Game day: Fresno State

Here are some things to ponder:

> If UH beats Fresno State, San Jose State beats San Diego State and UNLV beats Nevada, then the Warriors win the West Division and play in next week’s MWC title game.

> Consider a worst-case scenario in which quarterback Ikaika Woolsey can’t play in the second half. Will UH burn Beau Reilly’s redshirt year by playing him for only a half?

> If Woolsey plays well today, shouldn’t he be considered the No. 1 QB entering spring training? Sure, Max Wittek has been lighting it up in practices as the scout QB. But it would be difficult to deny the importance of a three-game winning streak.

  5. maddog50 November 29, 2014 4:49 am

Just beat dem dawgs!!!!! FSU yields about 230 yds rushing per game, they bunch the line (or the box)…..Joey needs to wear them out and the QB needs to roll and run when possible…..has to make up his mind when he decides to run just get upfield……here’s hoping for the best against these guys……
Go Warriors!!!!!!! Just like Christopher Walken says I need more cowbell….how bout more Poas….

  9. 99club November 29, 2014 7:07 am

We’re still in it! That would be a nice little money line parlay which could pay 78-1. Not that any of us are silly enough to throw money away on parlays. 🙂

    Hawaii +330
    San Jose State +425
    UNLV +250

  10. GIND32 November 29, 2014 7:13 am

    Let’s go bows

Jeremy Higgins will come off the bench and throw 2 TD’s to be todays game hero.

  12. Tak-Tak November 29, 2014 7:44 am

Re:5 & 6… You Right!!! giving Iosepha and Laka laka 30-40 carries too much, give St Jus and JOAS more playing time to keep the Defence guessing. And chances I & L no going get injured was… but this the last game… they should have done this way back….S & J ran good when they had chance….. auwe!!! But I hope the can win today!!!! GoBows!!!!!

    Let’s go BOWS!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  17. Shoko November 29, 2014 8:26 am

Marteze Waller is another impressive running back that needs to be stopped. I would say he’s ranked right up there with Pumphrey and Hart.

  18. tom November 29, 2014 8:36 am

    GOOD MORNING, HAWAII!

    GO BOWS!
    GO WAHINE!

I’m not surprised that Bobby Hauck “Resigned” yesterday.

    BigWave96744 November 21, 2014 at 10:30 am
IMHO, the losing coach of this Saturday’s game will be fired at the end of the season. Aside from the fluke 2013 season, Bobby Hauck has won 24% of his games in 5 years while Norm has won 20% over 3 years. Both have consistently challenged New Mexico as the worst team in the MWC

  21. mytake November 29, 2014 9:00 am

Shouldn’t Woolsey be considered the front runner next season if he wins the game today you ask? Do we all need a lobotomy I ask? If you take away “The Pass”, he didn’t play all that good last week. he still can’t hit a crossing route. The only place I consider him to be next year is on the far end of the bench.

  22. Shoko November 29, 2014 9:17 am

Never know what the future brings.

I recall folks calling for Schroeder’s head after an abysmal first season as the starter. The following season in comes Graham, the anointed one, that was to bring better quarterback play in Chow’s second season but instead gets hurt and what follows is Schroeder is given a golden opportunity and showed considerable improvement.

In my opinion, Chow hasn’t had much luck when it comes to quarterbacks. Will things be different next year?

    Stay tuned…

  23. Tempmanoa November 29, 2014 9:44 am

On close analysis this game is more winnable than some realize. Keys are that we stop their run which has replaced some of Fresno’s passing (partly because they could not protect the passer– Fresno like Hawaii is one of the worst team isn the MWC at protecting the QB). Our run defense with our front 7 is our strength. Stop Fresno’s very capable back and we force Fresno into passing situations and we can then blitz (Fresno has given up a lot of sacks) and rush Yap and Kennedy. On our side we run Joey and set up play action and force them to pack the box to stop Joey and give Woolsey more options.

  24. SteveM November 29, 2014 10:02 am

    Good morning everyone!

Following my new game day superstition of not cheering until game time… hey, I got a two game streak going… 🙂

Watching SJSU and SDSU. SJSU don’t have a chance. Hope that doesn’t hurt the psyche of UH going into today’s game.

