Away they go …

away2-1

The volleyball Warriors were scheduled to depart this morning in advance of Thursday’s MPSF semifinal match against Pepperdine.

The Warriors reported to school this morning for the 5 a.m. bus ride to the airport. Middle blocker Taylor Averill was soaked when he arrived at the Stan Sheriff Center parking lot.

“When you’re living in Manoa and it’s raining constantly, (the rain will) get you after a while,” Averill said, smiling.

As for the playoff match, Averill said: “We’re stoked. We worked so hard. It’s rewarding to be in this position to be fighting for a spot in the NCAA tournament.”

But you can’t take the Rainbow out of the Warrior!
    Travel well Warriors!

  4. A-House April 28, 2015 7:43 am

The UH MVB team will prevail over all!!!!!!

too bad that UCI’s facility will NOT have as many as there would have been at the SSC – yet, hopefully many Hawaii residents or expats or former UH students/athletes will be there to represent against Pepperdine and whomever wins the other match.

OK, ST, who is that “cutie” across Coach Zarkowic (sp).

  5. A-House April 28, 2015 7:50 am

I still have a difficult time accepting the fact that the former AD and HC will occupy space at UH – lower or upper campus – for 30 days – paying according to their contract is fine, but to still be on campus?

there is NO bridge to burn as their termination is final and there is no opportunity for either to return to UH in a “higher” position.

let it go already! no can, just like the women who fought for the right to vote; the men and women who forged the way for the Civil Rights Act; the Nisei who fought for a country who turned its back.

it’s just a personal vendetta for righteousness. A men – no me Buddhist!!

The Rainbow Warrior volleyball team has been great to watch this year. In addition to wishing them the best of luck for the conference matches and hopefully beyond, I am looking forward to next season and renewing season tickets. Let’s go Bows!

    RE: A-House #5

Yeah, it amazes me that they still have to give them a *new* office even though they are technically finished with UH. Like you said before, if I got fired, I doubt my employer would let me stick around.

    TAKE MY MONEY, PLEASE!

After capturing the Big West title, the University of Hawaii water polo team was paired with USC in a first-round match at the NCAA championship UH is one of the ten teams at the championship match.

So, I’ll put up to $200 to match any donation of $25.00 or more to the Wahine Water Polo team through Coaches Choice.

    https://www.crowdrise.com/WomensWaterPolo

(You can also retrieve the web address through UH Athletics Webpage = hit the “donate”, “Coaches Choice” and then Womens Water Polo.)

  18. bowwar April 28, 2015 9:18 am

Good luck to the Men’s VB team…It will be a tough environment to play in, but if they bring their A game, they should do well.

We gotta show some Aloha and compassion folks…Although “awkward”, the contracts for the two gentlemen does not end for another month, so they should be able to “work” for the UH till then. Both guys are “decent” people, who did their best for UH/State of Hawaii, so we wish them the best. If they can assist the school with pending issues or assist us in moving the school forward, then bless them accordingly. I hope both guys are able to find employment somewhere…

  19. haka April 28, 2015 9:22 am

I have a non-sports related questions for some of our ex or even current military Tsaikos—I read the that commanding office, a Colonel, of Camp Smith was relived of his duties and his command this week. Obviously, it is a serious action to be relived of this position, so how serious is it, and what are the typical (if there are typical) actions for which a person of this position is relived of duties?

  25. jimmy the lock April 28, 2015 10:23 am

There was a Col. @ Kaneohe Marine Corp base that was released of his duties due to loss of trust and confidence in his ability to lead.

  26. BigFan April 28, 2015 10:35 am

    #23, relived=relieved. spelling police, lol.

  27. BigFan April 28, 2015 10:45 am

#21, don’t bachi the Warriors, Manoa not in the inundation zone. lol.

  28. jimmy the lock April 28, 2015 10:48 am

    BigFan,

You never know, look what happened in Utah. So I figure get it out of the way and put the jinx back on Pepperdine.

  29. tom April 28, 2015 10:48 am

THANKS GUYS – Boolakanaka, DPK, Haka, tom-warriornation!!!
You made my day! (My wallet is lighter).

But the Coach still needs your help. Two Championships in three years deserves help and that equipment she wants will really help.

Don’t mean to hog the Blog but some people were wondering about Coaches Choice and the website it goes through.

Got this from Jon Kobayashi (AKA)

“Network for Good is the non-profit partner contracted by AKA’s crowdfunding vendor to support the Coaches’ Choice program. They will send you a donation receipt for your records. Accordingly, your donation will appear on your credit card statement under the name ‘Network for Good’. Please know that Coaches’ Choice is an AKA program that directly supports the University of Hawai’i Coaches and their greatest needs

On behalf of all of us at AKA and University of Hawai’i Athletics, I would like to extend a heartfelt mahalo to you for helping to improve the lives of our valued student-athletes. Through Coaches’ Choice, your donation benefits our athletic teams by purchasing items they need the most. Since Coaches’ needs are constantly changing, I encourage you to come back ofte

    Aloha,
    Jon A. Kobayashi

  32. jimmy the lock April 28, 2015 11:45 am

    A-House,

Just curious, did you go to the couple of Thursday Warrior home openers a few years ago? Was against USC twice.

“Fight On” playing in the background…

  34. A-House April 28, 2015 11:57 am

    boola – your #23:

it basically ends that person’s military career

most COLs would submit their resignation as they will have the 20 year minimum years of service

  35. A-House April 28, 2015 12:00 pm

    tom:

Coach Maureen should have received my donation by now – mailed on Monday, but it’s payable to UH Foundation; not coaches choice.

  36. Boolakanaka April 28, 2015 12:01 pm

Hmmmn, so it’s a major offense, in terms of lack of management oversight or decision making?

  37. A-House April 28, 2015 12:02 pm

    ST:

any “breaking news” on one or two DL?

any progress report on the JC kid from the Big Island who played RB a few times?

  38. A-House April 28, 2015 12:03 pm

    boola:

yep, unfortunately military decisions such as this in non-transferrable to a certain university in the Pacific Ocean

  59. cappie the dog April 28, 2015 5:35 pm

    55.

I recently watched a very, very, very long documentary on the Marcos regime, and I find it very disappointing(and embarrassing) that Governor Ariyoshi would be friends with somebody, who while not Pol Pot, was indeed a dictator.

But, by default, I have to go with the Bushes.

    Get ready for Jeb.

  60. Manoa Mist April 28, 2015 5:37 pm

    Yo Boola.
Military brat here. As to the commander being relieved of his duties, could be a lot of things. He could be a drunk, on drugs, fraternizing (boning) with enlisted personnel, blowing his pCard like he was Billy Kenoi or other financial considerations, threatening his subordinates, etc.. any unethical or immoral or unprofessional action.
It’s not common for the commander to go out like this, usually those dudes are hard chargers life takers and heart breakers. Discipline is their life. Usually.

  61. Intoface April 28, 2015 6:10 pm

Max is a captain, looks like a starter to me.

  62. 3-Prong April 28, 2015 6:37 pm
