Lifetime memberships
During last night’s MPSF quarterfinal match, nobody cheered more enthusiastically — well, except for Stretch, PowderPuff and Kolby Kanetake’s family — than Jeff Hall.
As an assistant coach and then associate head coach, Hall played a large role in assembling the Warrior team that now will play Pepperdine in the MPSF semifinals. Hall also was the point recruiter for a 2015 men’s volleyball class that is widely regarded as the nation’s best.
With a strong endorsement from Charlie Wade, Hall was named the head coach for sand volleyball and associate head coach for women’s volleyball. That meant leaving the Warriors … sort of. Hall and his family still attend every home match. They still cheer.
That Warrior-for-life atmosphere is ingrained in the program. Former players and their families still are considered part of the team. Josh Walker spent the past week attending practices while preparing for the birth of his daughter. Mauli‘a LaBarre comes around, sometimes still in his police uniform after his shift. Alan Hackbarth is at several matches, even if he no longer dances during timeouts. The Wilton family also remains supportive.
Success can be measured not just in records, but in the depth of loyalty.

I should have noticed the signs. But I’m old and dense, among other maladies.
There were players’ family and close friends in the stands at Aloha Stadium on Friday night.
There were referees and down markers. And not just regular refs. We’re talking Frank White-giving-a-pep-talk refs. And officials, not student managers, holding the down markers.
The coordinators were in the coaches’ booth on the loge level.
But then, photographers were forbidden from shooting during the scrimmage or team drills. And while I was taking notes, UH officials weren’t keeping stats.
But then after the scrimmage, the players were enthusiastic about their play. In a regular practice? Hmmm.
And then when I got home, I emptied my pockets and found a crumpled paper. It was a program, with rosters.
Darn. That was the spring fling.

What a game! My wife even watched the re-run at 11:00pm – kinda hard to sleep with her yelling and screaming at the screen. I told her that I thought we would win again in the re-run.

I thought the home matches goes to the highest remaining seed in the MPSF playoffs? Should Hawaii be hosting again against Pepperdine as the second seed?Maybe I missed something?

So much for home court advantage.
At least I watched it from the distance of my television.

The ballpark will hold it.
But no, it didn’t, as Louisiana Tech players ran onto the field as an eerie silence floated throughout Rainbow Stadium, interrupted only by 20 or so odd Bulldogs hollering in jubilation, while our guys, including pitcher S.S., walked off the artificial turf in the opening game of the 2009 WAC Baseball Tournament.
We’re talking about the number nine hitter.
This is why we have to celebrate what the women’s water polo team did tonight.
They hosted a conference tournament, and WON, not come close, actually won the damn thing, and helped reverse some of the cumulative angst that Hawaii fans experience year after year.
Awesome atmosphere.
Why does the Coaches Choice fundraising site show only $275 in contributions to Laura Beeman’s Wahine Basketball wish list? Previously it showed nearly $6,000 in contributions to Wahine Basketball (including $100 from yours truly) which exceeded the goal. What gives??
There is probably a number of reasons for the friends and family “scrimmage” which featured closed access regarding filming and some other caveats. I think thereis also a reason for the roster with accurate heights and weights not being updated. I honestly believe that there will be some big surprises come the fall notonlyin terms of schemes but also in terms of player development. I could care less how this unfolds as long as it unfolds with “W’s”!!!!!!! Go Warriors!!!