  30. Manoa#1 November 29, 2014 11:27 am

14-0 Aztecs Begining of the 2nd.!!

  31. Andrew November 29, 2014 11:31 am

    28.

I would hope the team isn’t paying attention to any of the other games

  32. Andrew November 29, 2014 11:32 am

Would have been nice if SDSU was playing Boise State this weekend and Nevada was playing Utah State

  33. kakaako kid November 29, 2014 11:33 am

If Woolsey gets hurt and a win is within arms reach, you definitely put in Riley. Aren’t we supposed to be chasing championships? Woolsey was #1 then #2 then #1 then #2 and now #1 again. So entering spring he is #1, exiting spring ??? They say you can’t lose your #1 position due to injury, but he seems to have lost his #2 position due to injury, twice. Go, go, geevum!
This senior class have been true Warriors. They have given good effort through very difficult times. I want them to win for themselves. They deserve a couple more good bounces. Go, go, getum!

  34. UHfan808 November 29, 2014 11:40 am

    GOOOOOOOOOO WARRIORS!!!!

Challenge them every second and Scream past those bulldogs!!!

Damn–SC putting it on Notre Dame 28-zip, early 2nd quarter. Brian Kelly is fulfilling the prophesy of another over-hyped Irish squad….

  37. Markazulu November 29, 2014 11:56 am

San Jose st ain’t doing so good already 4 three and outs. In other news appalachin st putting a beating on Idaho.

    Imua Na Koa Anuenue.

  40. Shoko November 29, 2014 12:03 pm

Yep, think SJSU is done. All Warriors can do is try to beat Fresno State for the bragging rights and end the season on a high note.

  41. Boolakanaka November 29, 2014 12:03 pm

    Holomua Linfield!!!

  42. Markazulu November 29, 2014 12:07 pm

Wow San Jose kicker missed a fg from the 4 yard line.

  43. Markazulu November 29, 2014 12:11 pm

If I’m San Jose I’m going on every fourth down in enemy territory.

  44. d1shima November 29, 2014 12:12 pm

  47. Shoko November 29, 2014 12:14 pm

  51. oldtimer808 November 29, 2014 1:31 pm

#11 Tak-Tak just for your information…Lakalaka is out for the season with an injury.

  52. Shoko November 29, 2014 1:57 pm

    Close to game time.

  53. oneseason November 29, 2014 2:11 pm

ESPN 1420 sounds pretty noisy streaming on my computer. The Fresno State feed is very clear (ESPN 940/1430) … http://www.1430espn.com/#

    Nice job D!

  54. Shoko November 29, 2014 2:12 pm

  60. Shoko November 29, 2014 2:22 pm

Oh yeah, forgot they black out the games.

  61. Shoko November 29, 2014 2:23 pm

You can try using Chrome with the Hola extension and disguise your IP address.

  62. Z November 29, 2014 2:25 pm

Looks like our defense is going to get worn down because of our poor offense so far.

  63. azwarrior22 November 29, 2014 2:26 pm

Need QB change for next year. Throws a pick on first play of first offensive series 🙁

  64. Andrew November 29, 2014 2:28 pm

    60

Would be a great idea if I knew how to do that…haha

  65. Shoko November 29, 2014 2:30 pm

    Jeez, no can stop Waller.

  66. azwarrior22 November 29, 2014 2:30 pm

Where does this “Your comment is awaiting moderation” come from?

  67. Tiki808 November 29, 2014 2:32 pm

2 p.m. HT, Woolsey? We’ll he be back next year, despite a 5-8 regular season record if he wins vs. Fresno State Bulldogs? Heismen Trophy? Made it clear, Sean Mannion’s 3,002 total yards prior to last game was a factor Oregon State’s quest in beating Oregon’s projected final appearance in the January 14, 2015 championship game. This is if they, Oregon with Marcus Mariota gets there.

  68. azwarrior22 November 29, 2014 2:33 pm

This MWC stream is very spotty.

  69. Shoko November 29, 2014 2:34 pm

Hmm, Fresno State having something to play for means they will up their game.

