Spring break

The Warriors completed the offseason conditioning program and, coinciding with the school’s spring break, will go on hiatus for a week.

There still are some tasks to be completed. The Warriors are expected to fill two more scholarship openings, including landing another DT/NT type.

The Warriors’ first of 15 spring practices is on Saturday, April 4.

The volleyball Warriors are ranked No. 1 nationally and are UH’s only remaining active indoor team this academic year. Still, it might be difficult to book practice time in the Stan Sheriff Center ahead of next weekend’s four-match road trip. The Hawaii Regional Robotics Competition will be held later this week in the SSC.

Hoping the coaching staff good luck in getting a NT/DT. Sure could use one to add depth.

  2. kapakahi March 21, 2015 9:19 am

With Alo-Wily flipping to UNLV, UH hasn’t yet signed any NT/DT types…….so probably should be trying to land 2 NT/DT types for the 2015 season……to replace Samia, Friel & Malepeai……

    ST:

any special reason attached to the Hawaii Warrior World is the “old” first Hawaiian bank” logo?

I hope the first act by the ne UHAD is moving the Colorado game back to Saturday and then say NO to the mwc on moving the Air Force game to Thursday.

Any Thursday nite game is a $$$ loser for UH and initiates the “uneasy” feeling amongst its supporters that may cause them to finally say NO to buying season tickets.

Like my classmate told me that Kauai fans regularly filled 3 buses for UH games on the road – that’s 180 people!

3prong…on NW news, sold our last two places in Portland–so won’t be drinking my fav IPAs for a bit. Market is hot up there, both places went in one day. Giving thought to getting a place in Seattle though–several nieces are at Udub so, I might still have the NW connection.

    GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!

Since Boolakanaka made his generouss offer in # 7, I better post the reason and site again!

“Coaches are constantly faced with program needs that they may or may not have the financial resources for. Securing everyday items to support their practices or athletes’ game experiences may be a struggle during these challenging times. That’s where the UH Coaches’ Choice Donor program comes in. Coaches’ Choice is a way to give donors the ability to contribute as little as $10 directly to program needs. Giving is fast, easy and secure with Coaches’ Choice.”

    http://www.koaanuenue.org/

And BOOLA, I havwe already tossed in a few pennys but I’ll take you up on your offer. (Thank goodness for social security!)

    3-PRONG #4

In your way, you are supporting the UH – renew of tickets, premium price, parking eetc.

It’s better than some of these characters who keep telling us that they are not renewing or contributing until we start winning, get rid of the AD, the Coach, the Coaches, the janitors, the high prices of food and drink and all other possible excuses.

I was at UH Class of 1954 – but it was about that time that UH gave up football.
That could happen again. So why chance it? SUPPORT NOW!

  10. Boolakanaka March 21, 2015 10:02 am

Tom, I’ll check the link in a day or so, and make good on having my wife, ahem, excuse me, me cover those donations….lol

  13. SteveM March 21, 2015 10:52 am

    Good morning everyone!

A-House’s #3 led me to Ferd’s column in the S-A this morning.
    Grrrr.

Moving the Colorado game to Thursday at their request is OK, but what did we get out of it? Did Ben Jay figure we would lose a lot of walk-up ticket sales and even season ticket sales…and try to negotiate some compensation for honoring their request? Probably a rhetoric question from an A.D. who does not know the fans and tries to close red and yellow sections at the stadium to save on clean-up costs. Penny-wise and pound-ignorant.

It is imperative that the next A.D. understand the lives and attitudes of fans and the shifting demographics.

The MWC Air Force game is no choice if forced. But instead of just requesting that we not be televised/moved to Thursday, the A.D. should be on the phone to the MWC playing “Let’s Make a Deal” better than Monte Hall.

    10. Boola, you are a good man and inspired me to donate. Happy to have your match. Sent my $ to Tommy Heffernan at strength and conditioning as it seems the donations are low there. Aloha to you.

  15. HawaiiMongoose March 21, 2015 12:04 pm

I just made my donation to the Training Room. I think those folks do an awesome job helping the athletes overcome injuries and get back into action.

  16. Boolakanaka March 21, 2015 1:00 pm

Ok, I got everyone–except for AL–to which program did you make your donation?

  24. oneseason March 21, 2015 4:58 pm

This year’s UH football season ticket renewal notices were mailed out around the 6th of March with a deadline of the 30th of March. I like the early opportunity to renew, and I think it is smart to allow four payments. For the 2012-2014 seasons, it looks like the renewal deadlines were in May. UH has extended football season ticket renewal in the recent past, but I wonder about shifting the renewal deadline this much. If they open up season ticket sales to the general public early, they may annoy existing season ticket holders by selling their (old) seats. And if they extend the deadline, it looks like they their planning is not so great. Hopefully folks are renewing … only 9 more days left before the deadline.

  25. Boolakanaka March 21, 2015 5:03 pm

Duly noted Al, I’ll make the appropriate arrangements! And just for today, I offer this to the boys to the south:

    “’Ray ‘ray ‘ray
    Tiger, tiger, tiger
    Sis, sis, sis,
    Boom, boom, boom, ah!
    Princeton! Princeton! Princeton!”

  27. HawaiiMongoose March 21, 2015 8:07 pm

Boola, sir, you are gentleman and a scholar.

No big deal though, the important thing is that we are each doing what we can to support our hometown school and the UH student-athletes who work so hard to represent all of Hawai`i.

  28. cappie the dog March 21, 2015 8:20 pm

    53. 3/20

I think Hawaii would have been a #15 seed.

Potentially, we would have faced Gonzaga, Arizona, Kansas, or Virginia.

Mamadou Ndiaye is the most interesting player in college basketball. I think UC-Irvine should have looked for him in the waning moments of the game.

It drives me crazy how so many teams go for the dramatic long-range three when the game is on the line. Such a low percentage show. Just run your offense, but with more urgency.

Baylor/Georgia State(!!!) reminded me of last year’s Hawaii/CS Northridge debacle in the Big West tournament.

Even though Hawaii lost to St. Mary’s, I’m relieved that Shawna Lei Kuehu went out strong. I totally forgot the game was on. I thought it was a Saturday game. I was spared the angst of a comeback coming up short, and biased referees.

  29. cappie the dog March 21, 2015 8:21 pm

    Oh, yeah.

Did anybody do something really inane like pick Iowa State to reach the tournament final?

I stopped looking at my bracket.

  30. AkamaiOkole March 21, 2015 9:40 pm

    Great Evening All!

Ran into A-sports at a trade show today.

Nice to see one of the TBT’s (Throw-back Tsaikos)

    Tsigh…

Personally I thought that Shawna was kept on the bench too long. They went down big time in the start or the 2nd half while she was still sitting……………I stopped watching when they went down 16. At that point I thought that it was over, and they blew it.
I was Shocked to see that they came so far back to force overtime. Woulda- Coulda. Must have been a helluva 2nd half of the 2nd half!
They did have a terrific year.

  32. kapakahi March 22, 2015 3:51 am
