Former UH running back Joey Iosefa is scheduled to arrive in Indianapolis today for the NFL Scouting Combine.
For Iosefa, the activities start tomorrow, with an orientation session, X-rays and interviews with teams. There will be medical tests and more interviews on Thursday. The psychological exams and bench-press tests are Friday. Field workouts, including the 40-yard dash, is set for Saturday.
Iosefa weighed 246 yesterday, a pound off his goal, but considerably less than when he was 260 at the end of the 2014 season. He hopes to weigh 240 for UH’s pro day on March 19 in San Diego.

Former UH tight end/defensive end Craig Cofer departed today for Poland. He will compete for the Bialystok Lowlanders, a member of the Polish American Football League.

It appears Taryn Hatcher is set to join Hawaii News Now as a sports anchor/reporter. She is a Rutgers graduate.
Mike Cherry served that role before joining KITV’s morning show earlier this year.

People who think Jameis is lazy clearly don’t follow college football closely enough and only pay attention to Hawaii football or whatever Hawaii kid is doing well in college.
Most people say Jameis works extremely hard and is very smart. Being immature does not mean you are lazy and dumb.

As long as Winston’s body of work is not like Johnny Manziel’s, I think he should be fine.
7. Hawaii double standard. If someone called Iosefa lazy for being over weight, you are a hater. But open season on Winston for lacking maturity.
Isaac Fleming is pretty immature too, so is he lazy?
Winston plays in a pro style offense in which he is asked to go through his progressions, change plays at line of scrimmage, throw through tight windows, make adjustments throughout game. Not many kids in year 2 are even asked to do near what FSU asks of Jameis. Andrew Luck wasn’t even asked to do what Winston was in his 2nd year.
If Winston was mature, he would be a can’t miss prospect. The only thing holding him back is maturity. Manziel, who his game is nothing alike is probably scaring teams a little because of maturity issues. I wouldn’t mix that up with being lazy though.
I don’t know if Jameis is lazy or not. I do know that Bruddha is no 32-33 waist.
That said, I played with plenty bruddhas that were all-world body, and no-world on the field. However, there were an equal amount of guys that were Hercules like in both the weight room and the field: Niko, Anthony Woodsen, Johnny Taylor…
Maybe he is just a soft bodytype–but that said, in this day and age of 24-7 athletic performance training centers, it does concern me that he looks so soft this close to the draft. On the other hand, Brady Quinn looks like superman, and played in the NFL like my 4th grade niece. Too many teams get in the mode of their own institutional hubris and think, with the right support, the right system, the right mentors…etc–that they can change the person. Anyone know what Joey thinks he is going to run? Is he projecting as RB or FB. I think he could make it as a RB but it probably depends on his 40 time. I would guess the slowest he could run and play running back would be 4.65-4.7
im thinking Joey probably runs a 4.85 or something around there. his futures is special teams, FB/HB and maybe occasionally a 3rd down back. as long as he can stay healthy and be versatile, he can make the NFL.

I watched the game between FSU and Oregon with a friend. We both love what Marcus accomplished but comparing the 2, we both agreed that Jameis would probably be better suited for the pro game than Marcus, although the pro offense seems to be changing slowly, maybe favoring Mariota.
#22- I have been trying for days to figure Wynn and Mathews out. I do not think Wynn is returning but that is not confirmed. They also hired Bailey so unless he got demoted I don’t think he will be back. And as for Mathews I haven’t heard anything and would assume he is coming back.
Gigi’s picture looks like one I have seen of the former Reverend Jim Jones of Jonestown fame or infamy…anyone else concur?
Could be possible that Wynn may be moving to coach the TEs? The assistant from Idaho, Alfred Pupunu, would also be a good choice to coach TEs.

Wynn was never the offensive coordinator. He was the qb coach who called the plays in the booth.

I’m pulling for Iosefa to make it, he is a power runner with good acceleration vs college competition. At 6′ 245 is more fullback size and vs NFL defenders the punishment will be brutal. I remember when Nate Ilaoa came out he weighed around 240 at combine? Ran 4.85 in 40, had a good agility run cone drill, I really thought he was good enough to make a team, but got cut last cuts by Eagles, I don’t think he ever played again in NFL. Vikings have a Polynesian RB college at Utah, 5’11 235, not flashy but solid all around back, downhill power runner with good hands for 3rd down duty, a backup his first 3 years, started bunch of games this year, alternated with rookie speed back McKinnon. #22 “OLD SCHOOL DAVE” … I heard that Jordan Wynn has cleaned out his office and is or will be returning to his hometown of San Diego. Haven’t heard about Luke Matthews. I feel bad for Jordan Wynn as he did pour his heart and soul into this. He was just too young / inexperienced to be put into that position by Norm. My feeling is that Norm wanted someone he could have control over.