  70. Shoko November 29, 2014 2:35 pm

Anyway, if you open up your Chrome browser and click the “free” button on the following link. It should automatically start. All you have to do is change the country where you want the IP address to show up from.

  71. oneseason November 29, 2014 2:35 pm

Hawaii has -1 yard total offense …

  72. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 29, 2014 2:36 pm

    This is sad…

  73. Andrew November 29, 2014 2:37 pm

    66.

    thanks

  74. azwarrior22 November 29, 2014 2:38 pm

    Offense not very disciplined

  75. oneseason November 29, 2014 2:38 pm

#66 … it sounds like HOLA also allows others to access the internet through your computer …

“When a user accesses certain domains that are known to use geo-blocking, the Hola application redirects the request to go through the computers and internet connections of other users in non-blocked areas, thereby circumventing the blocking. This also means that other users might access the internet through one’s own computer, and that part of one’s upload bandwidth might be used for serving cached data to other users.[1][2][3][4] Paying users can choose to redirect all requests to peers but are themselves never used as peers.[5] Free users are also limited in how much they can use Hola per day, whereas paying users are not.[5]”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hola_(VPN)

  76. azwarrior22 November 29, 2014 2:39 pm

Our QB play is horrible !!

  77. al November 29, 2014 2:41 pm

so there will be qb competition this spring.

  78. Markazulu November 29, 2014 2:43 pm

We can’t even get a first down. Fresno looks like the really want it.

  79. ArcumFortis November 29, 2014 2:43 pm

Clearly we need players with long hair!

  80. oneseason November 29, 2014 2:44 pm

Near the end of the first quarter, Hawaii gets it’s first First Down of the game …

  81. Shoko November 29, 2014 2:44 pm

Interesting. I normally use it to watch Netflix from different regions but haven’t had any problems. Google usually is pretty tight when it comes to security and wouldn’t allow apps that would be detrimental.

  82. Shoko November 29, 2014 2:46 pm

King seems to make big plays. Not sure why he doesn’t play a lot.

  83. ArcumFortis November 29, 2014 2:47 pm

I think worst quarter of the year…..but there are three more left

  84. innocent observer November 29, 2014 2:47 pm

looks like a blowout. looks like the players have given up. bye bye chow. please resign like the unlv coach did.

  85. Markazulu November 29, 2014 2:47 pm

Even though we’re losing I learned to never give up on this team till the end.

  86. Shoko November 29, 2014 2:49 pm

This is looking like the SJSU game.

  87. papajoe2 November 29, 2014 2:50 pm

Did anyone else besides me, noticed that on FS’s second TD, looks like the receiver didn’t have control of the ball until he was out of bounds? I thought they review all touchdowns.

  88. MattyBoy November 29, 2014 2:59 pm

    Al,

Do you think it’s a guaranteed lock that Chow is coming back next year? Or do you think it remains to be seen?

  89. Shoko November 29, 2014 3:00 pm

    Terrible oline play.

  90. duffer November 29, 2014 3:00 pm

Hmmmm the game’s on OC 16…for free

  91. oneseason November 29, 2014 3:04 pm

    #83 … Thank you!

  92. Andrew November 29, 2014 3:05 pm

    81.

I think I big factor that Jay is looking at is the amount of season ticket holders that have not renewed their tickets this year and will not renew their tickets next season.

  93. duffer November 29, 2014 3:08 pm

Hmmm…now it’s back to the replay of WBB

  94. Markazulu November 29, 2014 3:09 pm

Every drive starts with false start. Damn

  95. oneseason November 29, 2014 3:09 pm

    #83 … that didn’t last long 🙂

  96. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 3:15 pm

    are we winning yet ???

  97. oneseason November 29, 2014 3:16 pm

#81 … There is no “official” financial reason to replace a head coach as long as the athletic director continues to over-estimate ticket sales and includes revenue from non-existent bowl games.

  98. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 3:21 pm

    # 90…is that called cheating..or just lying..or a fairy tale…

podogee proverb…half a truth is a whole lie….especially about money..

  99. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 29, 2014 3:21 pm

Sorry but this game is over

  100. Andrew November 29, 2014 3:23 pm

This is embarrassing. I have a feeling Fresno doesn’t really see Hawaii as a rival anymore. Its been so one sided lately.

