Today unveiled its 15-event fall schedule on ESPN3, which commences on September 25 when UC Davis travels to Long Beach State for a women’s volleyball matchup.
Eleven women’s volleyball on the all slate in the third year of a collaboration between the Big West and ESPN to produce up to 60 events annually on ESPN3. All nine conference schools will be featured at least once in the package.
Highlighted in the package is a women’s volleyball showdown between Hawai‘i and Long Beach State at the Walter Pyramid on Friday, November 6.
UH will make three additional women’s volleyball road appearances – against Cal State Fullerton on October 2, UC Riverside on October 3, and UC Irvine on November 17. In addition to hosting UC Davis and Hawai‘i, LBSU will entertain UCI on Saturday, September 26.

EWU got in and even though sophomore Vaoifi did not make the trip (knee injury), her family met the team at the airport with lei.

Anyway, they update the blocks and aces after each match. to that end, Wahine Volleyball Ace Club & Roofing Company is a fundraiser through the UH Foundation for the volleyball program. You can pledge a certain amount, from 10 cents through $2 per ace or block throughout the season. They’ll take other amounts too.
At the end of the season, donors will be sent a tally of how many aces/blocks happened and donations will be funneled through UHF and sent on to Wahine volleyball.

I am a proud member of the W.V.A.C.@R.C. It is a great way to help the Wahine out. Ms. Higgins is costing me the most but I love the way she serves.
Cindy, is it just me, or does it seem like the referees (Dan, Ernie, Wayne, and Dixon), are quite bad this season. They’re making stupid errors, missing calls, and not refereeing consistently. Do they need to be certified each year/season or once they get certified, they’re good forever? I think we need to get some new referees to take their places. Time for them to retire.
I remember seeing the banner once on TV. I usually follow stats online but sometimes there are errors that make me wonder how accurate it is.
Saw the Florida website. Looks like they have a Luau planned. Hope the visiting schools have a good time like Iowa and American. Of course it helped with local players on their team.
Practice ought to be interesting today.
Florida’s players listed on their roster don’t look too huge, except for Alhassan. They must be deadly, hitting at .330 for the season, with opponents at .196. Blocks at 3.18 per set. UH at .266 hitting pct. with opponents at .187 , blocks at 3.12 per set.
Not sure if this was ever posted in previous posts but it looks like Ginger Long is using her last year of eligibility (I believe so) and playing beach this year.
Florida has their celebrated AA hitters in Holston and Alhassan but what makes them go is setter Mackenzie Dagostino. Florida is not tall like UCLA but are very quick and efficient and Dagostino makes them run like a finely tuned machine.
Perhaps Coach Shoji has had time to cool off after voicing his dissatisfaction in the post game interview on Sunday and is preparing to start his same ol’ same ol’ cookie cutters. Would that be blood-boiled excitement or painful anguish?

Shoji: “I think it’s open (setter position) because Kendra gives us an added dimension blocking. Kendra seems to make things happen,” Shoji said. “(Higgins) is struggling with location, struggling with selection. Right now she’s our starter. But we can give Kendra more playing time, especially in the front row.”
Higgins, a junior and second-year starter, said she and her teammates know major changes could be coming.
Higgins:“It’s not something we’re totally unaware of,” she said. “There’s some things we do, things that I do. I make the same errors over and over again.”
Let’s see if Shoji truly shakes it up. He is also talking about Huff moving to the right side. Also, UCLA clearly beat us on digs. He has to make a moves in the back row. Coach has been toying around with his back row specialists.
Guinasso is very athletic. She is smooth with uncanny anticipation. Like a trailing safety who always seems to be in the right spot at the right time to make a play. Anderson is mechanically solid and is also fluid in the back row. Granato can hit from the 3 meter line and adds dimension.

34. don’t see Anderson as the libero. Kahakai is more athletic and a threat if pressed to hit out of the back row. if you remember they used her in the front row for one set last year. Anderson is the top DS and stabilizes the passing for sure.
The libero is not an option to attack. Unless NCAA changed the rules, the libero is not allowed to jump and spike the ball. Passing and defense are the primary responsibilities of the libero. Plus, it seems like the libero is the secondary setter in UH’s system. So, Kahakai being a threat to hit out of the back row should have no bearing on whether she is the best libero option. If Anderson stabilizes the passing and is better than Kahakai in that department, why not try her out in that spot? Six matches in and Kahakai’s passing has been inconsistent and her defensive numbers are nothing special.
I have been involved with the University for quite a few decades. I’ve spent many a day talking with (the coaches)and have respected most of them! Dave Shoji remains pretty much at the top. I do not always agree to his ways , BUT, he is the COACH! I at times admire him for sticking to his guns , but , do wish he would make better use of his players ( I believe he has a wealth of potential superstars-that NEED playing time , in order to really help the team)! Anyway — GO BOWS , GO WAHINE–IMUA!
Cindy, do you know why Dave won’t let Nikki hit with her left hand? Nikki has said numerous times that she is ambidextrous and can hit with her left. I think it would be a huge advantage in the offense to have a 6’4″ left handed hitter at opposite. She could even mix it up during the game, really throwing off the block.
Just curious if anyone knows why Dave just does not want her to do that?
1. yep, discussed that Penn State and Ohio State don’t have interest in returning unless there is another MPSF team in the event. For this year, the Outrigger has 1 MIVA, 1 EIVA and one Conference Carolinas.
5. Long has a fifth year left and is finishing her master’s. will play beach. whether she breaks into the top 5 teams wouldn’t be decided until spring.
7. don’t know what will change with the lineup and won’t know until they lineup Thursday against SDSU.
8. That was a surprise about Karaitiana when I got the text that there would be a press conference. They were convinced the NCAA wouldn’t change its mind. She’ll get another senior night. Don’t know how she’ll top the one she had last year when some of the PCC showed up.

13. Don’t know what you mean about ‘it’s about time” about the COA. Cost of attendance just started this year. The booster club has done plenty of fundraisers in the past. This is getting the public more involved.
People have been able to specify which athletic team they’d like to donate to for a while now when going through Koa Anuenue.

I wondered about this as well, Anderson comes in to serve and leaves before she has any chance for serve reception.
14. Let’s see. he has 2 seniors. He has 12 players on scholarship out of 15 eligible to play. (Burns out for another 3 weeks, likely will redshirt). Huff is on basketball scholarship. Odds are in favor of scholarship players being on the court.
16. Kahakai can do a standing attack, hits a heavier ball than any of the other DSs.
18. She is ambidextrous. doesn’t mean she can hit with her left with the same force as with her right. Don’t think it’s an issue of Shoji not allowing her to, rather that she isn’t very good at it. She does do it when playing sand, but it’s not a full swing, usually done on tip shot.
A number of players use their other hand when the set is off or on an overpass. Magill is a good example on the overpass.

3. if you following along on the blog during the match, I have commented on the poor officiating. Problem is the lack of certified refs for this level.
21. That was in reference to Anderson in Set 4 against UCLA. She stayed in.
As for practice, it was practice. they worked with different lineups just as they have the past four weeks. Just because Shoji said all positions were open doesn’t mean that there will be whole sale changes. They had one bad game, had some areas exposed. Just as happened when the weakness showed up two weeks ago that the backcourt defense was vulnerable in certain situations. They made adjustments to correct that.
Different opponents require different matches. Doesn’t mean that the lineup used against San Diego State will be the same used against Florida.
What I can tell you is they are not considering a 6-2.
