Middle blocker Taylor Averill was named to the AVCA All-America first team for the second year in a row.

Opposite Brook Sedore was selected to the second team.

Libero Kolby Kanetake, outside hitter Siki Zarkovic and setter Jennings Franciskovic received honorable mention.

(Middle blocker Davis Holt was robbed.)

This is the final week of classes for UH’s spring semester, which is problematic when the volleyball team is preparing for tomorrow’s NCAA play-in match against Penn State.

Free time is study time. While waiting in a hotel lobby, outside hitter Brandon Hiehle is studying.

You know how you don’t realize you’re poor until you meet someone who’s not poor? The Warriors practiced yesterday in Stanford’s version of UH Gym I. Stanford is not poor. I passed a nice little sand-volleyball court yesterday. I thought, this is quaint. It turns out that’s the court for P.E. Some rich guy whose name is on a lot of buildings is building a state-of-the-art sand volleyball court. Yep, to reiterate, Stanford is not poor.

Athletic trainer Bruce Hamelin is a traveling medicine man. In two suitcases, he carries all the resources needed to prepare and treat the players.

    Second!

Nothing like a visit to the other side of the tracks to put things in perspective in one fashion.

Nothing like knowing your team is in the NCAAs to gain the best perspective.

    GO WARRIORS!!!

“All that glitters is not gold.” Facilities don’t win championships.
I first heard that when someone mentioned walking along Hotel Street in the 70’s…

  4. seewhy May 4, 2015 8:43 am

It’s nice to see/ hear the Bows are studying. Keep that “student” part of student-athlete.

  5. boolakanaka May 4, 2015 8:44 am

I placing even money Iosefa makes the Bucs final squad. They have two other FBs currently on roster, one played a little bit, the other was strictly a special teams guy. JI–has a bit more punch and better hands.

He stays healthy, knows the blocking scheme and he is in–oh, that and keep away from Mons Venus ( don’t look it up, and don’t ask why Boola knows this place.)

  6. seewhy May 4, 2015 8:47 am

    Milan is such a character!

    GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!

BOOLA – the club or otherwise?

  8. boolakanaka May 4, 2015 9:57 am

Tom, respecting my rights for incrimination and giving a nod to our family audience and good taste, I will respectfully decline to answer that question…..

  9. Leron May 4, 2015 9:58 am

Think Joey has a good shot of at least contributing on Special Teams. ST, correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Joey was a blocker on kickoff returns for at least the first two games last year before getting hurt. He demolished a UDub defender on the first return of the season if I recall correctly.

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Congrats to Sunny, Brooke, Kolby, Siki & Jennings! Well deserved!

Of course Stanford is not poor. IIRC, it has one of the biggest endowments of all universities.
BUT, THEY DIDN’T EVEN MAKE THE CONFERENCE PLAYOFFS!
    👿

Congrats to the BaseBows and SoftBows on their series wins this weekend.

    Buccaneer Rookies Pick Jersey Numbers

    JI-#33

    Notes-

    Rookies report Thursday.

Good bench press, wildcat and special teams ability has to have helped JI.

    Add, too, the Samoan toughness.

One plus I see is that TB didn’t resign Martin, another of the RB’s.

  15. Stephen Tsai May 4, 2015 10:52 am

Sometimes 40 times and other “tangibles” don’t matter. We know Joey Iosefa can play football very well.

  16. letsgowarriors May 4, 2015 10:55 am

Doug Martin is still on TB, they just didnt pick up his 5th year option, which is for the 2016 season. not this season.

  17. jm2375 May 4, 2015 10:57 am

Is UH the only place that has a special VB court surface?

Will the NCAA tournament have the Taraflex or something similar?

    Just asking.

  20. letsgowarriors May 4, 2015 11:17 am

staying healthy will be the key to Iosefa making the team. his versatility is big, but he has yet to stay healthy for an entire season.

  21. tom-warriornation May 4, 2015 11:25 am

Tickets for tomorrow’s Volleyball game are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and youths. 8pm game at Maples Pavilion. Who is coming?

  25. oneseason May 4, 2015 12:23 pm

#21 … wow … supply and demand rule or NCAA has a heart of gold after all? … $16 Adult, $10 Senior, $5 Youth as I recall for the SSC 1/4 final MPSF match.

  26. jm2375 May 4, 2015 12:59 pm

The $5 tickets are for the play-in games.
Tickets for the semis & finals are $18 reserved/$15 general or $30 reserved/$25 general for both days.
Supply and demand since Stanford ain’t in it.

