Saturday finale: BYU 3, Hawaii 2

I will be at SandBows tournament so likely won’t be able to update the match in Provo until late.

Very unlikely that UCSD will be UCI so Hawaii will be the second seed going into next week’s tournament and host Long Beach State. Still a big match for the Warriors in terms of the RPI. They are currently at No. 4.

UCLA’s win over Stanford last night gave the Bruins the last playoff spot. UCLA will be at UCI

Saturday links the same as Friday. Match time 3 p.m. HST

I was wondering why Irvine has the tiebreaker advantage over UH when they both won & lost when they played each other – does it have something to do w/the total score difference?

  2. Setaone April 18, 2015 11:26 am

    Anything happen with Nikki Taylor?

  3. Kazu April 18, 2015 12:10 pm

2 According to Diggin Na Wahine Taylor hurt and Sammie Brown to replace her.
Bummers hope its not something like last year.

  4. ThatsJack April 18, 2015 1:03 pm

Won’t Heather Boyan, who is listed as a Senior, be participating in the Senior Night ceremonies? Only the other three Seniors, Sammie Brown, Brittany Tiegs and Olivia Urban are listed to be recognized on Senior Night.

  5. kahuna April 18, 2015 1:12 pm

#1 I believe UC Irvine has the tie breaker because they beat us in 3 and we beat them in 4.

As for Boyan…maybe she has one more year left. If she never redshirted at her former school, she may have an additional year to play. I think that is kind of like Amber Kaufman. She finished her indoor vball career but stayed for two years to high jump with the UH track team since she did not redshirt while at UH.

  6. ThatsJack April 18, 2015 1:45 pm

Thanks Kahuna for the explanation on Boyan.

  7. warriorfan April 18, 2015 1:47 pm

These sand matches should be easy for UH so hopefully, Taylor is just resting.

Boyan for sure is playng next year as a grad student.

  8. warriorfan April 18, 2015 1:49 pm

Even though I am still bummed about yesterday’s loss at least UH got a commitment from Colton Cowell from King Kekaulike, according to volleytalk.

  9. R.M April 18, 2015 1:52 pm

last year they rest Tiegs on there last home game. Hope nothing is serious tape job is on the right arm

  10. warriorfan April 18, 2015 3:24 pm

More errors, ugh, this team is just giving away points.

  11. warriorfan April 18, 2015 3:30 pm

Okay blocking and defense has definitely picked up compared to yesterday and Siki seems to be back to normal.

  12. warriorfan April 18, 2015 3:33 pm

Jennings has been a little off, hope he calms down. Much better start than yesterday though.

  13. Ninja808 April 18, 2015 3:42 pm

Watching the steaming live Sat game. UH takes set 1 25-22 I believe. Set 2, BYU leading 8-5. Struggling this 2nd set but definitely better then last night

  14. warriorfan April 18, 2015 3:59 pm

Hitting and serving errors, this team’s achilles heel for the past three years, It’s coming back to hurt them big time this weekend.

  15. warriorfan April 18, 2015 4:02 pm

UH was fine until a string of hitting errors did them in. Hitting straight into the meat of the block is not smart.

  16. Ninja808 April 18, 2015 4:02 pm

UH looses set 2. Argh c’mon boys, lets get it together!!!

  17. Cindy Luis April 18, 2015 4:16 pm

UH wins Set 1 25-22, BYU pulls out Set 2 25-21.

  18. Cindy Luis April 18, 2015 4:25 pm

    3. Taylor, who spent a few days with the indoor team this week, is resting her sore elbow. She won’t play Sunday. She tweeted it in indoor practice and again during sand. She’ll see what the doctor says Monday.

  19. Cindy Luis April 18, 2015 4:29 pm

Spieler and Urban finish second in the gold bracket, lose to Grand Canyon=2 21-15, 21-15
    All-UH final for the silver, Tucker-Schucht def. Bogan-Schreiber 21-19, 21-14.

  20. Cindy Luis April 18, 2015 4:41 pm

    Warriors win Set 3 25-23

  21. warriorfan April 18, 2015 4:41 pm

Ok thank god for Brook in that third sed, after a bad 2nd set he came alive and UH needed it.

