U.S. men advance in World League, women undefeated in WGP

Friday: Only have score but U.S. just defeated France 25-21, 25-22, 24-26, 25-20. Keeps hopes alive to defend the World League title
Point differential has U.S and France advancing, host Brazil out.

In Hong Kong Friday, the women stayed undefeated in World Grand Prix with a 25-21 25-18, 23-25, 25-16 win over Thailand.
They play China Saturday.


Libero Tamari Miyashiro, in her second start, had a match-high 12 digs.

    the correct term is set ratio (which is points) since all three teams finished 1-1 in matches 4-4 in Sets W-L. U.S. ratio was 1.031, scored 6 more points than it gave up, France 1.000, scored as many points as it gave up; Brazil .970. gave up 6 more points than it scored.

    Is Speraw considered an interim head coach? Who will take over when the men’s season starts in January?

    jmy — speraw is the head coach of the men’s nat’l team, and ucla men’s team. usav and ucla have allowed him to have dual roles.

    5. thanks for getting to that first. Although a little surprising consider next year is the Olympic year. But the national training center only an hour or so down the 405 from UCLA. we’ll see how it works out for Speraw.

    Averill’s team loses its Pan American Games opener Friday. Team manager is former UH All-American Tom Pestolesi.