If that’s the case then wouldn’t you say Wynn wasn’t given the opportunity to fully control the play calling, thus not showing his true potential? I always thought that while it was stated he was the “play caller”, I think the plays that he was allowed to call were at times controlled by the HC.
I really thought he had some great moments like in the Washington game when he went for it on 4th with that reversal. The play was genius since the guy was wide open, but of course we all remember that the throw was short.
Andrew–I can’t speak to the dynamics and the depth of their relationship. What I will say, that like most any relationship, both professional and/or personal, the depth and quality is tethered to trust and confidence. The greater the trust, well the more autonomy you will have….
As an old boss once told me, the amount of slack on the rope you provide your staff so that they can succeed, is also the same amount they need to hang themselves.

A good play call in my book is one that is successful. There is always a risk to reward ratio that can be tempting, however as it was in that case. Maybe a “run up the middle ” would have been a better call?
Too bad about Jordan Wynn, if the reports coming out are true. Tough situation to be thrown into at such a young age. However, I get the feeling that he’ll resurface in the near future, maybe at some Pac-12 or rival MWC school. One step backward, two steps forward, as the saying goes.

The play call in that situation was fine. The defense was not expecting that thus the receiver being wide open. The player however screwed up and did not make the wide open pass. The play failing was not on the play caller, it was on the execution by the player. Then again I guess you could argue that they should have had someone else throwing the ball like Ewaliko, but the set up of the play otherwise was fine.
Had he made the throw and catch, everyone now is saying how much of a genius he is for that play. The only reason why it is being questioned now is because the guy screwed up the throw and of course we all know what happened on the next play.
A good play may be a good play, however a good play CALL is one that results in a
successful play. Just ask Pete.
Here’s to hoping the Board of Regents can pull a rabbit out of the hat. Ben Jay or whoever was directing Arnold’s termination without cause seems to have presented the BoR will a significant and potentially very expensive challenge. Still remember Norm Chow called Jordan Wynn smart but stubborn when it came to game strategy. Point is the offense this past is 100% owned by Chow. Wynn got a good lesson on what works and doesn’t work in today’s Div 1 football.

Getting mighty tired of the lack of accountability from BOR down to Chancellors Office. i don’t really blame the AD to a great degree since someone else seems to be pulling his chain. To top it off Portnoy (BOR), comes on replacing BC on the nmorning news segment and says that finding coaches is not one of the main tasks of the AD…SAY WHAT? he said that the AD’s main job is to run dept like a Business and fundraise. While that maybe true, just who’s job and responsibility is it Mr. Portnoy, to find coaches? Ok, I feel better now…

yep, gotta be a so-called “prominent” person, in the public eyes as seen by the selection committee, who is at or near the top of whatever endeavor/business he/she is in and appears to be a strong leader/thinker, yet when he/she becomes a BOR member suddenly reverts to its inner-self and arrives at/supports what I call crazy decisions – yes, they are privy to many pieces of information not in the minds of “common folk”, but individually or collectively appear to operate “achi kochi” and arrive at no logical decisions
perhaps they read the BOR mantra, but forgot what their prime directive is and, IMHO, that’s to provide broad guidelines/direction to the President – yet, much like the “selection committees” create committee after committee to research what’s the problem and arrive at option(s) for consideration/action
perhaps, they should call UH Pres. to explain why certain coaches contracts are still sitting at the “acting” chancellor’s office and not leave it up to the BOR “athletic” committee to research why – here, here, that’s MICRO-MANAGING!!! – never mind that certain portions of Hawaii {those sports minded fans} who want certain coaches to “stick around”.

Re-Birdies, second hand information and observations from people in the know
I think it was last Friday that a poster, here, wrote to the effect that the school didn’t want go though a lengthy legal battle with handling the Price departure, which resulted in a payout.
This I believe. This makes sense.
That person quoted birdies and is a long time poster here.
However when the initial information surfaced regarding the Price departure a person in the know, here, wrote that the former OC/assistant coach left for personal reasons, citing something to the effect of having to do with family problems….which contradicts what the person wrote last Friday, who cited his birdies (I presume good, trusted sources?).
The point is that a person on the outside looking in doesn’t know who to trust, which I’m getting the impression that the people in the know “sometime” may know the truth but write in a manner to veil the truth so that Chow/football program can save face. Me? I rather know the truth.
If you don’t believe in little birdies, then please skip this post.
As previously mentioned a few days ago…a little birdie told me that a considerably large sum will be donated to the UH. Just over the seven figure amount, making that donors tally 2.0 as in that many million.

Polly,”Are versus Is”–I can’t tell you how many times we got into a spirited debate over this in Halawa Housing. (never) In short, “are” vs. “is” for proper nouns which sound plural (such as band names) also it relates to subject verb agreement. The “rule” is that if the two preceding verbs are combined into a single activity, then the singular form of the joining verb (IS) should be used. If the two preceding verbs are independent actions, then the plural form of the joining verb (ARE) should be used. Or is for a single action or are for a plural verb.
For instance–The game plan is on the table. Or–The defense and special teams are practicing today.
In regards to the above sentence. Field workouts, including the 40 yard dash, are set for Saturday. ( as two or more subject are being connected) But, don’t take grammar lessons from me, I went to public school my entire life.
