Video: Walker hired as Warriors assistant coach

coaches

Former Warrior Joshua Walker was officially hired as the new Warriors assistant, replacing Spencer McLachlin, who is on the AVP tour.
We’ll have a video up on HawaiiWarriorWorld later this evening. He has signed the paperwork. Don’t know when UH will make official announcement.
Both Wade and Zarkovic are very pleased with the hire.
Walker has pretty much retired from pro ball. Staying in Hawaii with wife and four-month old daughter. Happy to be back and able to give back to his program.

Men are having open gym right now. Both Kupono Fey and Jennings Franciskovic are on the U.S. Junior National Team and will leave Sept. 6 for the FIVB Junior World Championships in Mexico.

    1. i think I saw a very tall guy blonde walk by was busy with interviews

Update. No, according to Siki who just walked by. he said their Dutch player may be in next week.

congrats and welcome back to walker!

and good luck to fey and franciskovic!

Thanks, hope he makes it, and that he makes an impact.

Today’s earlier thread said the Olivia had increased her vertical. REALLY? It was already too high for Higgins to consistently set with accuracy. Hoping time has improved the connection, because if she’s going higher now, and sets are spot on, she’s gonna be unstoppable!

    6. Last August on the gadget measuring jumping touch heights, Magill touched 10’7 and Taylor 10’2.

Congrats to Fey and Franciskovich! Sounds like a good experience!
Next year’s team should be interesting!

BTW, Manu-Olevao and Higgins chosen co-captains.

    6. Timing has improved for Magill, who tended to jump early. They’ve worked hard on the connection

    9. the ‘2 punahou starters’ are chosen captains…

much to the chagrin of all these internet coaches right?

also laughable is ‘wanting nikki taylor to terminate on the left/L1 (OH or similar) including as planned for (LAST) year’ and ‘wanting annie mitchem to be OH (or similar)’ because a JC champ is surefire for D1 right?

    lol

  11. wildcard August 26, 2015 12:29 am

i bet also theres more of ‘tai always hits into block and couldnt dig up her own ball, i want emily hartong back!’ or ‘higgins sets way too low or couldnt set the ball for jack similar’ (though admittingly it is highly entertaining when she gets chewed)

  12. Hot August 26, 2015 1:19 am

What is with this Punahou thing? Why is it even being mentioned? Is there a connection between Shoji and Punahou?

  13. tongo August 26, 2015 6:16 am

#11 Yeah, we can’t be too serious, after all, this is just for fun and entertainment. Without it, what would we do until the start of season. Thanks for continuing to post gobbledygook.

Wildcard: watch Dave’s UH video interview. he acknowledges that the game has changed, that it is more physical and that he needs the taller players to compete in the post season. Your defense of Tai is admirable but having gone in person to almost every home game last year, I can attest that her inconsistency really hurt the momentum of the team and her inability to hit against big blocks was evident.

Regarding the captain choices. The players voted on paper who they wanted as captain(s). Ballots turned in and tabulated after the players left the court. I was sitting courtside and Shoji would not tell me until after he had texted the team to let them know first. Then he walked over to tell me.

    14. yes, she was inconsistent but if you were at all the games you saw where she came through with key kills at key moments, particularly late in matches.

What I would hope is that people will see that this is a new season and a new team. Let’s look at how they all play this weekend and then see which critiques are still valid.

here is the link to the UH video where Shoji discusses players, schedule, etc. It’s someone dated and does not reflect Burns’ injury.

One needs to look back at the prior blogs to see the humor in wildcard’s sarcasm.

Sometimes you just need to let the coaches coach and the players play. It may not be to your liking but it is what it is.

#16 Yeah, I got it. I was just having fun too. No disrespect. Fans are all rev up with no place to go. The new norm over the next few days has become “Fans Gone Wild” with Cindy as the censor when we deviate too far.

  18. Cindy Luis August 26, 2015 9:18 am

Hot asked about Shoji’s Punahou connection. He briefly coached there in the 70s, wife works there, one son went there, good friends who coach or coached there.

    17. hopefully not Too Wild. Things have been pretty mild as of late. Some things I don’t even see now because there is more oversight by filters and web guys. If they get approved out of the filters, comment is posted.
