A few days ago, former UH wideout Jeremiah Cockheran received a notification letter that he — like the thousands who were Division I basketball players or FBS football players between 2003 and 2012 — was eligible for a payout as part of a settlement involving the NCAA and video-game company.
“I thought that was pretty cool,” said Cockheran, who occasionally followed news accounts of the case initiated by former UCLA basketball player Ed O’Bannon.
The lawyers, of course, get a big cut. Then there’s the distribution based on when a player was used, whether there was an avatar or a generic figure, and the popularity (success) of the team or player. A UH starter probably is entitled to several hundred dollars — a nice windfall after all these years. And more money could come depending on the outcome of another class-action suit
It’s a fair result. When I was a kid, I had an electric football game in which the “players” had the same build. I could pretend the “quarterback” was Joe Namath, although that was a reach when he was “throwing” an oval-shaped dustball. Fast-forward to 2004, when I bought my son the NCAA football game because he wanted to call plays for Timmy Chang and Chad Owens (who had a speed rating that was equal to Terrell Owens’). A Colorado-based cohort, who was a freelance consultant for a video-game company, used to call WAC writers for details on teams and players. The video likenesses were not coincidental.
It’s nice that the former players are getting their fair share. Next step would be a way to share the wealth of all those No. 15 UH jerseys sold in 2007.

IMHO he gets drafted very low if at all. I really like Kaeo’s bat and smarts but his major obstacle to being drafted is that he throws with the wrong arm so he can’t play middle infield.

The “H CLUB ATHLETIC FUND” is a new membership program from AKA which combines donations and premium seat contributions. NA KOA Football club (boosters) directly supports Rainbow Warrior football only.

Down to two. Why does the chancellor has to wait until March 31 to choose an AD. What is he going to do except you know what. And why do you have to wait until April 16 for BOR approval. Get a special meeting earlier. Good God! It’s unbelievable.

The Coaches Choice Fundraiser is interesting in that certain programs need stuff that isn’t in their budget.
Men’s Volleyball has raised the money they have requested but there are lot of programs that need your help and $$, some of them aren’t popular like volleyball, but money is needed like the strength program, training table etc. (Women’s basketball could use a few bucks too)

Let’s see if I got this straight. Search committee is recommending Maitlan (sp) and granted him an interview. Amemiya is also a consideration but was not interviewed. Bley Vroman did not personally interview Maitlan but is now tasked with making the decision. Why doesn’t Chancellor Vroman also interview all being coonsidered?
Another question that comes to mind is how would Maitlan spend the time necessary to be an effective AD if he also has to work on his bowl game and basketball tournament?

If Amemiya is chosen by Chancellor Bley-Vroman–and he doesn’t do well, then Bley-Vroman is solely to blame. If Matlin is chosen and doesn’t do well, then the committee just flopped again. Of course, I hope that either does well if chosen.
I could support either AD choice, but I still wonder why Blangiardi’s wasn’t considered…Also, why does confirmation by the BOR have to wait till April 15!?
Make sure they include public “AKA”. It’s only fair to see who else people missed over the years. No big deal. It’s just a retake or showing it again. Video-cuts.

it’s truly disappointing for me to witness such a “farce” at UH-Manoa – a Pres and Chancellor who were academically trained with little or no leadership experience and I know some will strongly disagree – if you do, then pray tell me when did they took lessons on leadership in their academic career?

A-House — as I encountered in Senior petty officer (NCO) leadership school, there are many types of categorized leadership styles. Some styles are more appropriate/effective in certain situations. Military/business/academia situations have all styles, but the ones that rise to high leadership differ greatly in different fields.
Except for government and nepotism, leaders in all fields have similar traits that allowed them to survive and rise in power. In this regard, I consider UH a private “business” and it’s leaders as capable as those in the military or business– they just have different missions and skill sets. I recognize the leadership style of high UH admin and do not see it lacking.

It is my understanding the person selected to be the next AD does not require approval from the BoR. It is an internal hire which is the sole responsibility of the Chancellor.
