Ppd. because of weather

Because the weather knocked out power four times — Four! — and I’m waiting for the milk to spoil, the new blog post will be up this afternoon.

Apologies.

And how about HECO replacing wooden poles in windy areas?

  4. gigi-hawaii February 14, 2015 10:21 am

Power in Foster Village was knocked out once between 1:45 am – 2:00 am this morning. Not too bad.

    Newspaper was delivered on time.

Heavy rain right now, though. Time to turn off the automatic sprinkler.

    Cheers!

    Great Morning All!

Hoping for steady chikara for all.

    Go Warriors!

Awoken at 2:45 am by policeman pounding on door. Telephone next to house had blown over, tipping about 45 degrees over street. About 15 years ago HECo had the termite eaten center filled with plastic – that was all that was holding it up last night, except for the power line to my house that was stretched so tight that the support cable snapped.

HECo splinted the post so it is only tilting about 10 degrees now. Have power and cable, but have had a multitude of brown-outs and short power outages. I hope HECo returns to fix the snapped support cable, I’ll wait until tomorrow or Monday to call it in because they are probably swamped now.

  7. nutmegger February 14, 2015 10:37 am

    Telephone = telephone pole
    post = telephone pole

(didn’t get much sleep last night…)

  8. Akamai Okole February 14, 2015 10:39 am

Get underground utilities at my house.

When rain hard we try not to imagine where all the water goes…and what it does when it gets there! 😈

PPJ2: the game is supposed to start around 1:00pm. Hmmm, what if they cancel the game? What are we going to do with all the food Finance Factors (obvious plug …hehe) is sponsoring? Guess the team will just eat a lot earlier.

Well I am disappointed that coach Powell is leaving us. He seemed like a good one. But I also still feel that new blood is needed in the coaching staff. Winning and losing become habits. This coaching staff has had the habit of losing. Now of course many will say that the HC is the one whose “habits” have the most influence. I would not disagree. But if we have to have the same HC next year we are better off with a fresh support staff of coaches. I say this with no disrespect to those coaches who were here, contributed and are now gone. I appreciate their efforts. But for whatever combination of circumstances it did not work out in the win column. As for coach Chow. Best to try to stay in the background. Whatever you were doing or not doing simpy didn’t work. Be a good CEO and let the worker bees do the work. If they winding up winning you can go ahead and take credit for being smart enough to hire them. If it is instead “follow Norm” I fear the path will not be to the win column but to the unemployment line. It should be an interesting year.

  11. Old School Dave February 14, 2015 12:02 pm

Mahalo to Coach Powell for all of hard work and dedication these past 3 seasons. Can’t blame him for the chance to return home, coach at his alma mater, coach in the Pac-12, and do it for twice the amount of salary that he currently earns at UH.

Lance Samuseva would be a good choice to coach the D-Line. Braddah has paid his dues as a GA and intern. Come on, Coach Chow, appoint some former UH players on your staff!! No scared em!!

  12. Old School Dave February 14, 2015 12:08 pm

Anyone know what Richard Torres is doing, now? He was a former defensive secondary GA at UH. Is he still at Kaiser High? He’s another young and capable former UH player who would make a great position coach, IMHO.

  13. DaveLetterMan February 14, 2015 12:14 pm

    Morning Tsaikos!
Eh 3-Prong, your license plate is “3-PRONG”?

Wind & rain horrible in Temple Valley..Two power outages and hardly slept…I hope the Warriors take it out on Fullerton!

  16. BigFan February 14, 2015 12:51 pm

#12, I thought Richard Torres was helping Rich Miano with his camps. Don’t know if that is a full time job or just helping out.

Does chikara have anything to do with Shikara? If so I want some!

  18. Inyoface February 14, 2015 1:05 pm

Everyone saying all the coaches leaving is a horrible thing are delusional. If we came off a championship season, I can see that argument, but we haven’t! We can only go up or down and if we go down we all know what will happen. There’s nothing to lose at this point.

  19. Bowwar February 14, 2015 1:26 pm

Did I get deleted?? I hope they’re not mistaking me for Warbow…

  20. Andrew February 14, 2015 1:34 pm

    18.

If anything it shows that Chow has been picking quality coaches on his staff if schools like Utah and Wisconsin want them too.

ST ~ My cousin called and sed she saw a guy that looked like you chasing a wind blown trash can down the street. When she said the man was yelling for the can to “STOP!” I knew she had truly experienced a close encounter with the Blogmeister.

It’s good to see some people fawning over Powell.

Not me. I’m glad to see him go. For all I care he can go over there and sink that ship, too.

The defensive line was the sorest part of the team. Tony would have done better.

Regarding the defensive line Powell coached, name me a player that overachieved? None. In fact his players underachieved. No first teamers, a few token second teamers…just a lot of hype…what I saw were a lot of his players incurring silly personal fouls (at inopportune times), playing out of position…not playing assignment football. And this is the coach people are fawning over…okay.

Powell came in raw/GA. There’s nothing I can see that distinguishes him from other coaches, including recruiting (look at UH’s ranking the last 3 years or better yet do you think there’s a future NFL player that Powell recruited to Hawaii-No.).

Even, at times, when I see the coach on the sidelines-another fish out of water type. Other coaches would be coaching up and motivating their players-I didn’t see that in Powell.

People can give a shout out to Powell all they want. Fine. It doesn’t mean anything. Time will tell if Utah made the right decision at hiring a TE coach without any experience (strange).

