Mililani receiver to join Warriors
Mililani slotback Kainoa Wilson said he will join the Warriors in 2015.
Wilson suffered a broken collarbone in the 2014 opener against Saint Louis, a game in which he caught two scoring passes. He missed the next six games, but returned to catch seven passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns against Kaiser. He had two scoring catches in the state championship game against Punahou.

That is great news to end the year. Looks like the signing of Milton is becoming contagious for other local recruits. The more they sign, hopefully the more others want to join in and help to rebuild the program.
Are we getting new coaches to join Coach Chow’s staff. We had changes the last three years.

UH needs to recruit Div. 1 players….the QB from Mililani and now this receiver is nowhere the type of talent needed to compete on the Div. 1 level…just because they are local is not an excuse to waste scholarships on these type of players…c’mon , UH…..recruit skill players from the mainland and not these under 6 feet clowns…..oh, well, i can see the criticisms that will be directed to my comments but I will stand my ground and say that we need better recruits esp. skill players from the mainland……….

These are high quality recruits that UH has been able to get. They are some of the best players in the state and the last time I checked, coaches around the country will agree that recruits coming from Hawaii are definitely of Div 1 quality. Also size isn’t everything, ask Chad Owens.

I have seen the name of Campbell DE/DT Tristan Ludiazo mentioned here before – had a chance to see him in action at a Wrestling Tournament at Moanalua HS yesterday.
He’s very tall, well built, and athletic for a heavyweight and basically crushed his competition. Of the couple hundred kids in the tourney, he looked like the guy who could be a Warrior.
He’s likely around 240 -260 pounds right now, but with is frame he could be up near 300 and still be pretty athletic. Don’t know his full story, but I hope UH is looking at him, at least as a preferred walk-on, if not scholie player.

Is Salanoa-Wiley projected as a DT or RB at UH? He played both at Kahuku and while he excelled at DT, he also looks like he could develop into a power back ala Joey Iosefa. Good burst and great feet for such a big man. Wherever he plays at UH, he’s going to be a great one someday.

1. Hopefully walk on.. our standards at skill positions have to be set higher to compete with the better mwc teams… kinda shows lack of recruiting connections by our offensive coaches. Ideally you wanna hit on linemen in Hawaii, and the few exception skilled kids like keala santiago or vae malepeai.

McKenzie Milton is one of the best football players in the state right now. He will be one of the top five, if not the best next year. If you want to recruit well locally, you have to get your share of the top players in the state. UH is wise in getting Timoteo and Milton early on.

I am just wondering if the pundits think recruiting is easy. First you have the returning athletes on scholarship, then the JC transfers, then the local high school standouts, then the transfers from other colleges, then the walk ons. If I forgot anyone please forgive me.

#6 I guess if we recruit only 7 foot tall football players we’ll have a winning season? I think not. Height does not make the difference. It is speed, strength, intelligence, power, and a big local heart!
Whatever happened to Mililani’s all-state receiver Deshawn Duncan Benson? I thought he was good enough to play for a FBS school. If Kainoa Wilson is as good as him, welcome aboard. It’s my fear that Marcus Mariota’s success will encourage even more schools to recruit here. It blew my mind when Illinois State almost recruited Jarin Morikawa. I thought: We’re in trouble if FCS schools from the Midwest is looking at our talent, too.
Anybody catch the Prairie View A&M/Hawaii telecast. Sellito said something that Jim Leahey, I guess, found inane, and sort of lashed out at him, asking him, “Is the NAIA still in existence?” Remember when Sellito said that you can stay in the key for seven seconds if you move around?
16. Skilled position as a whole has been a let down for the past 5 recruiting classes. No pointing out anyone specific but if you just look at what we run out there vs other teams in our conference, it’s not even close. Hawaii WRs, RBs, TEs, aren’t in the same ball park as ones from Fresno, Nevada, SDSU, CSU, Boise.. etc… I would even throw Wyoming in there. After Pilares and Salas, it’s been a drastic decline.

