UH men No. 1 in AVCA poll

Surprised that they jumped over the Ramblers and Flyers but that is the strength of the MPSF.
UH with 9 votes, 6 points ahead of No. 2, Loyola-Chicago 6, Lewis 2. Pepperdine at 4 no votes. UCI at 5 1 votes

    Charlie Wade voted:
    1. UCI
    2. Loyola
    3. Hawaii

Out of curiosity Cindy, if you were voting in a media poll, how would you rank the teams? I was thinking we’d be 2 & Loyola would hang on at #1. I also see the logic in Charlie Wade’s top 3.

I won’t say “I told you so”…just joking! I know that the coaches’ poll doesn’t really mean much, but it’s nice to get recognition…Congrats to the team & coaching staff…

    2. See the logic of Wade as well. Don’t know if I’d vote UCI 1 only because they have four losses. Don’t think Wade intended this but giving UCI the first-place vote took away enough points from the Ramblers that Hawaii finished with 255 points and Loyola 249.

    3. you just never know what people’s voting logic is.’-)
First time since Feb. 24, 2004, Warriors are No. 1. Today marks the 25th time in program history

    2. Not sure how I’d vote. If you use the NCAA tournament logic, you’d look at the last 10 games. Hawaii has won the last 10. The 2 over Pepperdine were statements.
That the Ramblers lost to the Flyers and the Flyers lost to Ohio State, which looked pretty bad in January …
That said, I agree with how the poll turned out. UH 1, L-C 2, Lewis 3, Pepperdine 4 and then UCI.

    AWESOME!! Go Bows!

Hopefully they can keep this momentum going through until the end of the conference season. Hosting throughout the MPSF tournament would be huge. Would be nice the see the SSC filled like how it was back in the day.

Awesome that UH has number 1 sand team and mens team this season, after a long drought of not being top ranked.

IMO this puts a target on their back, especially in upcoming matches against UCLA and BYU on the road so hope they rise up and go undefeated by the rest of the way.

  12. warriorfan March 16, 2015 1:36 pm

Hopefully now that they are number 1, OCsports will televise more of their matches, (over a bad baseball team’s games, no offense to them) for people that can’t go to the SSC.

Let’s prove the coaches who voted us #1 right! Imua! Go Bows!

Warriorfan, I agree with you in both #11 and #12 statement. I had the same thoughts that a #1 ranking will put a target on their backs, especially with UCLA who will play their hardest to secure a #8 spot. Hope the Warriors will be ready for them and play both hard and smart. I’d be really sad if they squandered a golden opportunity to stay ahead of Irvine.

As for televising. if OC Sports doesn’t broadcast the final two home matches, UH should never renew their contract with them. Hope the new AD will be smarter and choose a better media outlet which would televise all home matches and make them available unconditionally for all volleyball fans, men’s matches as well.

  15. kauna March 16, 2015 4:46 pm

#14….I am willing to bet my life that OC 16 will televise both match. They tend not broadcast the second of the two matches BUT the second night against Stanford will be senior night so OC 16 will be broadcasting the game. No doubt!

  16. VB808 March 16, 2015 7:17 pm

#14 Actually my friend works in the arena for OC16 when they televise games and she was telling me that it isn’t OC16 that determines when they broadcast. It’s actually UH, and she was telling me UH wanted to save $$$ so they didn’t televise games on sundays this season for the most part, not OC16 being unable to fulfill the contract.

  17. hatakeman March 16, 2015 8:59 pm

You don’t want to be No. 1 this time of the season. It only paints a big target on your back. That’s why I think Charlie voted Hawaii No. 3.

  18. Cindy Luis March 16, 2015 11:21 pm

    14. 15. etc. Or you could always look at the UH schedule online and see that the video links are there for the final two regular season matches.

  19. Cindy Luis March 16, 2015 11:23 pm

    17. Wade likely voted for UCI because the Anteaters have beaten UH 2 out of 3 matches.

on another note, Milan Zarkovic is running practice this week, which is a bye week for UH. Wade en route to Europe to recruit. Believe he said the Netherlands.