  41. Old School Dave February 14, 2015 5:06 pm

Footballscoop jumped the gun on this story. It was reported that Utah was to hire Idaho TE coach Alfred Pupunu. Pupunu played TE at Weber State and in the NFL for a number of years and seemed like a great hire. Some Utah fans are wondering about Lewis Powell as the new TEs coach, given the fact that his playing and coaching background is on the D-Line. On the other hand, departed Utah DC Kalani Sitake (now at OSU) was a running back in college (BYU) and developed into a pretty good defensive coach.

Just gotta move on and hope that Chow can secure the services of a capable D-line coach.

  42. TOM February 14, 2015 5:49 pm

    Wahine 54-43 over Fullerton

    And no contract?

  43. islandman February 14, 2015 5:52 pm

    41. O S Dave — Powell played on the OL in the AFL, besides the DL .

  44. al February 14, 2015 6:04 pm

42…negotiations were on going. Beamer wanted more money for her assistants.

  45. C-Pop February 14, 2015 6:19 pm

Pollypicador-Tell everyone how you really feel about departing DL coach Lew Powell…Lol, you do have valid points though.

    Happy valentines folks!
Storm is always welcome, but not in my bedroom….lol.

  49. A-House February 14, 2015 8:20 pm

    Like ST said:

power out from yesterday pm – finally came back on about 4:30 pm – off around 8:3 pm – back again, off again, off again, back again, and off again about don’t know when and finally back on at 4:40 pm – I’d say nearly 12-13 or more hours with no electricity – FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!

made good use of small propane stove – made saimin around 11:15 am and Vienna sausage with dash of sugar and shoyu – ymmm for the tummm!

across the valley a huge tree fell on a house about 7am and right quick 4 large fire trucks rolled up – then a large truck with a “boom extension” showed up and they began to cut off the branches – hope no one was injured.

well, it did not help Chow with all his Utah hires as assistant coaches since all left – I like Tony Tuioti as DL coach – maybe he’ll consider, but with the Cleveland Browns, it may be tough to leave for much less salary

  50. A-House February 14, 2015 8:24 pm

hmmmm, I post about the weather and my comment is “awaiting moderation”?

hello! hello! don’t like my English? neva was good in writing/composing sentences.

any “rumors” about who the “replacement” coaches are and if another coach is leaving?

  51. A-House February 14, 2015 8:26 pm

hope the men’s BB can pull it off against CSF – why do the “bottom” teams always give UH a difficult time?

the ankle/knee injuries to Fleming and Edwards don’t look promising – reserves will have to step up!

  52. A-House February 14, 2015 8:28 pm

moderation, moderation, moderation all the time
all I want is moderation and me darling clementine!

very happy to read that the Na Wahine BB team won – hope the Molina sisters decide that UH is a good fit for them

  53. al February 14, 2015 9:26 pm

Z…lol. My auto spell did that.
Beamer. See it did it again.

    B e e m a n…learn it. Lol

  54. Z February 14, 2015 9:37 pm

That is why I turned mine off.

  55. al February 14, 2015 9:39 pm

Well…we better sign Benjy to at least a three year contract sometime soon. Somebody will offer him soon, if they haven’t already.

I believe that he is the only one who could keep this team together for next year.

  56. turfwar February 14, 2015 10:46 pm

According to football scoop UCLA just let this guy go. Has extensive dline coaching experience. http://www.uclabruins.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=30500&ATCLID=209412409

  57. cappie the dog February 14, 2015 10:53 pm

Can Hawaii please invest in a floor mop?

I have to look at the OC-16 replay, but my first impression of Mike Thomas’ injury was that he stepped on a wet spot.

Two seasons ago, I remember Iowa State fans(best visiting team fans I ever saw) wondering aloud with some concern at how UH cleans its hardwood.

  58. st. anthony trojan February 14, 2015 11:37 pm

BJ SAID….NO to the floor mop….used to watch them mop it down…the pros do that huh ??

  59. BigFan February 14, 2015 11:47 pm

#51, I wonder why he was let go. Seems like a good candidate for Hawaii although he’ll make a lot less money.

  60. BigFan February 14, 2015 11:51 pm

Since it’s late, I was wondering about the mention of Wong’s village. Years ago, I was reading in the newspaper about this guy who had a unique house on the Windward side (Kahaluu, I think) that was built among the trees and had all these stairs coming down if I recall. He made his fortune by buying small homes that were going to be destroyed but fixed them up for rentals on the Windward side. I was trying to remember his name and Wong sounded he could be this guy. Anybody know or remember?

  61. Da Punchbowl Kid February 15, 2015 4:49 am

Story about your power situation, Stephen – yet – in the darkness you shine bright!

As for the runaway rubbish dumpster, try some trash talk – you might be able to intimidate it into submission. With all of your court/field side reporting, you must have heard some great garbage smack over the years. Try it – nothing to lose. We had a couple of internet/power outages here on Puowaena yesterday too!

  62. cappie the dog February 15, 2015 4:55 am

Major props to the machinist who got us out of Kapolei under ten hours. It could have been worse.

  63. Da Punchbowl Kid February 15, 2015 5:01 am

Big Fan – as a Ka’a’awa boy, I remember Wong’s village from the day. My auntie used to live there. The Wong’s have a thriving taro/luau leaves business too.

I had a couple of messages that only had “GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!” get “under moderation”.

Maybe it was rainy on the Windward side and the Moderator thought the message was inappropriate.

For whatever reason, this website seems to lag and miss letters when I type. If the Name or E-mail is missing a letter, it goes to moderation. Happens on multiple computers, so seems to be a feature of the website.