#6. I dunno what tape you’re watching, but Milton and Timoteo both looked incredible this season as juniors. I imagine they would have both been recruited by lots of MWC schools had they not committed to UH so early. I can’t remember back to last year to say how good Kainoa Wilson was, but if memory serves me he was by far the go to receiver at MHS…a team that obviously has a ton of talent. I feel like you’re just basing your statements on past stereotypes as opposed to actually watching the kids play.

Watching Boise State vs Arizona. The BSU QB mentioned as under 6 feet. His 1st half is excellent, 17/18, 1 TD & 1 Int. super accurate in and outside the pocket; very mobile with reported 4.55 40 time.
Last time I looked Wolsey was so called desired QB measurable height. He was horrible in 2014 with I believe under 50% completions, not accurate in or out of the pocket; as many Int’s. As TDs.

The stats indicate that Timoteo was clearly the Trojan’s go-to receiver last season.
Glad that Wilson joining Warriors but JMHO that fellow Trojan receiver Bronson Ramos….who’s bigger and faster…,but might not have Wilson’s hands….is comparable as a SB prospect.

Football is a team sport. It takes all 11 to make the offense go. If the line doesn’t block well enough to give the QB time to find a receiver the pass play is doomed. Putting the onus on the skilled position players is not justifiable. We had some good players at those positions just not a good enough complete team effort, including the play calling, to let them shine.

27. Only issue I really have is our offensive coaches lack connections and experience to go out and get the right type of WRs and RBs we lack at Hawaii. We should be in Texas and California to add the type of athleticism.
In the past, we got solid slot type WRs to walk on and earn a scholarship eventually after hard work. We need guys that can stretch the field. We don’t have a lot of speed on our offense. If I were going to sign an athlete with upside in the 808, it would be Mamiya or Piceno. We need explosive guys.

JMHO that it’s their acceleration after changing directions is really noticeable…..when they gain separation.
From one who has watched Mililani games I really like Wilson. He was key playmaker for the team. We need playmakers.

#6, BSU from the MWC with a whole bunch of 6 foot and under football players just beat favored Arizona who had a lot of 6′ 2″ & over highly recruited athletes.
Key was Boise State played team ball within its schemes on both side of the ball. Excellent coaching for a 1st year head coach. Coaching makes a big difference. They had a new 32 year old OC that did not predominantly do a “run, run, pass, punt” try not to lose mentality like a team located here in Hawaii.
2016!! We need players now!! But do we have enough scholarships?
It was Chow who wants big pro type QB’s–6’4″ 240 lb. guys like Witek and Graham. Chow also said we need to go outside Hawaii for speed and skill players Chow has been focused on the mainland for our corners, for fast (not power) running backs, and for speedy and tall receivers. Our recruiting success is determined on beating the personell our opponents are recruiting (especially with an offense like Chow’s). We know we are coming behind from watching other Mountain West receivers, running backs, and quarterbacks. We will see what we get soon.

Wilson was slightly behind Bronson Ader last year as far as stats are concerned. I probably just thought he was the go to guy last year because that’s how they were hyping him up this year before his injury.
Definitely agree on Mamiya but never got to see Piceno play.

there are others just as good, but do not qualify academically and coaches will seemingly “not” seek their services, but coaches will not make it public knowledge – which is good – however, coaching staff should make every effort to initiate contact with all those who are academically eligible – never know what will take the “bait”
UH vs Michigan in 2016 – now that will be very interesting and perhaps devastating for UH with all those “blue chippers” gravitating to Michigan because of Jim Harbaugh

Ugh, head pounding, dry mouth and semi-nauseous is not a way to start 2015.
Have to make a mental note not to drink excessively to celebrate the new year, however, like many resolutions, that seems to be doomed for failure.
Hope 2015 is filled with brighter days for the UH football program. There are a lot of quality and affordable offensive coordinators in need of employment.
