsin as well.

  20. SteveM September 14, 2015 12:37 pm

    Good lunch time everyone!

    DPK, where are you?

  21. Maddog50 September 14, 2015 12:47 pm

UC Davis is 0-2. They are huge and throw the ball a lot. No way you take them lightly. These kids as are the coaches and fans sick of losing. That is not gonna happen, too much to clean up on the way to a winning record. Maybe a slow start but that would not be unusual given the travel and some of the dings incurred. Enough skilled players and back-ups to play a good winning game. Keep it personal all year long and it will be fine. GoWarriors!!!!

  22. SteveM September 14, 2015 12:48 pm

Glad to see some Tsai-kos were able to meet on Ohio State game day. I’d like to to think my game group email helped establish contact, but maybe not since there were so many sights to see. Other game sites, especially Las Vegas, is more conducive to parties.

If you are planning to attend any UH football road games (and want to be found), send me an email to be listed and receive the final group email. The list and party planner is at:
    http://stevem.altervista.org/away15.html

  23. st. anthony trojan September 14, 2015 1:19 pm

We should never 4-get…that no game is a sure win or loss for ne team…

Injuries will take its toll as the season rolls along….

  24. UpIrons September 14, 2015 1:24 pm

I really do think that beating Wisconsin is do-able as long as the Defense continues to play the way they did against Ohio State. But the offense needs to gel and be as loose and fired up going in. This UC David game could be just what they need to put that together and gel as a unit. I sure hope so because I would absolutely love to see a winning season again for the Warriors and there is no shame at all with a loss against the #1 defending champs!

  25. Shoko September 14, 2015 1:25 pm

According to an offshore sportsbook (5 Dimes), Warriors are favored by 21.5 points. In comparison, Nevada was a 24 point favorite at home and lost against the spread (31-17). Hope this offense is able to light it up this weekend against a lower opponent.

    UC Davis +21½ -120 Over 53 -120
    Hawaii -21½ -120 Under 53 -120

  26. Da Punchbowl Kid September 14, 2015 1:26 pm

    Here I is!

Just came back from errands – saw Coach Jones at Wally World. Still a very cool cat, that guy, gracious as always. He says he’s just enjoying life these days. 😉

Catch a few more balls and we’ll be alright. Harris and Davis showing lots of promise. Warriors gotta play hard, angry ball this week.

  27. SteveM September 14, 2015 2:28 pm

Gsan — Long time! It took a while to jog a few remaining braincells and recall your blog name change from “BNS”, a member of the Lo-Cal Tsai-ko Chaptah. Haven’t seen you since Tsaiko-Vegas 2011. Are you going to the UH-UNLV game this year?

I think Akamai Okole (nee d1shima) might be instigating something in the Vegas this year. 😉

  28. 3-Prong September 14, 2015 2:56 pm

#-16 Derek: We were practically on the field and experienced the level of hitting and effort on both sides of the ball. OSU was not trying to be nice to Hawaii. Players on both sides of the ball were leaving it all out there. Hawaii should be proud of the effort.

    Let’s Go Bows… Beat Davis!

  29. 3-Prong September 14, 2015 3:10 pm

…and I think Urban was sincere when he said Hawaii “played their azzes offf” because we saw that too.

  30. st. anthony trojan September 14, 2015 3:12 pm

Nevada favored by 24…us by 21…there was first game for both…third game 4 both….

Guess they see sum negative in us putting points on the board like last year…
For whatever reason…dropped balls…no pass blocking…etc…they seem to think…we do not have a QB…that can get it going…while me disagree with that assessment…we will know end of game…if he or we have it or not…to score that is…n if we can’t put up…42 or more…then the odds makers will be correct…like sumone here mentioned…they are big n throw the ball a lot…add 4 turnovers to that on our part.. n we are in big big trouble…they can really hurt us..if coaches not prepare well our warriors…

    Howzit Tsaikos!

Enjoy your time off, ST. Leaving the blog to the inmates, eh?

BTW, there’s still time to register for the Warrior Volleyball golf tournament. It has been rescheduled from this Thursday to next Thursday, Sept 24th, due to unplayable conditions at Olomana GC. 10:30 check-in, 12pm shotgun start. $450/3 person team. Register online.

    GO WARRIORS!
    GO WAHINE!

  33. SteveM September 14, 2015 6:32 pm

jm2375 — a comment over in Facebook was, “ST’s leaving the asylum to the patients”.
I prefer, “ST’s leaving his asylum to the Tsai-kos!”
…as he has always done. 🙂

I have been much better lately, thank you, and we’re OK unless DPK shows up in his red spandex Carmen Miranda disguise and UHfan808 puts on her cheer leader outfit. OK, UHfan808 in a cheer leader outfit is a good visual.
Ahhh, those were the days on the blog…
    Quack!

Any ideas on how to watch the game vs. UC Davis this weekend over here on the mainland?

  38. hitman September 15, 2015 12:30 am

aloha everyone !! ok this week the offence need to break out and do some scoring !!
and Defense keep up the good work !! it been a long time since we seen the Defense dont give up a big play on 3rd down !! 3rd and long use to kill us in the past !! great job Defense and coaches !!