  101. Markazulu November 29, 2014 3:23 pm

    Hawaii has 58 yards offensively

  102. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 3:25 pm

Markazulu…is ok to give up…it is a sign of maturity…unless of course n have A ONW SECOND LEFT…HE HE HE

  103. Markazulu November 29, 2014 3:26 pm

They are playing who let the dogs out lol

  104. Shoko November 29, 2014 3:28 pm

    70 yards of total offense.

  105. Old Diver November 29, 2014 3:30 pm

Record wise Fresno State is mediocre. Norm Chow has the team nowhere near medicore.

  106. Shoko November 29, 2014 3:33 pm

You know your division is mediocre when you send your 6-6 team to the conference championship.

  107. Old Diver November 29, 2014 3:34 pm

Fresno State is stacking the box in response to UH’s offense stacking the box. This isn’t rocket science unless you are Norm Chow.

  108. iwonderwhytheyhateme November 29, 2014 3:34 pm

We would be throwing parties and celebration for dayssssss if we were mediocre.

  109. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 3:36 pm

just a small observation….seems like our team is never ‘prepared’ mentally or strategiclly for a game.. after we played them 3 PAC- 12 teams…why is that ?

  110. Tempmanoa November 29, 2014 3:39 pm

Hawaii not focused and not into the game. Not playing well at all. Embarrassing game. Fresno is not that good, but they have a championship to play for. We should be playing for pride. Might as well start building for next year bring in some of the second string. Still would not burn any player’s red shirt year though– so Woolsey stays. Just run more Joey wildcat.

  111. WF November 29, 2014 3:39 pm

UH needs a new head coach!!

  112. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 3:45 pm

if you our coach….what do you tell ur team at half time ?

  113. Old Diver November 29, 2014 3:46 pm

    105

Let’s start the second half like the score is 0-0. Same old speech we have heard before from Norm Chow.

  114. Shoko November 29, 2014 3:47 pm

If you look at the preseason polls, Fresno State was supposed to take the division.

    2014 Preseason Football poll:
    1. Fresno State (15) 174
    2. San Diego State (15) 172
    3. Nevada (3) 130
    4. UNLV 95
    5. San José State 87
    6. Hawai‘i 35

  115. Z November 29, 2014 3:48 pm

No deception in what UH is trying to do. Same o. I expect to see the same in the second half.

  116. Andrew November 29, 2014 3:48 pm

I thought if UH won this game that Chow would for sure keep his job, but getting obliterated in this game makes it an interesting dilemma for Ben Jay.

  117. UHfan808 November 29, 2014 3:50 pm

    I BELIEEEEEEEEEEEVE!!!

    GOOOOOOO WARRIORS!!!

I KNOW THIS TEAM *CAN* GET IT DONE! 😀

    😀

  118. Rodney November 29, 2014 3:53 pm

Agree need new coach and AD
Norm chow should be asked to be AD
and then use his experience and hire
a football coach to replace himself!!

  119. Willie November 29, 2014 3:54 pm

Unless a miracle turn around happens in the 2nd half the current Warrior QB is not going to be #1 into the Spring. The guy has interceptions that exceed touchdowns and as said unless a miracle comes to be, the negative ratio will remain. But knowing Chow Von Happen, nothing is going to change, same old & same old will prevail.

Got to count your blessing that Wittek stays and that Zwalen lends hope for next season.

  120. 4-Prong November 29, 2014 3:55 pm

lol what a joke of a football team. fans rush the field against UNLV, as if beating them was the equivalent of winning the sugar bowl. Goes to fresno and gets demolished. This is a terrible football team that has shown basically no meaningful progression in three years. If ben jay keeps chow, he’s an even bigger idiot than most people think he is.

  121. Andrew November 29, 2014 3:56 pm

    112.

Wittek isn’t going anywhere. He only has one year of eligibility left.

  122. azwarrior22 November 29, 2014 3:57 pm

We need change after this game…change HC, change QB, change offense. Coaching and offense is pathetic.

  123. 4-Prong November 29, 2014 3:58 pm

UH would be pretty competitive in the OIA red division though. they’d at least place second to mililani.