UH needs to bid for a future tournament. Sites have been awarded through 2017 or 2018.

  27. Tiki808 May 4, 2015 1:10 pm

UH is a good team. Penn State was at the beginning of the year. I’m happy to see they made it in. I like Los Angeles and the area this time of the year. Very busy, so I think they’ll win one for Hawai’i. MB, well? Holt will be needed anyway. However, the team is the main focus. Good team.

  28. st. anthony trojan May 4, 2015 1:17 pm

@ 24….not sure if was supply n demand rule.. that the prices here were much higher…

Could be a idiot rule…or maybe a greedy rule…or maybe even stupid rule….but one thing 4 sure….UHAD….in the past…always made sure that their small base of fans (n shrinking) always gets the shaft….not the gold for loyalty…football thursday nite…
WVB…last 6 games away…triple the price 4 MVB 1/4 finals….no spring game…n lie about it cuz of injury….then do it ne way….reallyb don’t want to say….whats next….cuz surely as the rainbow will appear in the valley….there will be another blunder…oops…already had one…he he he

  29. Leron May 4, 2015 1:41 pm

Posting this here since I can’t find any mention on local media outlets. Congrats to Punahou grad and Utah State player Brian Suite for signing a FA deal with the Lions.

  30. A-House May 4, 2015 1:41 pm

anyone know how much $$$, if any, did UH keep for the 1/4 final VB game against LB or all of it went to the MPFS?

  31. st. anthony trojan May 4, 2015 3:14 pm

A-house… sent ur question to Mr. Clapp…
    here is his reply…WITHIN 15 MINUTES….

This information is not available yet as we are still completing the financial report for the MPSF. The basic principle is that we forward all of the ticket sales, etc. to the Conference. The Conference pays for all expenses (including our cost to host) for all participating teams in the Tournament. If there is any money left over, it is split among all of the participants in the Tournament.

    Carl

  39. Kahuna May 4, 2015 5:22 pm

I think in the past and also in women’s vball, Sportscourt is usually the surface of choice. I think they almost have to put Sportscourt on since this is a NCAA event and not a Stanford game. They also have to cover up all the other ads and all the other logos that are not part of the NCAA tourney.

  40. kapakahi May 4, 2015 5:23 pm

    #1. ST,

Doesn’t mean that UH not looking for another safety.

    Let’s Go Bows!

  44. jm2375 May 4, 2015 7:08 pm

After 3 months, UH needs another 15 days to respond to NoClueAtAll?

  45. A-House May 4, 2015 7:25 pm

    sat:

the distribution is not fair – UCI had only a few for the game unlike UH which went into the thousands – example: 6500 vs 1000

yet, UCI and the other tournament teams gets all their expenses paid cause UH contributed the largest amount? if expenses are greater than income, UH has to shell out the same $$$ as teams that did not host or host team that had only a few paying customers, but played in the tournament?

football or volleyball or basketball – MWC, BWC, and MPSF conferences are making UH the “whipping boy” as the only team that must “pay the way” – BTW, UH must pay for softball teams that play at UH? what about water polo or baseball or tennis or golf?

conference affiliation is great, but at what cost? seems UH will always be the scape goat.

yea, yea, I hear the groans who moan that where would UH be if not for those conferences – all the team/schools are laughing all the way to the bank – best permanent source of income for the schools

now, with the NCAA tournament, NCAA pays all the expenses for hotel, airfare, etc? players mentioned a $65 stipend each day to cover food expenses?

what are the chances, slim to none in my book, that UH will ever host a MVB championship tournament? if that ever happens, I will donate $1,000 to UH MVB program.

    Imua warriors!!

  48. Tiki808 May 4, 2015 10:41 pm

Thanks for the explanation on NCAA covering for the expenses. Still, MPSF was formed for a tighter more stiff competition. Public support is still the number one area of where funding for these events to continue. It will have to be David Matlin’s job to assess the UHAD dept.’s performance. Win, lose, tie, whatever? Quarterback?

  49. st. anthony trojan May 4, 2015 11:26 pm

Well me not understand all how they split proceeds… but be ok.. if the 1/4 finals are its own entity.. n not all of them lumped into one at end… quarters…semi n finals…

but seems the way it was explained… we would share just here the 1/4.. n not with the rest of them …semis.. as it would be another deal by it self…