  39. UpIrons September 15, 2015 1:53 am

An interesting “Twitter analysis” in this article shows Ohio State fans sentiment toward Hawaii throughout the game. For the most part the sentiment is good until some trash talk begins (thanks to the tough game Hawaii’s Defense gave Ohio State) in the middle. In case anyone is interested I thought it was neat to see.

Anyone going to the Wisconsin game know if there is anything planned as far as tailgating?

  50. seewhy September 15, 2015 9:53 am

    #FreeEwaliko

  51. clyde September 15, 2015 10:38 am

Ben Clarke in a walking boot. According to Kekaula, he suffered an injury against Ohio State, but sucked it up and finished the game. Hopefully, he didn’t do further damage. Still, not good when you lose your best offensive lineman, who may also be your best player. Speedy recovery.

  52. Maddog50 September 15, 2015 11:38 am

Subtle changes! Game notes out already-subtle changes to line up I am sure there will be some changes due being chipped up or dinged as they say. Remember when the noes would barely come out before the game. Great job AD!!!!

  53. hitman September 15, 2015 11:49 am

  56. SteveM September 15, 2015 1:06 pm

    Good morning (?) everyone!

Folks, I listed the score predictions for the Colorado game because DPK was donating a prize and he called to ask me to keep tabs. If you were ever caught in DPK’s telephone aura, he’s hard to resist– just ask ST. 😀

The game predictions were started by Jason (now a math teacher) and taken over by Pomai. It’s still his.

Tell you what– if Pomai does not pick it up by Thursday noon, I will.

I know you want to lock in your guesses in early, so go ahead and post them.
As far as I know, there is no prize this week.

  57. cocobean September 15, 2015 1:59 pm

Weather or the opponent. Two people called to see if I wanted their tickets. They know I have my own but I’m the go to guy when people don;t plan to use theirs. One said he didn’t care to see UH play a DII school the other cited weather concerns.
My nephew and his friends gladly took the tickets with parking passes.

  58. cocobean September 15, 2015 2:13 pm

I think this is the right opponent at the right time. It’s a game where Max and the O can work out some of the bugaboos that’s been slowing them down. I was at the CU game and posted then that Max looked like a “rookie.” You could see he has the physical tools but not the game experience. He didn’t show too much pocket savvy which comes with facing live bullets week in and week out. South Dakota wouldn’t be firing blanks at him but neither will they be firing howitzers. Time for the O to gain some confidence while under live fire rather than from practice rounds.

  59. Shoko September 15, 2015 3:29 pm

Would love to see this upcoming game turn out to be like the Lamar game (52-2).

  60. Shoko September 15, 2015 3:42 pm

Interesting tidbit coming from one of our conference brethren. Be thankful Chow isn’t as animated as Polian on the sideline. Young guy with too much energy and a temper ( or passion).

“Wolf Pack football coach Brian Polian was fined $10,000 by Nevada after receiving two unsportsmanlike penalties during his team’s 44-20 loss to Arizona on Saturday.”

  61. beans September 15, 2015 4:06 pm

    Cocobean #55
Excellent point. let’s crank up the offence this week and get it in gear!
Looking ahead a little, I see that for the Nevada game in Reno the Silver Legacy Hotel & Casino has put out a special rate of $89. per room night. I strongly suggest that you jump on it. A great hotel and at less than motel rates. AND there is going to be a PREGAME RALLY with UH cheerleaders and band I believe? at the same hotel. The stadium is within walking distance of the hotel. 1 pm kickoff for what should be a competitive afternoon game that should be exciting. Reno’s elevation is around 4,700 so should be nice crisp football weather on Oct. 24th.
If you have never been to Reno, this would be a great time. Beautiful Lake Tahoe is an hours drive away. If you fly Hawaiian into Sacramento the drive up would take about 1 1/2 hours on 80. Oh yeah, there is a sports book in the Legacy too.
Maybe pay for you trip right there? (;-0)

  62. beans September 15, 2015 4:17 pm

    RENO
The UH pep band will be at the pregame rally not the whole band nor the cheerleaders. They are not as big but the’re Peppy!

  63. cappie the dog September 15, 2015 6:50 pm

    400 yards.

That’s the number I’m keeping my eye on when Hawaii plays UC-Davis.

Here is the perfect team to open up the playbook against.

  64. oneseason September 15, 2015 7:04 pm

#56 … Shoko … I had to look it up, but Lamar was UH’s second game under coach Chow. UH 54 – 2 Lamar sure looks impressive … until you see the 1-7 conference record for 2012. It isn’t clear to me that a blow-out is helpful at all. For this weekend, I would rather see as challenging a game for UH as possible and still get a win. Hopefully the coaches could use it to teach, like Urban Meyer & company are no doubt doing after being awakened by UH’s defense.

  65. Akamai Okole September 15, 2015 9:45 pm

    3-Prong,

    Safe flight.

    End of Fremont…Rajah…I go see.