  124. azwarrior22 November 29, 2014 4:01 pm

I thought there was a chance that Higgins would be back…if so, put him in.

  125. 4-Prong November 29, 2014 4:02 pm

tell me again why people think woolsey should be the #1 qb coming into spring and next season?

  126. Andrew November 29, 2014 4:03 pm

    117

Bobby mentioned that Higgins wasn’t even listed on the lineup. That is odd

  127. azwarrior22 November 29, 2014 4:03 pm

Very undisciplined…it all rises to the top with the HC.

  128. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 4:04 pm

    stats… first downs…..us 7……them 18
    3rd dwn conversion us 1-7 them 7-11
total yds us 117 them 259

but we winning on the penalties… us…51..them 47 he he he

  129. Andrew November 29, 2014 4:04 pm

    112.

Unfortunately though I think that if Chow is let go, Zwahlen will probably transfer.

  130. 4-Prong November 29, 2014 4:07 pm

if zwahlen transfers then it is what it is. players transfer all the time. maybe the new coach would want to bring in his own recruits anyway while wittek plays his senior season.

  131. Old Diver November 29, 2014 4:07 pm

No single player is worth keeping Chow over.

  132. azwarrior22 November 29, 2014 4:07 pm

No one should be #1 going into Spring, but I would think that Wittek might have the edge and can win it outright in the Spring. IW has had a whole season to get it done, but doesn’t perform well under the lights. Put your best QB on the field and it’s not IW.

  133. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 4:07 pm

just pray no one gets seriously hurt out there.. n ready for spring.. n hopefully reload….n use a better ‘powder’ in their muskets….

  134. Shoko November 29, 2014 4:10 pm

Well, think folks might want to prepare of another year of Chow. I don’t get the feeling BJ is ready to cut the umbilical cord just yet.

  135. 4-Prong November 29, 2014 4:10 pm

lol norm chow. down 28 points, still rams the ball up the middle. he truly is an offensive genius.

  136. azwarrior22 November 29, 2014 4:12 pm

The sad thing is that most fans have become apathetic with the current regime and all the losing over the past 3 years. We need change now to restore the faithful. Only the most diehard fans continue to stomach this pain.

  137. 4-Prong November 29, 2014 4:14 pm

probably only that d1shima guy will be able to stomach it. Pomai: 51-7 UH!

  138. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 4:18 pm

glad to see them come alive a bit here second half…

  139. Shoko November 29, 2014 4:19 pm

    Wow.

  140. Andrew November 29, 2014 4:21 pm

    123. 124.

I was just stating what would probably happen since the post I was replying to was mentioning that he hopes Zwahlen would be the guy eventually. I also think no one player should be the reason to keep a coach or not.

  141. 4-Prong November 29, 2014 4:25 pm

in the 21st century, when your football team is down 28-0, you probably would want to throw the ball. UH is stuck playing cave man football. does anyone really think that UH can come back and win this game by just plowing joey iosefa up the middle for the entire fourth quarter? i understand that ikaika woolsey is an extremely terrible quarterback, but does anybody else think that chow still needs to throw the ball to at least make like he’s still trying to win this game?

  142. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 4:26 pm

we down 28 to zero..n we still run the ball 4 times in a row…wass up with that ?

  143. Inyoface November 29, 2014 4:26 pm

I think that’ll be the last we’ll see Woosley play but who knows with Chow.

  144. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 4:28 pm

4-prong…that is to logical….shame on you…he he he

  145. Willie November 29, 2014 4:28 pm

Andrew, thanks for the Wittek info.

So IW has what 10 TD tosses and 12 to the other jerseys? Unacceptable for most, but OK for Chow?

  146. 4-Prong November 29, 2014 4:30 pm

#135: to me that implies that for all of chow’s whole “we’re gonna chase championships” thing, what chow is really doing is playing for a close loss versus playing to win.

  147. Shoko November 29, 2014 4:31 pm

No goose egg with Warrior TD.

  148. Rodney November 29, 2014 4:33 pm

Whitek will probably transfer to a lower
    Level division team.Like Ravens Qb

  149. Shoko November 29, 2014 4:47 pm

Auburn going hand Bama their second loss?