  22. warriorfan April 18, 2015 4:55 pm

Another bad rotation, and no surprise it’s with Siki and Holt in the front row.
Not looking good in this fourth set.

  23. warriorfan April 18, 2015 5:00 pm

Really wonder why Coach Wade is not trying out Scott Hartley hitting. Is he hurt or something?Fey and Siki are struggling out there.

  24. 'ohanaInBellingham April 18, 2015 5:04 pm

Why is UH not doing what BYU is by bringing six hands to the net when the pass or set is high and going to an obvious hitter?

  25. Cindy Luis April 18, 2015 5:08 pm

    BYU wins Set 4 25-18

  26. wotfut April 18, 2015 5:10 pm

    UH is playing sloppy.

  27. wotfut April 18, 2015 5:21 pm

    Come on UH.

  28. warriorfan April 18, 2015 5:26 pm

Again this rotation with Jennings up front and Siki and Holt his only options in the front, it’s killing UH.

Wade should have inserted Hartley a long time ago!!

  29. jmy April 18, 2015 5:26 pm

UH looks very tentative…absolutely no fight or killer instinct…

  30. Cindy Luis April 18, 2015 5:31 pm

    BYU wins match 15-13

  31. warriorfan April 18, 2015 5:32 pm

Again I blame this on the coaching!

  32. jmy April 18, 2015 5:34 pm

Well, this road trip was a flop…I know Smith is a tough venue, but Irvine won twice, so it’s not impossible…Very disappointing end to the regular season…Hopefully this doesn’t affect momentum heading into the MPSF tournament…

  33. 'ohanaInBellingham April 18, 2015 5:35 pm

The season is not lost, but now everyone knows what it takes to sweep UH.

  34. surfboy April 18, 2015 5:35 pm

Scott Hartley should have gone in a long time ago for Ziki..just my opionion

  35. Brandon April 18, 2015 5:38 pm

I was HAPPY sedore was telling the crowd off. You don’t boo players. Thats super classless.

  36. Brandon April 18, 2015 5:42 pm

Not to mention how ANNOYING BYU libero is. He show boats more than Hawaii, and Hawaii show boats a lot

  37. islandman April 18, 2015 6:02 pm

BYU outhit, out blocked and outplayed Hawaii.

  38. warriorfan April 18, 2015 6:17 pm

Just a horrible weekend all around, Siki played brutal. Sedore made too many errors. Fey was good friday but awful today. The Averill and Franciskovic connection was shaky.

Looks like the at large is a long shot unless UH and Irvine both make the final, so UH just needs to win the mpsf tournament in Irvine which will be tough, especially if the team and especially Siki, doesn’t get out of this slump.

  39. haleiwacrossfitter April 18, 2015 8:00 pm

Again…why no Hartley?!?! Dude has been a STUD in matches he has played. I don’t understand why he is not playing. BYU played well, not taking anything away from them, but come on. To not even see Hartley on the floor is puzzling to me.

This weekend made me hate BYU even more…if that was even possible. Their fans are classless and their players just as much.

  40. oneseason April 19, 2015 6:09 am

BYU played well. Their fans are classless and their seating proximity inappropriate. I doubt it made much difference if any, but it show a lot about the character of the school and fans. Can’t wait for the MPSF matches.

  41. Cindy Luis April 19, 2015 7:16 am

thank you for all your comments.
    32. UCI did win twice but the BYU team that UCI beat was not the same BYU team that UH saw. Sander given more swings than last month plus size-wise UCI has a better matchup with BYU.

    36. I don’t feel that UH showboats. not compared to the rest of the league. It is a little surprising about Reyes since that is definitely not his father’s style.

    40. I agree that the seating proximity is a problem but it’s like that around the league. UCI fans were horrible when Wahine played there last year, so close that they weren’t allowing UH to pepper during timeouts and were standing next to the Wahine players on the sidelines. I think the constant taunting would wear on anyone.

  42. uhfan April 19, 2015 7:28 am

Sand team got a commitment from Sydney Kidd