  150. Willie November 29, 2014 4:47 pm

Come on IW, TD passes now even with Int’s, keep going and get 2 more TD’s to tie the game!

  151. Andrew November 29, 2014 4:51 pm

I don’t know what Lance Williams was thinking. That was stupid. They would have had the ball back

  152. Shoko November 29, 2014 5:05 pm

    Game is getting interesting.

  153. Andrew November 29, 2014 5:06 pm

    145.

    was*

  154. Shoko November 29, 2014 5:06 pm

    Dang…typical.

  155. Shoko November 29, 2014 5:10 pm

    Not ovah.

  156. Andrew November 29, 2014 5:10 pm

haha I think that referee is going to get shot if a miracle happens and UH wins

  157. Willie November 29, 2014 5:11 pm

Wow, it took falling way behind until the professed offensive genius actually started to throw the ball with time ticking away. How come this could not have happened as the primary offensive thought?

Same ending though! What could have been, maybe.

  158. 4-Prong November 29, 2014 5:12 pm

lol the refs jobbing fresno state.

  159. Marleysdad November 29, 2014 5:13 pm

    Oh Em Gee!!!

    Robert K cracks me up.

  160. Z November 29, 2014 5:13 pm

Don’t kick it out og bounds.

  161. Shoko November 29, 2014 5:16 pm

    Well, now its over.

  162. papajoe2 November 29, 2014 5:17 pm

Should have put more players on the kicking side. Front guys sprint to block the blockers and back line sprint to the ball on the onside kick. But kick wasn’t that good anyway.

  163. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 5:18 pm

tough trip home for the ‘boys’….
losing season again 4 the seniors…

but again…prefaced by our illustrious AD
HIS ‘DOOM N GLOOM’ story of trying to find ‘kala’ to feed the team n stipens 4 next year,,, have to say…he sure has perfect AND IMPECCABLE timing with his remarks to media…

    what a guy…sheesh…
like a boxer is before a fight…wife ask for divorce cuz she is seeing the referee of his fight 2 day……..

  164. Buffoman November 29, 2014 5:19 pm

That penalty hurt us. Don’t know if it would have changed the outcome but that cost us about two and a half minutes.

Our fault for getting started so slowly. Next year.

  165. Slugger November 29, 2014 5:21 pm

Kekaula, Bakersfield is the “armpit of America”. Fresno is ….

Good comeback, Warriors! We gettum next season.

To all of the Seniors, mahalo for being a Warrior & good luck after graduation!

  166. makiki November 29, 2014 5:24 pm

I truly feel sorry for the fans that have to watch the games on OC16 Sports. Listening to the broadcast over MWC stream is painful with these announcers.

  167. 99club November 29, 2014 5:26 pm

Mahalo, Warriors, for all your hard work this season. We all saw that you never quit, never gave up!

  168. Shoko November 29, 2014 5:33 pm

Warriors winning four games was pretty close to what most folks predicted. They finished 4th in the West division where most prognosticators predicted they would finish last in the preseason. Could have been much worst record-wise when you think about it.

  169. 4-Prong November 29, 2014 5:39 pm

i’m not really looking at what they placed in conference, because the west division of the mountain west is absolute crap.

is the product on the field in chow’s third year (the year with all of his recruits) significantly better than it was his first year? is he even close to having a winning season even with an extremely soft schedule this year?

    nope.

if iosefa had one more year with the program, try running iosefa 80 times up the middle against wisconsin and ohio state and see what happens.

overall disappointing and uninteresting season. highlight of the season was a ridiculously entertaining game against a 2-10 UNLV team where fans rushed the field like UH just won the sugar bowl. here’s to max wittek hopefully turning into quarterback jesus next year and making UH at least a competent football team.

  170. UHfan808 November 29, 2014 5:43 pm

Yeehaw – I knew our Warriors could do it! Their moxy sure showed ’em! What a come back to so very extremely close to almost!

So I’m sad yet I’m happy but then sad… 🙁

Anywayz, I’m choosing to stay with the positives 😉

Thank you for the excitement, Warriors! Good going, good job, and thank you for never giving up! 😀

  171. oneseason November 29, 2014 5:47 pm

    3 years: 4 conference wins & 20 conference losses

  172. Shoko November 29, 2014 5:51 pm

    163. Well, don’t know what to tell you. If it bothers you that much, and it seems it does, then all I can say is stop following Warrior football until there is a coaching change. As I opined, it doesn’t sound like BJ is considering on making that decision just yet. For your sake and your health (lol), I hope he makes that decision sooner than later.

  173. 4-Prong November 29, 2014 5:56 pm

shoko: what makes you think i’m having some kind of health issue or personal distress over UH’s terrible football team (lol)?

but yeah, hopefully ben jay makes a decision sooner rather than later.

  174. R W Smoke November 29, 2014 5:59 pm

Don’t forget, 2 of Chow’s 8 wins have come against FCS teams (Lamar and N. Iowa) and 1 win came against S. Alabama who were in their first year in D1. So, against true D1 competition, Chow is really 6-28. How is there even a question of if he should be back?

  175. ArcumFortis November 29, 2014 5:59 pm

Well a difficult season and the script played true to the end. Our offense starts in the most predictable, ineffective (and painfully boring) way. When we get desperate we finally start to open it up and we produce. Norm is stuck in this pattern and I don’t see it changing. My bet is that Norm is back next year (unless there is a major effort on behalf of monied boosters willing to ante up). So I just hope for the hiring of an good offensive coordinator who will take charge and call the plays.

On a positive note one has to give credit to this team for never quitting. Kevin Clune’s defence looked awful in the first half but did their job well in the second half. Clune seems able to adjust effectively and has done so in many of the games this year. I think his defence will be ok and hopefully even better with a year under his belt and the opportunity to recruit his own players.

So I guess we have to sell our potential recruits on the chance to play early in their college careers. The year started with a lot of promise with the UW game. I got that sinking “here we go again” feeling in the NIU game and so it was. But eternally optimistic I think we have a chance to be a good team next year. Need to majorly recruit D linemen (JC’s needed) but lots of good players coming back. I hope that the “fire Norm” or “keep Norm” announcement is a quick one so we can get on with it in either case. I am resigned to him staying another year but who knows. I can live with it for another year but I can understand how a lot of others will not be able to. Perhaps when we beat Ohio State it will generate some interest in the team (lol).

  176. Z November 29, 2014 6:13 pm

Recruit, recruit, recruit. We got a lot of holes to fill. We need more depth.

  177. Trunks420 November 29, 2014 6:30 pm

Great day to be a Bulldog.

Enjoying a double double animal style and animal style Fries from In & Out

  178. Shoko November 29, 2014 6:36 pm

Guess that’s why Alabama is number one. Thought there was a chance of the repeat of last year’s game against Auburn.

  179. inyoface November 29, 2014 6:41 pm

At least it was another moral victory. Auuryte

  180. champ November 29, 2014 7:02 pm

UH gets down early and adjusts too late. Don’t u think that this shows lack of experience up and down the entire coaching staff. I mean, except for one or two former players who incidentally don’t actually have glowing coaching credentials, who are these people and what kind of credentials do they have? NC was a career OC!! He had no experience, only w/ the O and a little antiquated I might add. Also, to the caller that talked with Gary Dickman and said we should support the team cause its hard to win at Hawaii, I take offense to that idiotic mentality. Tell me one team that gets 100% support with a 3-10, 1-11 and 4-9 record. I will bet a house on Hawaii Loa Ridge and then some that they get jack.

  181. lawaia November 29, 2014 7:07 pm

Mahalo to Coach Chow, staff, and players for supporting each other and representing the University of Hawaii. (Haaheo) Imua Na Koa Anueanue.

  182. lawaia November 29, 2014 7:09 pm

    Should say Anuenue.

  183. HawaiiMongoose November 29, 2014 8:04 pm

UH has been playing football for over 100 years. The program’s all-time historical winning percentage prior to the beginning of Chow’s tenure was about 57%. Anyone who thinks Chow should be given some kind of pass because “winning is hard at Hawaii” doesn’t know much about UH football. The fans have every right to expect a winner because that’s our tradition. Eight wins in three seasons is COMPLETELY unacceptable. Ben Jay needs to bring the Chow era to an end NOW or he can expect football season ticket sales to plummet by another 5,000 and the athletic budget deficit to balloon to levels never before seen.

  184. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 8:20 pm

well bj has a ‘track record’ at a baseball team when he was there.. n they folded..don’t know if was cuz of his tenure there or not.. but when he was there the attendance plummeted so guess he ‘helped’ put them out of existence.. don’t know the real story that place…

  185. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 8:22 pm

i know there is sum dude on here…that is affiliated with the lady baseball booster club.. wonder who he is ?…can ne one help ?

  186. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 8:27 pm

maybe time to focus on sum ladies sports…seems like they all have very good coaches.. n do UH proud… coolen..shoji..n beeman..

  187. Trunks420 November 29, 2014 8:39 pm

Fresno at Boise next week for MW Championship.
    #BeatBoise

  188. Tempmanoa November 29, 2014 8:47 pm

Chow’s record is terrible and it puts him at the bottom of the conference in winning percentage. It is hard to imagine any coach losing as many games in three seasons as Chow has– 29 losses out of 37 games played. Today we got beat by a coach who was hired when Chow was hired– in fact, every Mountain West coach hired when Chow was hired has beaten us– Fresno, Colorado State, and lowly New Mexico. Chow had more wins this season than last, but looking at the product on the field, and at stats which have us at or near the bottom in almost every important category– the players put out the effort, but they do not play well because they are not coached in the fundamentals and given a scheme that lets them play well– so we lose.

  189. 808WarriorFan November 29, 2014 9:05 pm

Speaking for myself, I still feel that Norm needs to be replaced. Unfortunately that does not look like it’s going to happen…so the next thing is the Assistant Coaches…Jordan Wynn & Luke Matthews are good, young guys …but… I really wonder how much “latitude” Wynn has in his crafting of the game plan and play calling. I really suspect Norm has his “thumb” on this. The way the receivers dropped balls this year was “unacceptable”. Marcus Kemp’ performance in the last few games is one bright spot. If Norm stays we need a solid OC what has the ability to call the game plan and I’m not sure if Norm will give that up. As far as the QB situation for ’15, hopefully Norm will open it up and give the starters job to the best guy…Wittek, Reilly, Ikaika, or Prater. Zwalein is coming in but still has to learn the system as a true Freshman. The other 4 have been around this season so turn ’em loose and come out with the best. If the OL can’t block then Wittek could be a “sitting duck”. Ikaika isn’t the swiftest, & we haven’t seen Reilly or Prater.

Defensively we still have trouble make a tackle on the initial contact. What was looking out to be a bright spot at the beginning of the season turned out to be a major problem. In the UNLV game, the TD in which the went ahead, Beau Yap has his head turned and is talking to the backfield. The UNLV QB see this, calls the snap, and throws a TD…prior to that we get called for 12 guys on the field for defense…seems like a lot of confusion on the sidelines which is affecting the 11 guys on the field. Luckily we won this one. I’m starting to doubt Kevin Clune…

  190. d1shima November 29, 2014 9:33 pm

    Mahalo Warriors!

    304 days until kickoff.

(just to make sure I get ’em in b4-Prong)

    Pomai,

    56 – 14 d1shima

    😉

  191. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 9:53 pm

well ST surely can check if his family is her or not..or just ask..one of the call in shows there…

  192. kruzen November 29, 2014 10:14 pm

Mahalo to the Warriors, and aloha and good luck to the seniors.

  193. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 10:33 pm

yea must be hard flight home for the seniors…so much time to reflect..on the season…and decisions to make…hope for the most part they all find good work here..

  194. st. anthony trojan November 29, 2014 10:37 pm

808 coach norm chow was a winner there in 2002…

  195. Markazulu November 29, 2014 11:18 pm

I think hawaii football under chow has been inconsistent an predictable. The only positive I’ve goten is that never say die attitude usually in the past when down 21-0 scores got more lopsided. Here’s to next season hoping for success.

  196. Markazulu November 29, 2014 11:23 pm

I also hope chow doesn’t pencil in max wittek as the starter already at qb. Let the best man win. I just hope ikaika doesn’t give up and keeps improving to maybe he’ll reach his potential like Schroeder did.
